VP Harris was at a fundraiser hosted by Rob and Michele Reiner, where she addressed the recent debate performance of President Joe Biden. She acknowledged it wasn’t Biden’s “finest” moment but emphasized the significant contrast he presents against Donald Trump. At least she’s not shying away from Biden’s low moment this week.

Harris called Trump a “threat to democracy,” and make no mistake, he is, while accusing him of admiring dictators and planning to weaponize the Justice Department against opponents. She reassured attendees about the election’s importance, stating, “None of that changed because of a day in June.”

ICYMI, despite the debate fallout, with Biden struggling to complete sentences and missing chances to challenge Trump’s falsehoods, Harris aimed to soothe concerns. Earlier, The New Yorker editor David Remnick and other pundits called for Biden to step aside, reflecting broader media concerns.

Here’s what was said at the fundraiser, where a donor mentioned ongoing discussions about Biden stepping down, expressing worry that it might discourage voter turnout. Yet, the donor added, “after the debate there was 24 hours of panic and everyone is rebounding quickly.”

But get this, campaign memos from top officials, including one from Southern California, asserted that voters’ opinions remained largely unchanged post-debate.

President Biden, meanwhile, was out fundraising on the East Coast, and dodging questions about dropping out. At an event at Barry and Lizanne Rosenstein’s East Hampton home, Biden addressed The New York Times editorial urging him to exit the race. “I understand the concern about the debate – I get it,” he said. “I didn’t have a great night.”

However, Biden did note, “Voters had a different reaction. Since the debate, the polls show a little movement, moved us up actually.” He claimed they converted more undecided voters than Trump, highlighting Trump’s 28 lies during the debate and reminding people of the negative aspects of Trump’s presidency.

At the Harris event, attendees likened it to “group therapy” but felt a strong need to move forward and ensure Trump is not re-elected. One attendee described Harris’ speech as “invigorating.”
