City Girls have certainly made a stain on the music industry since their debut. Ever since releasing their debut mixtape Period in 2018, the Miami duo has gone on to release two studio albums, Girl Code in 2018 followed by City on Lock in 2020. Girl Code featured the RIAA-platinum certified singles “Twerk” with Cardi B and “Act Up,” while City on Lock included appearances from Doja Cat, Lil Durk, Lil Baby, and more. 

JT, Lil Uzi Vert’s current beau and half of the duo, has suggested that the pair are more focused on dropping singles than a full production right now. Either way, they are certainly doing something right. They’ve recently earned their first Billboard Hot 100 debut ever with their viral hit “Twerkulator.”  

“PERIOD! Our first solo debut,” wrote JT on Instagram in the caption of a screenshot from chart aggregate source chartdata confirming the news. “I’m so happy for us because we’re always counted out I heard ‘you missed it’ so many times when I got out!” she continued, referring to her brief stint behind bars in the early days of their success.

She added, “Honestly we just getting started! After prison, deaths, leaked albums, I’m soooo thankful!!! Even thou we gave jobs, p*ssy talk & fire ass remixes. Thank GOD, our team, the city girls/boys, tik tokers & the mf twerkulatorsssss! now let’s shoot a movie & request it at radio.” 

It’s likely that once the duo does debut a music video for the hit it’ll continue to climb from its current position at #51 on the charts.

Things are heating up. We’re all getting back outside, slowly but surely, as vaccine jabs continue to reach one arm at a time. As we tip-toe towards our new normal, we’ll need some fire new music to keep us feeling right all summer long and it looks like Quavo, Offset, and Takeoff have got us covered on that front.

Announcing that their upcoming Migos album, titled Culture 3, will be arriving next week, Quavo spoke with Complex about his latest collaboration with Lids, releasing an iced-out fitted cap. While the interview centred mostly around that collaboration, as well as Quavo’s sneakerhead tendencies, the rapper also opened up about what we can expect from the album. His confidence is clear, calling Culture 3 the best album of the year.

“Greatness. The greatest album of this year. The greatest album of the summer,” said Quavo about what fans can anticipate from the upcoming release. “It’s back open. I feel like this album going to open up the world. We’re having fun and smiling again, you know what I mean? Everybody’s been hurtin’, and going through this pandemic, and losing loved ones. I feel like this is a breakthrough. This is the sonic boom to the new life and new world that we live in. We’ve been going through this pandemic for like a year and a half. So, we’re coming back with Culture 3. We haven’t dropped any music in three years. The year that we was going to drop, the pandemic hit. So I just feel like it’s a breath of fresh air. 

We got some good guys on there. We got our good friends on there. It’s going to be the greatest album of the year. We put our blood, sweat, and tears into it. We had a lot of time to go over and a lot of time to bond and be together with this album. So, Culture 3. 6/11.”

Quavo added that the group didn’t fret after people started writing off the Migos following Culture 2, which some fans found underwhelming.

“Nah. That’s just the young generation. You leave the porch for two years, somebody’s gonna be sittin on it. But it’s not the throne,” he explained. “Cause we sit at the top and we respect everything that’s going on. But that’s just the youth. They got a short attention span. Like you said, it’s been three years. It’s time to take control and bring the spotlight back to the stage.”

As far as features go, it looks like we can expect songs with the late Pop Smoke, the recently-freed Bobby Shmurda, and more.

Lloyd Banks is ready to deliver his first studio album in over ten years, The Course Of The Inevitable. With the project set to arrive this coming Friday, June 4th, Banks previously unveiled the tracklist and production credits, the latter of which can be seen here. As far as featured guest appearances, the Punchline King opted to keep the roster short, with Benny The Butcher, Roc Marci, Styles P, Sy Ari Da Kid, and Vado set to hold it down.

Now, Banks has come through to add another elite lyricist to the fold, officially updating the tracklist to include an appearance from Freddie Gibbs. He confirmed as much by way of a brief visual teaser, indicating that Gangsta Gibbs will be present and accounted for on the Cartunebeatz produced “Empathy.”

As expected, the combination of Banks and Gibbs has elicited much excitement, given that both parties have been widely regarded as some of the game’s most formidable lyricists. Though Banks has been largely inactive on the studio album tip, Gibbs is in the midst of an incredible run — not only did he help bring bars to The Grammy Awards with Alfredo, but he’s also steadily working on his upcoming SSS with an epic list of contributing producers. Perhaps we’ll see Banks slide through with a verse to return the favor.

As the United States of America approaches the first full six months of Joe Biden’s presidency, reports reveal that the country’s previous president still hasn’t let the 2020 presidential election results go. Apparently, Donald Trump remains hopeful that he will somehow be reinstated as president by the time August rolls around.

According to Complex, Trump and his close friends have reportedly been telling people in their circles that he expects to be reinstated in a matter of months, and MyPillow CEO Mike Lindell is allegedly one of several people who believe that he will indeed return to office later this year.

Recently, CNN‘s Donie O’Sullivan visited Washington, D.C. to interview Trump supporters who are convinced that the 45th president will regain office this year, and many of them spoke of a Myanmar-style coup being organized. While that news alone is alarming, a New York Times journalist recently revealed that talks of a coup have been bubbling alongside Trump’s talks of being reinstated in August.

“Trump has been telling a number of people he’s in contact with that he expects he will get reinstated by August (no that isn’t how it works but simply sharing the information),” NYT‘s Maggie Haberman wrote. Check out Haberman’s tweet and CNN‘s original video below.

President Joe Biden has been doing a lot to make sure he stays in the good graces of the American people. He fired off a few rounds of stimulus checks, acknowledged the Armenian genocide, and finally pushed the country towards a post-pandemic state. Late last month he invited George Floyd’s family to the White House on the 1st anniversary of his death.  

The President also recently gave a speech in Tulsa, Oklahoma to commemorate the 100th anniversary of the Tulsa Race Massacre. In the speech, he announced new steps his administration would be taking to build Black wealth and narrow the racial wealth gap in cities like Memphis and others. He’s drawn ire from some for suggesting that Black businesses lack lawyers and accountants in the speech.

“The data shows, young Black entrepreneurs are just as capable of succeeding given the chance as white entrepreneurs are. But they don’t have lawyers, they don’t have accountants, but they have great ideas,” says the President.

He continues, “Does anyone doubt this whole nation would be better off from the investments those people make? And I promise you, that’s why I set up the National Small Business administration that is much broader, cause they’re gonna get those loans.” 

While many disagreed with the generalizing statement, others viewed it as motivational. Love & Hip Hop‘s Tokyo Vanity penned, “I know this don’t apply to all of us, but for the ones who it does, step it up and prove him wrong ! If you need help with finding a lawyer or accountant I’ll help you.”

One of the founders of the St. Paul branch of the Black Lives Matter organization in Minnesota has explained his decision to resign after learning the so-called “ugly truth” behind the social movement. Rashad Turner is presently featured in a TakeCharge Minnesota video on YouTube where he explained his decision to leave BLM after a year and a half.

“I believed the organization stood for exactly what the name implies — Black lives do matter. However, after a year on the inside, I learned they had little concern for rebuilding Black families,” said Turner. His issue with the movement appears to lie in its stance on education in the Black community.

“[Black Lives Matter] cared even less about improving the quality of education for students in Minneapolis,” he added. “That was made clear when they publicly denounced charter schools alongside the teacher’s union. I was an insider in Black Lives Matter and I learned the ugly truth. The moratorium on charter schools does not support rebuilding the Black family but it does create barriers to a better education for Black children.”

This comes following the resignation of BLM co-founder Patrisse Cullors, who left the organization last week. A few days earlier, a BLM activist was shot in the head in London, being placed in critical condition.

Fat Joe has been doing this for a minute, having been spitting bars in the rap game since the early nineties when he went by “Fat Joe da Gangsta.” Currently among the most respected vets in hip-hop, Joe has continuously carried himself with authenticity and dedication to the preservation of hip-hop history. This week, Joey Crack put his skill set on display by way of a Tiny Desk Concert, running through a fifteen-minute medley of his hits alongside an impressive live band. 

Holding it down for Joe are Eugene “Man-Man” Roberts on the keys, Rashid Williams on the drums, Eric Whatley on the bass, Simon Martinez on guitar, DJ Ted Smooth behind the turntables, and Angelica Vila on the backup vocals. For the most part, Joey lined up some of his biggest tunes from across the years — “My Lifestyle” and “What’s Luv?” off J.O.S.E,  “Lean Back” on True Story,  the DJ Khaled-assisted “Sunshine (The Light)”, and he and Remy Ma’s “All The Way Up” off Plata O Plomo.

As per usual, the Tiny Desk format not only highlights the instrumental arrangements of the songs but the performance capabilities of the rapper. Many were quick to note Joey’s impressive breath control, refreshing given the ubiquity of backing tracks during live renditions. Though it might have been nice to have a committed hypeman on board, Joe’s formidable presence keeps the Tiny Desk rendition engaging throughout.
