Doja Cat & Young Rog Lead This Week’s “R&B Season” Playlist

Doja Cat is truly a force to be reckoned with. She raps, she sings, and her incredibly unique personality bleeds into her artwork effortlessly. On Friday, she slid through with her latest body of work, Planet Her, the singer’s third studio album. The fourteen-track project boasts appearances from The Weeknd, Young Thug, and more. So, it only made sense that her latest project would hold dominance on our weekly R&B playlist. “You Right” ft. The Weeknd and “Love To Dream” earned positions on this week’s edition of our R&B Season update.

Young Rog is a bubbling name right now but his latest project, Boy Next Door will rightfully help propel his name across the music industry. The impressive 10-track project boasts features from Freddie Gibbs and 6lack, though some of his brightest moments are on the solo cuts. This week, we had to add “The Fall” and “Want To” to our playlist.

In addition to new music from Doja Cat and Young Rog, our R&B season playlist also boasts appearances from Jazmine Sullivan, Njomza & Ari Lennox, Snoh Aalegra, and Ruth B.

Nicki Minaj Shuts Down Rumors Of Asian Doll Collab

Rumors have been circulating online over the past couple of months that Nicki Minaj and rapper Asian Doll have a song together in the stash waiting to come out. The rumor first came about back in April when Asian Doll said she asked Nicki to jump on her record and the Queen Barb said she would when the timing was right.

Well fast forward to Saturday night’s IG live, in which Nicki premiered unreleased music, fans were in the comments asking Nicki to “play you and Asian.” After a post from TheNeighborhoodTalk, showing the comment about the possible collab, Nicki quickly shut that idea down, and confirmed there is no song between her and Asian Doll.

“We don’t have a song together,” Nicki commented under the post (see below).

In other news, Nicki recently teamed up with Polo G for a new record called “For The Love Of New York,” as well as her 2009 mixtape Beam Up Scotty mixtape which she re-released few weeks ago with 3 new songs, including “Seeing Green” with Drake and Wayne. Stream that right here if you haven’t done so already and keep you eyes peeled for more Nicki on the way.

Would you want to hear a song between Nicki and Asian Doll in the future?

Paul George Says He Doesn’t Want Kawhi Leonard To Rush Back For Game 5

The Los Angeles Clippers are down 3-1 against the Phoenix Suns. Coach Tyronn Lue has been in this position before, when his Clevland Cavaliers were down 3-1 in the Finals against the Golden State Warriors in 2016. LeBron James and Kyrie Irving were able to bring the series back and win. Chris Paul, who plays on the Clippers, also squandered a 3-1 lead over the Houston Rockets when he was a part of the Clippers. The Suns were able to take advantage of the Lakers, Nuggets, and now the Clippers due to injuries on each of those teams. Other than a short shoulder contusion injury to Paul (plus a Covid scare) and a scary but brief nose injury to Booker, the Suns have been healthy. That has been their greatest advantage.

Kawhi is missing due to a sprained knee, although rumors claim it may be more serious than that. Paul George spoke about Kawhi’s health after the Game 4 loss. “I can’t speak for him, to the health of Kawhi,” George stated. “If he’s not 100, we don’t want him out there. I mean, that’s just as a brother, as a teammate. His health long term is more important than what’s going on now. I can’t speak on the extent of his injury or, you know, what he [can] and cannot give us. Like I’ve been saying, his health is just more important than anything else.”

The Suns play the Clippers back in Arizona on Monday.

Manny Pacquiao Claps Back At Floyd Mayweather Regarding His Choice Of Opponents

Floyd Mayweather and Manny Pacquiao may never be friends. The former beat the latter back in 2015, after years of planning. After the fight, the tension continued. Recently, Mayweather took a petty shot at Pacquiao in an interview. “Pacquiao at his age [42], which is sad, has to fight. I’m financially set, and I want to make everybody hear this,” he gloated.

“You’re going to hear a lot of people say ‘Floyd needed to do this,’ no, I’m well off,” he continued. “Every property that I have is paid for, my jet is paid for, all my cars are paid for, I own billion-dollar buildings, I own so much property, I’ve steadily invested in many different things. I’m invested in the tech world, I’ve made a lot of smart investments.”

Pacquiao took offense to the statement and clapped back at Mayweather. “I’m not like some who are in it just for money,” he declared. “Some challenge non-boxers to get paid. I want the best. If I’m fighting for money, I’d have picked some scrub. This is a real fight.” Pacquiao is clearly referring to the recent Mayweather / Logan Paul fight. Pacquiao gets back into the ring for the first time in two years when he takes on Errol Spence Jr. next month.

Cautious Clay Croons His Way Through “Deadpan Love”

Cautious Clay dropped off his highly anticipated debut album Deadpan Love this week.  “Karma & Friends,” “Agreeable,” “Roots,” and “Dying in the Subtlety,” are all single that Cautious Clay released leading up to the release of the project. The album runs for 14 tracks and features one guest appearance from Saba.

Cautious Clay sits snuggly into the area of Pop, although his tracks have hints of gospel, R&B, and soul in them. Deadpan Love plays like an extended love letter, and the production mixes futuristic vibes with grounded instrumentation.

“It was originally called Karma and Friends, actually,” said Cautious Clay of the album. “But I changed it to Deadpan Love because it was more holistic in how I operate as a person in my life, which is that I feel like I have an external witty side that I use as a protection mechanism for my soul, which I feel like is very earnest and empathetic and caring. So, it’s like the two sides of the same coin. Deadpan Love is how I define my identity and how it manifests.” Stream the new album and let us know what you think.

Tom Brady On NFL Future: “It’s Coming To An End”

Tom Brady may still be winning Super Bowl rings at the age of 43, but it sounds like his playing days are finally coming to an end. During this week’s episode of HBO’s The Shop, Brady opened up about his later years of his career and revealed that his time is finally “coming to an end.”

“Not forever and ever and ever. We’re coming to the end. It’s coming to the end,” Brady said on HBO’s The Shop.

Brady, who is entering his 22nd season in the NFL, signed a two-year deal with the Bucs last offseason, and has already signed an extension that should keep him in Tampa Bay for at least a couple more seasons. Tom has always said he wanted to play until he was 45-years-old and that maybe the magic number for him following next season.

Elsewhere during the episode of The Shop, Brady recalled a time during free agency when another team wanted their current QB over him, and he took that personally. “Looking back, I’m thinking ‘There’s no fuc-ing way I would’ve gone to that team. They said they didn’t want me! I know what that means! I know what that feels like! And I’m going to f— you up because of that.”

Meek Mill Comments On Nicki Minaj’s Remix Of Soulja Boy’s “She Make It Clap”

Last night was an epic battle of the mid-2000s with Soulja Boy and Bow Wow’s Verzuz battle. The stars came out, virtually, of course, though there were a few surprise guests that appeared. What was maybe one of the most surprising moments of the night was when Soulja Boy debuted the official remix of his latest hit record, “She Make It Clap.” As he’s been riding the hype of the single, the rapper revealed that Nicki Minaj dropped a few on the track.

As fans have been hoping that a release date for the single arrives soon, it seems that one person, in particular, was enjoying the remix: Meek Mill. Despite his storied romantic history with the Young Money star, he publicly showed his approval for the record, commenting on a slew o dancing emojis. Now, it’s unclear if he’s trolling or genuinely into her verse, but this is yet another display of what the Barbz have been describing as obsessive behavior.

Nicki has not responded to Meek’s apparent co-sign of her verse. However, she did slide down memory lane to reflect on some fond memories she shared with Soulja Boy over the years. A fan tweeted a video of Nicki and Soulja Boy during an episode of Nicki Minaj TV where Soulja, even then, was letting his fellow peers know that he was the first to own an exclusive pair of Louis Vuitton sunglasses. Nicki later reposted a hilarious video where Soulja Boy was teaching her how to use U-Stream.

“don’t remember this one @ ALL. he said i ain’t in the race for no chains,” she said.

We recently chopped it up with Soulja Boy who explained that it has always been love between the two since the jump. “When I met Nicki, it was a long time ago. I been rocking with Nicki since the start. Any time she asked for a beat, she got it. Anytime we were on tour, it’s always support. Much love to Nicki Minaj since day one,” he said.

Who won last night’s Verzuz battle? Let us know in the comment section.

“Fast 9” Opens To Massive $70M Pandemic-Era Record Domestically

Fast and the Furious just keeps on running. The ninth installment of the series (if you include the Hobbs & Shaw spin-off, it would be the tenth) finally hit theaters after a very long delay. The pandemic forced the film back over a year, making it four years since fans got to see Dominic Toretto and his crew.

F9 opened to a monstrous $70 million debut at the weekend box office. It set a new pandemic-era record for North America and is the biggest domestic opening since Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker back in December 2019. globally, F9 has brought in $400 million. F9 was released early in several countries due to less restrictive pandemic regulations. Last week, the Fast series became the fifth-biggest franchise in the world with $6.2 billion. That puts them just above the X-Men franchise.

The film’s diverse cast includes Vin Diesel, Tyrese Gibson, Michelle Rodriguez, Chris Ludacris Bridges, Nathalie Emmanuel, Kurt Russell and Charlize Theron. Cardi B also debuts as a new character while Ozuna makes a cameo. The film is playing in 4,179 theaters in North America, which is the most of any movie since the pandemic began.
