Since Pitbull emerged in the early 2000s, he has released twelve albums, with his latest project, Trackhouse in October 2023. His early exposure to an eclectic mix of musical genres laid the foundation for what would later become his distinctive sound. Subsequently, his breakthrough came with the 2009 smash hit single, “I Know You Want Me.” The chart-topping song contributed to establishing Pitbull as a global force. As a matter of fact, Pitbull was ranked by Billboard among the 50 Top Artists of the 2010s. 

Admittedly, his domination can be said to have started in the late 2000s. However, he had an even more impressive commercial performance in the 2010s. After all, his best-selling albums were released within the decade. While Global Warming (2012) and Globalization (2014) sold impressive numbers, however, Planet Pit (2011) remains in the topmost position.

Planet Pit is a monumental work in Pitbull’s discography, and the numbers display its impact. Since its release, the album has sold over 2 million units in the US, according to RIAA. Therefore, it is a 2x Platinum album, which ranks it above all other albums Pitbull has released. Certainly, each of these albums sees Pitbull tapping into his immense well of talent. However, Planet Pit is the rapper at his most commercially appealing. While Global Warming achieved similar numbers, Planet Pit slightly edges it out, claiming that top spot. Despite never reaching the Top 10 of the Billboard 200 Chart, Planet Pit was a very successful album.

The Wonderful World Of Planet Pit

Released on June 17, 2011, Planet Pit is Pitbull’s sixth studio album. It stands as a pivotal chapter in his musical journey, marking a dynamic convergence of genres and cultures. In fact, the title itself serves as a metaphor for a global soundscape where diverse musical influences conjoin under Pitbull’s command. Over the years, Pitbull has come to be known for his genre-blending albums. Likewise, throughout Planet Pit, he showcased his adeptness at genre fusion. “Hey Baby (Drop It To The Floor)” feat. T-Pain was the lead single from Planet Pit. The high-octane dance-pop anthem set the tone for the album’s infectious energy and enjoyed moderate commercial success. However, the single that followed it became a global sensation and earned the rapper his first Hot 100 chart-topper. “Give Me Everything,” feat. Ne-Yo, Afrojack, and Nayer, emphatically underscored Pitbull’s crossover appeal. Additionally, it was one of the biggest songs of 2011. In fact, it appeared at #5 on Billboard Hot 100’s year-end chart.

The Latin-infused dance track “Rain Over Me,” feat. Marc Anthony followed and became a huge commercial success, as well. Finally, the Chris Brown-assisted final single “International Love,” rounded off the album’s singles. In addition to the aforementioned artists, Enrique Iglesias, Sean Paul, Kelly Rowland, and Jamie Foxx, among others, also appear on Planet Pit. Mac Miller Gets First Multi-Platinum Album Certification

Mac Miller’s untimely death in 2018 had a profound impact on the creative world. However, his music has remained popular, and his recent certifications demonstrate his enduring appeal. On June 7, Mac Miller’s final studio album released before his passing, Swimming, achieved double platinum certification from the RIAA. This signifies two million units sold in the U.S. In February 2021, the album had already received platinum certification, marking Mac’s first project to reach that status. Furthermore, the song “Self Care” from the same album has been certified 5x platinum. That has surpassed his previous highest-certified song, “Weekend,” a collaboration with Miguel. That track achieved 4x platinum status from his 2015 album GO:OD AM.

Mac Miller’s earlier albums, Blue Slide Park, Watching Movies With the Sound Off, and GO:OD AM have all been certified gold. Even his posthumous release Circles has made gold status. Swimming was released in August 2018, a month before Mac Miller’s passing. It is often considered his magnum opus and was nominated for Best Rap Album at the 61st Annual Grammy Awards. It is a testament to the rapper’s artistry that was unfortunately snuffed out too soon.

Although he couldn’t witness his music’s continued success, Mac Miller’s legacy lives on through his art. Jon Brion, who worked on Swimming, was enlisted by Mac’s estate to help complete the album he had been working on before his untimely death. In 2020, the posthumous album Circles was released to critical acclaim. It debuted at No. 3 on the Billboard 200 and achieved Mac’s highest sales week for an album, with 164,000 units sold. The lead single, “Good News,” became his highest-charting track as a lead artist. It reached No. 17 on the Billboard Hot 100. Mac Miller’s family has been careful and sensitive in handling his legacy since his passing. In 2021, his 2014 mixtape Faces was finally made available on streaming platforms after clearing the necessary samples.

Looking ahead, there is a possibility of new music from Mac Miller. Reportedly, he left behind an extensive collection of unreleased material. After featuring Mac on his album Liberation 2, producer Madlib revealed earlier this year that he is putting the finishing touches on the long-awaited “Maclib” project. He confirmed that this is the same project that was previously reported. He also said that Mac Miller’s estate has given approval for its eventual release. At least Mac Miller fans have something to look forward to in the future. For now, they can enjoy the late rapper’s continued success.

There’s no denying Cordae’s success in music. At just 25 years old, the DMV rapper packed plenty of accomplishments on his resume. He’s a Grammy-nominated rapper thanks to his debut album, The Lost Boy. He’s worked with celebrated artists like Eminem, Chance The Rapper, HER, Robert Glasper, Common, Nas, and more. He also has two top-15 albums to his name thanks to The Lost Boy and From A Birds Eye View. All of these accomplishments and more are at the center of his new single, “Multi-Platinum.”

Cordae’s latest release is quite the celebratory effort as he takes a moment to relish in his success, something he has every right to do especially at his young age. Thanks to production from Kid Culture, Cordae uses the track to narrate this very success from start to now. The track also stands as his first official release since sharing From A Birds Eye View earlier this year.

Months after releasing From A Birds Eye View, Cordae admitted that the project was not better than his debut. “Yo so l just drove on a lil 4 hour road trip and listened to both my albums front to back,” he wrote. “And f*ck I must say it’s most definitely “The Lost Boy > FABEV lmaooo. My bad y’all. Ima do better next time. I got sumn to prove.”
