Kanye West To Pay $300K After Losing Yeezy SHDZ Lawsuit

Kanye West and his Yeezy brand have certainly gone through their fair share of issues over the last little while. Overall, it mostly started with his crusade against Jewish people. Ultimately, Kanye’s rantings and ravings subsequently led to him being dropped by Adidas. Consequently, he lost a lot of his funding, and the brand hasn’t done much since. Moreover, he has faced quite a few lawsuits from previous employees. More recently, according to HipHopDX, he lost a lawsuit filed by a creative director who worked on his YZY SHDZ campaign.

As the story goes, Katelyn Mooney was contracted to do a last-minute photoshoot for the campaign. This shoot took place on September 13th, and Mooney was able to complete the necessary work without any issues. However, as she alleges, Kanye West never paid her the agreed-upon amount. The amount in question was a whopping $110,000. Instead, Kanye only paid her $15,000, which led to the lawsuit.

“Ms. Mooney was to be fully responsible for every aspect of the photo shoot, including but not limited to hiring models, reserving studio space, procuring lighting, catering, pre-production, and post-production,” the lawsuit explains. “Yeezy had no issues with Ms. Mooney’s work or the final delivered product.” Interestingly enough, Mooney was only seeking $110K in the lawsuit. However, a judge decided that Ye will have to pay $300K instead. Reports from The New York Post reveal that $95K is for actual damages, while $205K is for statutory damage. Needless to say, things are not going well for Kanye and the Yeezy imprint.

To make matters worse here, Ye never responded to the lawsuit when it was first brought across his desk. Overall, this led to a bad outcome for him. The judge was not forgiving of his lack of urgency, and now, Mooney will be getting triple what she was originally supposed to be paid. It remains to be seen how Ye will react to this decision.
