Who would have thunk it. Tim Walz is now the vice-presidential pick for Vice President Kamala Harris. Sounds different. Feels unconventional but these are the times we are in and unconventional wisdom is the way to go, sometimes. That feels on par with the decision to tap Governor Tim Walz to join VP Kamala Harris’ ticket.
The democratic campaign which is running at warp speed opted for the “midwestern nice” appeal to bolster her 2024 presidential run and with it a showdown with Trump and Vance.
If you are not aware as many American may not be, Governor is known as a former teacher, football coach, and Army National Guard soldier, 24 years to the latter btw.
Walz embodies “meat-and-potatoes middle America.” He’s a kitchen table dad. Kind of makes sense to combat the coastal elite liberal that some give VP Harris.
His super approachable demeanor and ability to go after Donald Trump without seeming overly aggressive have earned him national attention. So he’s not that unknown the right, make him out to be.
ICYMI, Walz’s term “weird” for Trump and his running mate, JD Vance, quickly became a Democratic slogan and a staple in Harris’s campaign speeches. Yes, Walz started that in its viral manner it lives today across the social spheres of the interwebs, ha!
See, some pundits believe this approach may resonate better with undecided voters than the previous administration’s “threat to democracy” rhetoric.
So his vibe is in contrast to what some call a more polished contender like Pennsylvania Governor Josh Shapiro and Arizona Senator Mark Kelly. Here is where Walz’s everyman persona stands out.
As for his background and record, Walz’s experience winning a Republican-held House seat in 2006 demonstrated his ability to attract rural and Republican voters. Check this out, he has defended progressive legislation in a way that appeals to moderates and independents.
Influential Democratic party leader Nancy Pelosi, played a key role in encouraging Joe Biden to step aside for Harris, and went on to praise Walz as “wonderful.” And his 2006 victory was pivotal in helping Democrats regain the House majority for the first time in 12 years under Pelosi’s leadership.
Here come the Republicans. They are painting a different picture. You know the end of the world, doom and gloom picture.
The Trump campaign labels Walz a “dangerously liberal extremist.” How surprising. His sycophant JD Vance claims the choice shows Harris’s willingness to “bend the knee to the most radical elements of her party.” Ha, bend the knee. Somebody watches too much Game of Thrones or better yet, House of the Dragon. And coming from a guy who once called Trump a Nazi, he should chill on the bend the knee talk. Vance regurgitates Republican propaganda that Walz’s policies would result in “HELL ON EARTH” and open borders to criminals. Oh…kay. Sure.
Anyways, here’s what Walz’s selection really reflects about Harris’s strategy. It shows she is committed to appeal to middle America with a relatable, NORMAL and experienced candidate with governing experience who can attract a broad, more middle of the road voter base. That part.
