SOHH Review: Nicki Minaj Opens The Gates To Gag City With ‘Pink Friday 2’

Nicki Minaj

Nicki Minaj has finally unleashed her highly anticipated fifth studio album, Pink Friday 2. Fans are entering Gag City on a first-class flight. With 23 songs showcasing her growth over nearly two decades in the rap game, the album pays homage to her “Mixtape Nicki” persona before her Young Money days.

Pink Friday 2 Takeover

After an eventful rollout, which included her sold-out album-inspired fragrance, Pink Friday 2 is Nicki Minaj’s latest masterpiece, and it has sent the Barbz into a frenzy.

With only two of the album’s 23 tracks being previously released singles, the Queen of Rap truly showcases her growth as an artist. Fans are thrilled to see her embodying her past projects while also paying tribute to her mixtape era.

The album demands multiple listens to grasp its depth fully and appreciate Nicki Minaj’s intricate storytelling ability.

The love for the “Moment 4 Life” rapper and her new album has poured in from fans across the globe. Social media is ablaze with comments praising the rap legend. One fan tweeted about the song “Fallin 4 U,” “The softness of her voice on this track and how calm the rap just flowed. Nah Nicki ate with this album #PinkFriday2Takeover #PinkFriday2”

Another fan expressed the need for more recognition of the “Itty Bitty Piggy” rapper’s talent,“I don’t see enough hype for my life like let’s not leave her out #PinkFriday2 #PinkFriday2Takeover”

Was That Shade?

Throughout the album, there are hints of possible shade towards other artists.

In the track “FTCU,” the Pinkprint artist references Tory Lanez:

“Stay in your tory lane, bitch, I’m not Iggy.”

This line comes after Iggy Azalea defended Lanez against abuse allegations. Additionally, in the song “Fallin 4 U,” Minaj’s lyrics offer a play on words that fans interpret as shots towards Latto, with lines like:

“I Mean Loc Hos, You- Yous A Chop Ho.”

Pink Friday 2 Features

Pink Friday 2 features collaborations fans expected, such as Lil Wayne and Drake, and introduces new faces to the mix.

Esteemed artists like J. Cole, Tasha Cobbs Leonard, and emerging talent Lourdiz bring their unique styles to the album, adding further depth to the project. One standout moment on the album is the heartfelt introduction track, “Are You Gone Already,” where the “Grand Piano” shares a tender moment with her son, Papa Bear.

New Ye Project On The Horizon?

In the realm of album releases, another highly anticipated project is on the horizon. Kanye West is set to make a comeback with his upcoming studio album, marking his first release since February 2022’s Donda 2.
