KPMG Continues Title Sponsorship of HBCU Showcase at The Armory

The Armory Foundation proudly announced that KPMG LLP, the prominent U.S. accounting and professional services firm, will extend its title sponsorship of the HBCU Showcase track and field meet for a second consecutive year. The HBCU Showcase, proudly sponsored by KPMG, is scheduled to take place at the Nike Track & Field Center at The Armory in New York City on Saturday, January 13, 2024.

The HBCU Showcase, a marquee event on the track and field calendar, shines a spotlight on the track and field programs of over 20 distinguished Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs) nationwide. Alongside the athletic competition, the event also hosts a college admissions fair for New York City high school students seeking guidance for their higher education journey. Last year, the Showcase successfully engaged more than 700 students from HBCUs and local area high schools.

The Nike Track & Field Center at The Armory, a hub for tens of thousands of high school students practicing and competing annually, provides a unique platform for HBCU college admissions representatives to connect with students exploring their college options. It also gives students a firsthand look at what an HBCU education entails and a glimpse into potential career opportunities, notably those offered by KPMG.

The Armory Foundation, the driving force behind the HBCU Showcase sponsored by KPMG, believes this event will significantly raise the visibility of HBCUs, ultimately resulting in increased enrollment. Furthermore, it offers student-athletes the remarkable opportunity to compete on one of the world’s most renowned indoor tracks, enjoy vibrant performances by HBCU marching bands and step teams, and immerse themselves in the unique culture of New York City.

“HBCU engagement is a core component of Accelerate 2025, KPMG’s strategy rooted in growing and supporting a diverse workforce and inclusive work environment. We are committed to building a larger, more diverse pipeline of future public accounting and professional services talent,” said  Elena Richards, KPMG U.S. Chief Diversity, Equity & Inclusion Officer. “We are honored to  collaborate with The Armory Foundation for the second year in our shared mission to create  equitable access to rewarding career pathways and higher education for students.”

“KPMG’s commitment to HBCUs goes beyond posting jobs or hosting recruiting events on campus  – we are dedicated to building lasting relationships that support both students and HBCUs’ local communities. The Showcase is a prime example of that,” said Jennifer Neal, KPMG U.S. Diversity  Talent Attraction Leader. “Building and nurturing relationships with these schools is critical to  sustained engagement with students who are exploring majors and academic paths that may  encourage them to explore opportunities at KPMG.”

This year’s HBCU Showcase anticipates participation from more than 23 schools, many of which are celebrated for their accounting programs, including Delaware State University, Florida A&M University, North Carolina A&T State University, Prairie View A&M University, Tuskegee University, and the University of Maryland – Eastern Shore, among others.

“We are thrilled to once again partner with an incredible organization like KPMG. Their dedication  to supporting HBCU students and setting them up for success post-graduation is invaluable,” said  Zakia Haywood, HBCU Showcase Meet Director and The Armory’s Director of College Track &  Field and Special Projects. “Together with KPMG, we anticipate making this year’s HBCU  Showcase another spectacular experience – on and off the track.”
