Meghan Markle’s longtime friend, Janina Gavankar, was reportedly in attendance at the live taping of Chris Rock’s new Netflix special, Selective Outrage, over the weekend. While on stage, Rock poked fun at the Duchess of Sussex and her relationship with the royal family. Gavankar was also with Dave Chapelle backstage in the VIP Green Room. “Janina looked to be enjoying the show very much. She was standing up by the TV screens and laughing,” one witness told Page Six.
During his routine, Rock called back to Markle and Prince Harry’s 2021 Oprah Winfrey interview in which they accused the royal family of racism. “She’s complaining, I’m like, ‘What the fuck is she talking about? They’re so racist, they wanted to know how brown the baby was going to be,’” he said. “I’m like, ‘That’s not racist,’ cause’ even black people want to know how brown the baby gon’ be. Shit. We check behind them ears.”

“[She was] going on Oprah [and] saying, ‘I had no idea how racist they were.’ That’s the royal family, you didn’t Google those motherfuckers? They’re the original racists. They invented colonialism,” he continued on stage. “They invested in slavery like it was ‘Shark Tank.’” From there, Rock joked: “I know her dilemma: Black girl trying to be accepted by her white in-laws. Oh, it’s hard. It’s so hard, it’s very hard – but it ain’t as hard as a white girl trying to be accepted by her black in-laws. Now that shit is really hard!”
Elsewhere in the Netflix special, Chris Rock joked about being slapped by Will Smith at the Oscars. In doing so, he made reference to Jada Pinkett Smith’s infamous “entanglement” cheating scandal involving August Alsina. Rock made fun of the fact that the couple addressed the scandal during an episode of Jada’s Red Table Talk show. Rock also joked about getting his daughter, Lola, expelled from school after a trip to Portugal during which she was caught drinking.
