YG And Lil Wayne Reminisce Over Friendships Past On Their New Song, ‘Miss My Dawgs’

A little over two months after dropping his sixth studio album, I Got Issues, YG has shared a new single. On “Miss My Dawgs,” the Compton rapper reminisces on friendships that have come and gone over the years.

“Man, I miss my dawgs / The ones I pick up for, ain’t never missed a call / Plottin’ to get it poppin’, we had plans to get it all / Wishin’ you was here, dawg, to ride these foreign cars,” raps YG on the song’s chorus.

In the first verse, he recalls the loyalty of his friends and elaborates on what makes someone genuine, saying, “My dawg is one who ride for me / They wouldn’t try me for a body, they gon’ slide for free / Wherever I be steppin’, they on side of me / Bros over hoes, built off loyalty and honesty.”

Lil Wayne joins in with a verse, which is seemingly unrelated to his own song, “I Miss My Dawgs” from his 2004 album, Tha Carter. On his verse, he makes several dog-related analogies to his own loyal pack.

In the song’s accompanying video, clips of YG and Wayne with their friends and family at various points in their lives.

Kaash Paige And 6lack Reminisce On Past Friendships In Their Astronomical ‘Miss My Dawgs’ Video

Kaash Paige and 6lack have dropped the video for their new collaboration, “Miss My Dawgs.”

In the video, directed by Marmo Films, Paige is seen navigating a spacecraft solo. As she walks about the ship, she reminisces on past friendships, however, she knows better than to rekindle them.

6lack is seen on a different planet, finding comfort in his solitude, before he is joined by Paige. Then, the two embrace, knowing that they can trust in each other. Paige and 6lack then hop in the spacecraft and set off to the next destination.

Paige’s second album, The Fall Off, arrives this fall via Def Jam. She detailed The Fall Off in a recent interview with Billboard, Paige detailed the album, noting that it will include pop records, as well as the type of music she’s been wanting to create.

‘The vibe is just kind of just like … when you haven’t dropped your own art in two years, you hear a lot of comments like, “She fell off” or “What’s she doing?” “When’s she dropping music?” And it’s just like… I didn’t fall off,” Paige said. “I just had to get myself ready for what God had prepared for me. I feel as if people don’t allow artists to take the time out to get to know themselves, to get to know the people around them, or to understand what they actually want to do and what kind of sound they want to make.”

Kaash Paige And 6lack Refuse To Look Back On Their New Song, ‘Miss My Dawgs’

Kaash Paige and 6lack have reunited, but their musical chemistry on their latest collab creates a feeling of distance. On their latest, “Miss My Dawgs,” the two long to reconnect with people from their individual pasts, however, for their own well-being, they choose not to.

Paige opens the song, with her signature soft, sweet vocals, singing, “Switching sides on me / Thought you were the homie / But I’d rather be, I’d rather be lonely.” She laments this loss briefly, before she takes “a shot for [her] real team.”

6lack hops in with the second verse, reflecting on how he’s cut certain people out of his life.

“They can’t fit the picture, so I cut them out the frame,” he sings without any regret.

“’Miss My Dawgs’ is just about missing family members, or missing long-lost friends that you know you can’t hang out with anymore,” said Paige in a statement, “but it can go for anything. I remember sitting on my homie’s balcony in Miami, drinking shroom tea and I came up with the idea and just kept singing it and was like ‘Man I gotta make this song tomorrow.’ I went to the studio recorded it, left a verse open, and sent it straight to 6lack.”
