Count Grant Williams as another one not happy with recent officiating. Sixers head coach Doc Rivers expressed his concern with the officiating on Tuesday night, as well as Williams. The Celtics took a tough loss to the Sixers in a game where both teams were looking for momentum. Williams has been known to get under the skin of an official with his so-called “flopping.” However, this time, Williams felt he was being slighted the entire game.
“Later in the game, after Joel throws me across the face on the out-of-bounds play, no review of a flagrant, no review of nothing,” Grant Williams stated. “Then he proceeds to say, ‘How the f— do you call a foul on me in that position? That’s not a f—–g foul.’ And no technical foul. So it was like, OK, did I do something different from the other guys that led to me getting a technical foul? Or is it one of those things where I just need to shut up and dribble?”
Grant Williams Frustrated With Treatment By Officials
Williams believed the game was far too physical. As well as believing the officials only saw the physicality on one side. The Boston star claims he was given a technical for no reason. The technical only furthered his frustrations when, later in the game; he felt there were more missed calls. Grant seems to be focused on one major Sixers player when discussing missed calls. That name would be Joel Embiid. Embiid is chasing his first-ever MVP award. However, Williams could care less about something like that.
It’s not just Grant Williams. Many players have spoken about their disappointment with the officiating this season. Recently, Raptors guard Fred VanVleet called out an official by name. While it is never good for a player to do this, players want their voices heard. The officiating issues this season will most certainly be looked at this summer.
