Daniel Seavey Asks ‘Can We Pretend That We’re Good?’ For ‘UPROXX Sessions’

You may know Portland’s Daniel Seavey from the cult boy band, Why Don’t We, responsible for hits “What Am I” and “I Don’t Belong in This Club,” featuring Macklemore. The uber-successful group he formed with Jack Avery, Jonah Marais, Zach Herron, and Corbyn Besson announced their indefinite hiatus in July, signaling a new chapter for Seavey. If you’re still not fully familiar with the burgeoning pop singer, get to know today’s UPROXX Sessions talent who first tiptoed into his solo career after the release of his unofficial track “Bleed on Me” over the summer.

Following that release Daniel dropped his debut single, “Can We Pretend That We’re Good?” with a powerfully vulnerable visual commenting on his religious upbringing, purity culture, and more. He joins UPROXX Sessions for a poignant performance of the track, begging his romantic partner for another chance.

DreamDoll Gets Deep In Her ‘UPROXX Sessions’ Performance of ‘Misunderstood’

UPROXX Sessions is back with a new performance from Bronx rapper, DreamDoll. At just 30 years old, the emcee responsible for viral hits like “Ah Ah Ah,” has collaborated with industry titans like French Montana and Rick Ross, and was a cast member on hit reality TV shows Love & Hip Hop: New York and Bad Girls Club. She recently got candid about being just “one song away” from her career breakthrough in an interview with Power 106 Los Angeles, and we’re hoping her Sessions performance aids in that quantum leap.

Today she graces the bathroom set with “Misunderstood” from her new mixtape Life In Plastic 3. The track and the Doll’s performance are emotionally-charged efforts. Her Sessions set positions her as an introvert with introspective lyricism, unafraid to be vulnerable in the nearly 3-minute track. Taking a page from the past, DreamDoll closes her performance pondering whether she is a “misfit or just misunderstood,” supported by an interpolation of Nina Simone’s classic “Don’t Let Me Be Misunderstood.”

Finesse2Tymes Brings The Viral Hit ‘Back End’ To UPROXX Sessions

The name may be new to you, but, Finesse2Tymes isn’t a rookie to the rap game. The Memphis native rose to local prominence years back alongside fellow hometown rappers like Moneybagg Yo and Blac Youngsta. Yet his rise to national fame and consciousness was cut short after being arrested due to a federal weapons charge.

Five years later, he’s back and better, with an infectious hit under his belt. His single, “Back End,” exploded on TikTok late this summer, and he hasn’t looked back. Creators were obsessed with the standout lyric, “It’s cool when they do it (It’s cool, huh?) / It’s a problem when I do it, f*ck ’em,” and today he brings the hit’s contagious energy to UPROXX Sessions.

Finesse2Tyme is far from shy in his Sessions performance. He brings the spirit of the south and the confidence of a rapper with a viral hit to the bathroom stage. Watch Finesse2Tymes perform “Back End” for UPROXX Sessions above.

Alemeda Is ‘Gonna Bleach My Eyebrows’ In An Attention-Grabbing ‘UPROXX Sessions’

Ethiopia-born, Arizona-raised Alemeda has been garnering a following with TikTok-friendly singles like “Post Nut Clarity” and “Wish You The Worst.” Combining hyper-contemporary aesthetics with nostalgic R&B vibes, she’s quickly become a go-to for listeners looking to indulge in the chaotic contradictions of youth.

Alemeda stops by Uproxx Studios to give a compelling, attention-grabbing performance of her fan-favorite single “Gonna Bleach My Eyebrows” for UPROXX Sessions. Over an uptempo, dreamy beat, Alemeda dismisses a noncommital wannabe lover after cutting him off for good, embracing her newfound freedom by dramatically changing her personal style.

Although the up-and-coming singer only has a few songs to her name so far, it wouldn’t be a bad idea to start keeping an ear out as she continues to rack up streams from fans and features on tracks from fellow artists like Reason and Ab-Soul.

HotBlock Jmoe Gets Reflective For His ‘UPROXX Sessions’ Live Performance Of ‘9 x Outta 10’

Rising Chicago star HotBlock Jmoe is making a name for himself and his song “9 x Outta 10” is reflective of that with its mesmerizing melody coupled with soothing words that are relatable and just as reflective of where his future is headed. Jmoe recently stopped by our Culver City studio for a UPROXX Sessions rendition of the song and performed the one-shot take perfectly.

“‘9 X Outta 10’ is about me expressing, ‘I am who I am,’” Jmoe told Revolt in October about the track in an interview. “Embracing my new lifestyle, but still hungry for more. Long nights and consistency [go] a long way, so I figured if I keep working hard, [nine times] out of 10, I’ll be the hottest.” He’s not wrong and his UPROXX Sessions performance is a great indicator of how far that consistency will take him.

Gangsta Boo Declares ‘I’m Fresh’ In A Rowdy Performance For ‘UPROXX Sessions’

Dirty South rap legend Gangsta Boo is back in the public’s consciousness thanks to Latto and GloRilla repurposing Three 6 Mafia‘s “Tear The Club Up” in their new single “FTCU,” which features the Memphis Queenpin. Keeping the ball rolling, Gangsta Boo hits the UPROXX Sessions studio to perform a rowdy rendition of her unrestrained 2020 single “I’m Fresh.” The track, which Boo released alongside New York producer Nick Hook, is a bass-blasting, drum-heavy club anthem in which she implores listeners to “smoke weed [and] eat p*ssy.”

“I just remember Nick playing some beats we were vibing at thespacepit studio but nothing was sticking to me, so we decided to create on the spot, piece by piece,” she explained on the song’s Bandcamp page. “I didn’t have to write any of the lyrics down because the beat wrote for me, so it was easy to freestyle off the dome. I used my voice like a record to create scratching sounds and we added harmonica and guitar, just to be different. Why not?I just kept hearing more and more as the track went on. Me and Nick overthink things a lot because we’re perfectionists with our sounds. I was just thinking about everything that I was doing and how I was feeling at the time while stoned and that’s how ‘I’m Fresh’ was made: two fresh people in the room together with a microphone.”

Friyie Says ‘Sorry Not Sorry’ With His ‘UPROXX Sessions’ Performance

Today’s UPROXX Sessions rapper follows in the footsteps of Canadian favorites like Drake and The Weekend, making big moves and repping his home country. Meet Friyie, the 27-year-old rapper from Toronto who’s collaborated with Roddy Ricch and Rick Ross and is a rising star, years in the making. Back in 2017, his single, “Money Team,” amassed over 1 million views on YouTube and became the soundtrack to the Mayweather vs. McGregor press conferences. That same year he opened Cardi B’s Las Vegas show at the T-Mobile Area.

Today the 6’s Friyie brings his 2022 single, “Sorry Not Sorry,” to UPROXX Studios, one of four he’s released this year. “Sorry Not Sorry” is also featured on Never 2 Late, the rapper’s upcoming EP. Friyie’s high energy is assisted by cheeky lyrics like “now your best friend Ghost like Tommy,” for an all-around hard-hitting performance.

Lil Zay Osama Brings The Melodic ‘Mmmhmmmm’ To ‘UPROXX Sessions’

Lil Zay Osama started rapping when he was just eight years old, and over 15 years later, he’s a Southside Chicago favorite with a feature from Lil Durk on his most recent project. His debut album, 2019’s Hood Bible, put him on the map for departing from his city’s infamous drill sound, featuring more pop-leaning records like “Percocet Crazy.” Combined with a dedicated fanbase and viral YouTube videos under his belt, Lil Zay Osama isn’t a Chicago newcomer anymore. He’s here to stay.

Today, the Chi’s Lil Zay Osama brings his “pain music” to the bathroom stage with his single “Mmmhmmmm.” The track comes from his most recent mixtape, Trench Baby 3, which also featured the hit “F*ck My Cousin.” His performance is melodic but doesn’t compromise the grittiness of his hometown’s sound. The track’s chorus is inspirational and candid as Lil Zay raps about his successes and gives insight into his rules of the streets.

TiaCorine Take Us Back With ‘Chaka Khan’ For ‘UPROXX Sessions’

You may know North Carolina’s TiaCorine from her single “Lotto,” which caught the attention of SZA, A$AP Rocky, and fellow female rapper Rico Nasty. If not, get to know today’s UPROXX Sessions talent with over a million streams on SoundCloud and millions more on Spotify. She dropped, I Can’t Wait this past month, her first offering since releasing her 34Corine EP. The album features UnoTheActivist, Tony Shhnow, and Kenny Beats.

She joins UPROXX Sessions to perform her latest single, “Chaka Khan,” a collaboration between Kenny and herself from I Can’t Wait. Her performance is sweet and childlike, emphasized by her high-pitched rap-singing and barrettes. Yet, with lyrics highlighting her sexual prowess (like the legend the song borrows its name from) and Kenny’s signature production, TiaCorine flexes her range and delivers a lively performance.

DIXSON Performs A Smooth Rendition Of ‘Barely’ For ‘UPROXX Sessions’

This week, UPROXX Sessions welcomes R&B producer and singer-songwriter DIXSON to the bathroom stage. You may know the Atlanta, Georgia native as a former contestant on NBC’s The Voice or from his collaborations with industry heavy-hitters Chance The Rapper, Vic Mensa, and Pharrell.

DIXSON, born Darius Scott, has come a long way since his 2016 appearance on The Voice. The Roc Nation signee has two projects plus multiple writing credits for Beyoncé under his belt and is gearing up to release his third studio album, O04DAISY.

Today, he joins UPROXX Sessions with his upbeat groove, “Barely,” from his upcoming album. The multihyphenate artist uses the track’s hook to flex his carefree attitude and lack of control in a relationship. Flowing effortlessly between rapping and rap-singing, DIXSON’s performance is prolific and poetic, like his frequent collaborators: Chance and Vic Mensa.
