Ja Morant is currently the biggest newsmaker in the entire NBA. Of course, this isn’t exactly a good thing when you consider what the news is. Overall, Morant’s future in the NBA is in a bit of jeopardy. After flashing a gun on social media, Morant has taken an indefinite leave of absence from the Grizzlies. Ultimately, there is no telling when he will return. Moreover, he could very well face some legal repercussions as police in Colorado are investigating his actions. This is all very bad, and the Grizzlies are very concerned about their star.
Subsequently, there have been all sorts of hot takes in relation to Morant. ESPN has certainly been a source of a lot of these takes. Stephen A. Smith, Kendrick Perkins, and a whole host of others have been scolding Morant for his actions. However, there are some people who want to take a more positive approach. “Him and his family are good people,” Jefferson said. “I believe in him. I believe that he’ll kind of turn things on. And, look, we’ve seen men come through worse and come out on the other side.” Jefferson is certainly correct in his assessment. There are players who have come back from worse. Moreover, based on Morant’s most recent statement, it is clear that he understands how bad this looks. He has hundreds of millions of dollars in contracts and endorsements, and he cannot afford to lose that.
For now, Morant will have to continue his hiatus from the game. He has a lot of work to do, and the Grizzlies will only reinstate him once they feel like he has learned his lesson. Overall, it is going to be a difficult process, but it is certainly a necessary one given how last week went.
