Big Sean Unleashes 2012’s “Detroit” Featuring J. Cole, Chris Brown, Jhené Aiko & More On DSPs

With his first child on the way with long-time girlfriend Jhené Aiko, Big Sean has been looking to the future with great excitement – but that doesn’t mean he isn’t taking time to celebrate his past achievements.

To commemorate the 10-year anniversary of the 34-year-old’s 2012 Detroit mixtape, he’s responded to his fan’s cries and shared the 18-track project to DSPs, complete with features from J. Cole, Mike Posner, Juicy J, French Montana, Kendrick Lamar, and more, as well as a previously unreleased track called “More Thoughts” from 2019.

Sean shared the big news on social media on Sunday (September 4), and before Detroit landed at midnight, the Finally Famous hitmaker took time to answer burning questions from fans about the making of the mixtape.

“At the time [me and] Cole were working in studios right next to each other at NO ID Studio [and] seeing each other every day in passing for awhile. That’s how we made ’24k of Gold,'” he explained of his legendary link-up with the Dreamville head.

Sally Sossa Drops Deluxe Version of “4EVER SOSSA”

Sally Sossa dropped SOSSA 4EVER back in March, her follow up to Life of Sossa. The project included features from Lil Durk (“Star Song”), Bigkaybeezy (“Bop It”), and Flo Milli (“Toot It Up”).

Now, Sossa has extended the album with a deluxe version. The “No Respect” rapper has added four new songs, all of which include her signature swaggering delivery and some lively instrumentals. The first new addition, “Certified Stepper,” has a feature from PGF Nuk, and sees Sossa whispering menacingly about her how it’s not a good idea to mess with her.

The other additional tracks are “Weight,” “Despiteful,” and “All My Blessings.” Back in June, Sally Sossa teamed up with Slatt Zy for the single “No Respect” but that song is nowhere to be found on the extended project.

Friyie Drops Seven Records On “Never 2 Late” EP

Friyie, whose real name is David Afriyie Obeng, is a singer, songwriter, and rapper hailing from Toronto, Canada. His popularity greatly increased back in 2017 after his hit single “Money Team” became the soundtrack to the Floyd Mayweather vs. Connor McGregor press conferences. Since then, the 27-year-old has continued dropping music for his fans and now he’s back with another release.

On Friday, September 2, the artist dropped an EP entitled, Never 2 Late. He went solo on the project, completing seven songs without any features. While the entire tape was only 20 minutes long, Friyie was still able to show off his plethora of skills. From utilizing his melodious vocals to effortlessly riding beats, the BONG entertainment recording artist gave this project his all.

The artist premiered his EP at the Black Tie listening party in Toronto. While there, he was asked which records were his favorite to which he responded, “Cinderella” and “Brainless.” He explained that “Cinderella” is ready to hit the radio and that he recorded “Brainless” back in 2018– a true play on the EP’s title, Never 2 Late.

Juniper & Sango Share “97” Project Featuring Xavier Omär

This weekend, hip-hop heads have had no shortage of new albums to choose from, with Snoop Dogg bringing Metaverse: The NFT Drop, Vol. 2, G Perico showing out on LA SUMMERS2, and Pi’erre Bourne recruiting some of his favourite lyricists for his Good Movie project.

For R&B lovers though, things have been a bit quieter. Many have been showing love to Ari Lennox’s pre-album EP Away Message, but if you’re looking for something else to shake your playlist up a bit, we suggest 97 by Juniper and Sango.

The 8-track release takes less than 25 minutes to stream, and features appearances from Xavier Omär on the previously released track, “Tell Me,” as well as producer VHOOR’s on title number five (and another single), “Só Para Você.”

The project’s third single is called “Fire,” while songs like “Mas,” “Love You,” and “Em Paz” are new to the ears of listeners.

Stream Juniper and Sango’s collaborative effort, 97, on Spotify or Apple Music below, and check back in with HNHH later today to stream our weekly R&B Season playlist update.

2. Tell Me (feat. Xavier Omär)

Sha EK Delivers Debut Album “Face Of The What”

Some members of the hip hop community have been arguing that Drill is on its way out. Joe Budden said the subgenre will be gone in five or six years. Bobby Shmurda disavowed the sound, saying he won’t do it because he’s not a “minion.”

Sha EK, a young rapper rising out of the Bronx, has delivered a message to the contrary with his new project Face of the What. The 17-song album is a breathless onslaught of intense Drill, featuring hard beats and even harder bars. The record includes features from Bandmanrill, Sleazyworld Go, and PGF Nuk, but this is Sha’s album through and through.

His delivery nears a scream, defiantly calling out haters and boasting his capabilities inside and outside the studio. The production is equally bracing, with pulsating vocal synths imbuing an epic feel to multiple tracks. With rising talents like EK, it’s hard to say that Drill is going anywhere any time soon.

Check out the project below, and let us know what you think of it in the comments.

G Perico Releases New LP “LA SUMMERS2”

G Perico is nothing if not prolific. Just earlier this year, Perico released Tango, an 8-song project which included “Last Year,” a collaboration with BlocBoi Fame and Gotdamnitdupri. 2021 was even busier. Perico dropped a whopping four projects in a single year: “Welcome to the Land,” “No Love In LA,” “LA Summers,” and “Play 2 Win.”

The Los Angeles rapper shows no signs of stopping. With his new album LA SUMMERS2, Perico gives fans nine new songs. Perico’s frequent collaborator and producer Gotdamnitdupri delivers G-funk-infused songs with velvety electric pianos and smooth bass lines ideal for the dog days of summer. Perico is charismatic as ever, crooning quirky choruses and off-kilter flows.

On one stand out, “Pistol Grip Poetry,” Perico reminisces about his past over lush keys and distant horns. The track is infused with a melancholy nostalgia as Perico remembers those who he’s lost. “Poetry” leads seamlessly into “Did A Lot,” which boasts a beachy electric guitar riff and twinkling synths.

With Perico’s output, this might not be the last we hear from him this year. Check out the project below, and let us know what you think of it in the comments.

Pi’erre Bourne is finally giving fans what they’ve been waiting for with his new Good Movie album.
