T-Pain Shares The List Of Features He’s Agreed To Do After Finally Checking His DMs

There’s an age-old adage in the customer service world: Underpromise, overdeliver. Unfortunately, it seems that T-Pain hadn’t heard of that one before agreeing to work with some of the artists whose Instagram DMs went unanswered in the time he didn’t realize they were being filed away to the “requests” folder. The inimitable hook master posted a list of the upcoming features he’s got in the works to Twitter, and it’s safe to say his workload may have gotten a little out of hand.

Included in the list are some of Pain’s fellow producers like DJ Carnage and Murda Beats, rising stars like Erica Banks and Yung Bleu, longtime veterans Big Tigga and Tech N9ne, and even his feature-killer heir apparent, Ty Dolla Sign. Explaining why it might be taking him a little longer to get through his to-do list, he wrote, “I wanna start this thread off by saying I’m definitely not complaining about this but I don’t think we know what kind of pressure we put on others. This isn’t for the fans.”

He continued in the thread, “I literally can’t keep up with the ppl that aren’t on this list that hit me every day to add work to my crazy workload. This is the list of features I actually HAVENT done yet that I’ve gotten since the whole ‘situation’ a while back and I’ve promised to deliver. This is just features that I actually WANT to do. I’ve talked to these ppl personally and accepted the job. If you ask me for a feature at this point, just know that this list is in the order that the requests were received so there’s no way to get to the top of the list.”

Finally, he made note of the personal sacrifice he’s made to keep up with his promise to make up for lost time: “I Love y’all but Gaaaaaaaahdaaaaaaamn I’ve pushed my own album back 3 times because I’m making sure everybody else is good. I’m gettin to it I swear.” He also pointed out that he cares about quality over quantity and won’t just “blurt out random words” like other, derivative artists he recently delivered a derisive rant about. After taking on such a monumental challenge, we can only hope that Pain finds a work balance that lets him get enough rest, put out his own projects, and learn to take on new projects one at a time.

T-Pain Said He Took Jay-Z’s ‘D.O.A. (Death Of Auto-Tune)’ Personally And Almost Wrote A Diss Track In Response

T-Pain has faced his fair share of conflict in the music industry throughout his career. One big topic includes the negative reception toward auto-tune during the biggest points of his career. Many felt the singer’s use of the filter on his voice made it easier for singers who could not sing to find success in music, or as Usher allegedly put it, T-Pain “really f*cked up music for real singers.”

This resulted in another low moment for T-Pain with the release of Jay-Z’s “D.O.A. (Death of Auto-Tune),” which many felt was targeted at the singer.

During a recent appearance on N.O.R.E. and DJ EFN’s Drink Champs, T-Pain reflected on that song and explained whether he felt it was a targeted attack against him.

“Of course! A wise man once said, ‘You can’t knock the hustle,’” he said. “I’m the face of this. Just like Lil Yachty was the face of mumble rap—anytime somebody talk about mumble rap, Lil Yachty was the first person to come up. I was the face of Auto-Tune. Anytime somebody said, ‘Auto-Tune,’ I’m the face. So, when you say Auto-Tune is wack, I’m the face.”

He continued, “If I woulda said f*ckin’ blue Yankees are terrible, everybody woulda been like, ‘Oh you dissin’ Jay-Z now?’ … Anytime [Jay] says something is wack, it’s trash.”

T-Pain then revealed that he almost released a diss song in response to “D.O.A. (Death of Auto-Tune),” but his team advised him not to.

“I was, like, really drunk. I was ready to go,” he admitted. “I went into the studio and started recording the record and my managers were like, ‘I think we just need to take a break.’ … We were supposed to take a break for four months, I ended up taking a break for four years.”

Usher Says He’s ‘Happy’ T-Pain Spoke Out About Their Alleged Auto-Tune Conversation

Toward the end of June, a clip from Netflix’s This Is Pop made its way to social media. in it, T-Pain detailed a past conversation he had with Usher where the Confessions singer allegedly told him that he “really f*cked up music for real singers” as a result of his auto-tune style.

T-Pain added that the conversation “started a four-year depression for me,” but he also insisted that he still has “love and respect” for Usher despite his comments. Nearly two months later, Usher offered a response to that conversation being made public during a profile with Billboard.

“I’m happy that T-Pain said something,” the singer said to Billboard’s Gail Mitchell. “I’m not sure if it was before or after our actual conversation, after I heard what was said. It was very hurtful to know that he had experienced that kind of hardship in life.” Responding to T-Pain’s claim that the conversation led to his depression, Usher said, “I wouldn’t wish that on any person.”

“Private conversations for me have always been intended to uplift,” Usher added. “But when or if people get pieces of it, they can always have some other interpretation. But we’ve spoken since and we’re good.”

The conversation with Billboard came after Usher launched his Las Vegas residency. He previously spoke about the string of shows and somewhat revealed what fans can expect when they attend.

“I want you to guess,” he said. “I want to keep you bubbling with anticipation until I have dropped the first record and you hear the first moment. When the lights go down and you feel the energy. I promise the classics and also new stuff.”
