Lauren London’s 7 Best Films

Embarking on a journey through the chapters of Lauren London’s movie career, one cannot help but be captivated by the sheer range of characters she’s brought to life. From her breakout role that etched her into the cultural lexicon to the more mature performances that showcased her growth as an artist, London has crafted a filmography that resonates with authenticity.

Her on-screen portrayals are imbued with an emotional gravity that pulls audiences into the narrative, making each character’s joy and pain palpably felt. As we spotlight seven standout performances, we not only celebrate London’s craft but also the indelible mark she leaves on every story told. Here’s an ode to the roles that have defined London’s career thus far.

ATL (2006)

Lauren London’s debut as New-New in ATL balances youthful spontaneity with a poignant complexity. It offered a multi-dimensional glimpse into Atlanta’s skate culture through the lens of her character’s hidden depths. Her interplay with co-star Tip “T.I.” Harris radiates authenticity, anchoring the film’s romantic thread and elevating the story’s exploration of identity and dreams within the rich tapestry of Southern adolescence. London’s nuanced performance not only captures the spirit of her character but also cements her place as a memorable figure in the coming-of-age cinematic landscape.

I Love You, Beth Cooper (2009)

In I Love You, Beth Cooper, Lauren London transitions from the urban tapestry of ATL to the halls of high school comedy. As Cammy, the quintessential best friend, London delivers a performance that is both humorous and grounded. Though the film navigates a sea of teen comedy tropes, it’s her character’s spark and unwavering loyalty that stand out. London brings a refreshing verve to the role. She offered moments of genuine friendship that cut through the screenplay’s predictability. Her presence on screen, albeit in a supporting role, showcases her adaptability and range. It marked her as an actress capable of adding depth to even the most lighthearted fare.

Madea’s Big Happy Family (2011)

London’s role in Madea’s Big Happy Family punctuates this dramedy with a resonance that extends beyond the expected Madea humor. Amid Tyler Perry’s signature blend of laughter and life lessons, London plays Renee. She’s a character whose personal tribulations weave into the broader tapestry of familial complexities. Her performance encapsulates a young woman grappling with the crossroads of personal desire and family duty.

Further, London’s interaction with the boisterous Madea allows for moments of genuine emotion to shine through the hilarity. It provided a grounded presence in an otherwise over-the-top ensemble. Her contribution to Madea’s Big Happy Family stands out as a testament to her versatility.

This Christmas (2007)

In the holiday film This Christmas, Lauren steps into the role of Melanie ‘Mel’ Whitfield. She brought a touch of grounded realism to the spirited Whitfield family festivities. Her character navigates the complexities of young love and family dynamics, encapsulating the bittersweet tang of coming-of-age amidst holiday cheer. With her nuanced performance, London adds depth to the ensemble cast. She delivered a portrayal that captures the intricacies of familial bonds and the sometimes painful process of growing up and finding one’s place at the family table. Her interactions, particularly with on-screen love interest Chris Brown, exude a palpable chemistry that enriches the film’s tapestry of relationships.

Without Remorse (2021)

In Without Remorse, London takes on a poignant role that leaves a lasting impact on the film’s narrative. It also drives the emotional journey of its lead character, John Clark, played by Michael B. Jordan. London’s character, Pam Clark, is the emotional linchpin for Jordan’s vengeful crusade. Her presence resonating throughout the story even in her absence.

Her performance, brimming with warmth and a profound sense of connection, catalyzes the film’s exploration of loss, justice, and the haunting effects of grief. London delivers her role with a heart-rending authenticity that underscores the film’s darker themes and fuels the protagonist’s depth of motivation. Through Without Remorse, London showcases her skill in crafting a memorable character whose influence permeates the entire film, embodying the narrative’s emotional core with grace and intensity.

The Perfect Match (2016)

In The Perfect Match, Lauren London is submerged in the swirling world of romantic comedies, a genre that requires a deft touch to balance the light-hearted with the poignant. Portraying Ginger, a woman entangled in the film’s tapestry of love and relationships, she offers a refreshing take on the best friend archetype. Her character is a catalyst for humor and insight, propelling the narrative forward with spirited dialogue and actions that are a vital counterbalance to the protagonist’s journey. Ginger’s dynamic presence in the ensemble allows London to showcase a blend of comedic timing and emotional depth.

You People (2023)

You People, a film that weaves comedy and societal commentary into its narrative, showcases Lauren London’s versatility as an actress. Her character navigates the nuances of interracial relationships, confronting both the humorous and complex facets of cultural fusion. London’s performance is marked by her deft ability to balance the light-hearted banter with a sincere portrayal of someone grappling with identity and societal expectations. Her presence on screen is both vibrant and poignant, ensuring her character’s perspective is conveyed with both fun and depth, contributing to the film’s broader discourse on finding common ground amidst diversity.

A post shared by Summer Walker (@summerssoclean)

Before making it big, from 2016 to 2018, she had a small cleaning business. With an entrepreneurial spirit and a hustle mentality, Walker juggled her singing passion alongside her full-time cleaning service called Summer So Clean. Her enterprise, complete with an Instagram account @summersoclean, offered services for commercial and residential properties, including laundry, closet organization, bathroom scrubbing, and refrigerator cleaning, according to the page’s Instagram bio.

Even though she now sells out shows and is on stage all the time, she still has fond memories of the scents of cleaning products and the solitude of her past career. It’s incredible to think that in less than two years, she transitioned from cleaning to singing, and although she’s found fame and fortune in music, her cleaning days are a memory she holds dear.

Summer Walker wears her heart on her sleeve, sharing her ongoing battle with social anxiety with a level of honesty that sets her apart. Notably, this aspect of her life rarely surfaces in her music, making her transparency all the more special. This authenticity defies the industry’s conventional path to stardom. From tour cancellations to moments of uncertainty about the trajectory of her music career and an intentional avoidance of high-profile interviews, she charts her course.

She even took to Instagram after one of her nerve-racking performances and said she is “too real for this industry” and “y’all can have the music & ima just head out.” Even her live performances bear witness to her unique journey. 7 Holiday Movies To Watch On Netflix In November

The end of the year means the arrival of some of our favorite holidays. It’s all the perfect time to snuggle up with loved ones and catch some great television. Moreover, with several streaming platforms now available, viewers are often spoiled for choice. The holiday movies on Netflix, in particular, range from bitter-sweet Thanksgiving narratives to the various Christmas stories around. To help you enjoy the festivities better this month, we have curated a list of some Netflix movies that will have you glued to your screen as the holidays continue.

A Madea Homecoming (2022)

A Madea Homecoming is the latest film in Tyler Perry’s Madea series. Its plot centers around Madea’s family coming together to celebrate Madea’s great-grandson’s graduation. However, the family festivities tend to be slowed down by things from the past that the characters have to deal with.  A Madea Homecoming is a great comfort film to watch with the family, especially after the long Thanksgiving cooking and dinner. In usual Madea fashion, Tyler Perry embodies an aged matriarch with strong family values and a no-nonsense, but kind approach to things.

Holiday in the Wild (2019)

Holiday in the Wild sees a woman whose husband has just called off her marriage go to Zambia on a solo honeymoon. Instead of going on her safari as planned, she meets a pilot who introduces her to elephant conservation. And just like that, a solo Christmas holiday turns into an adventure filled with elephants and a potential new partner.

The Holiday Calendar (2018)

The Holiday Calendar is not just a suitable choice for Netflix holiday movies, but it’s also a wholesome love story. The movie follows the Christmas holiday of a struggling photographer named Abby Sutton, played by Kat Graham. Abby’s life becomes a little more exciting when her grandfather hands her an antique holiday advent calendar that can supposedly predict Abby’s love life. She eventually breezes through the holiday, based on the calendar’s predictions. Also, as a result of the different men she encounters, Abby experiences the ups and downs of finding love. In the process, she also becomes more in tune with herself and falls in love with her photography again.

Falling for Christmas (2022)

In Falling for Christmas, a rich heiress, Sierra Belmont (Lindsay Lohan), gets into an accident and gets lost. She’s found by Jake Russell (Chord Overstreet), a widower who houses and takes care of her. Like in many holiday movies, the two main characters develop feelings for each other and must navigate their feelings through the holidays. Because of the accident, Sierra also can’t remember who she is. She subsequently experiences life as a normal person for the first time, and this changes her perception of everything. Falling for Christmas is not just a movie about the holidays and love but also about self-discovery.

Holiday Rush (2019)

Holiday Rush sees a widowed father lose his job just before Christmas. Rashon “Rush” Williams has had a good job for a while and has created a comfortable life for his four children. However, he now has to reconsider his choices. As the family goes through a phase of discomfort because of the limited means, they have to stay together, now more than ever. Holiday Rush is a story of tenacity and a man’s determination to give his family the best during the holidays. Moreover, the underlying story of sticking with family through thick and thin is quite marvelous. Overall, it is definitely one of the best movies to catch on Netflix, especially during the holidays.

Holidate (2020)

Holidate centers around the life of a single young woman, Sloane Benson (Emma Roberts). The holidays are approaching, and she’s under pressure from her family to find a long-term partner. That’s when she meets Jackson, a young man who is in the same boat. They agree to date for a year, but just to avoid pressure from their families. Sloane and Jackson’s relationship is non-sexual and non-committal, but feelings seem to creep, and they must now rethink their “holidate.”

Let it Snow (2019)

Let it Snow documents a snowstorm and how it changes the lives of the people in a small town forever. These changes happen around a small eatery central to the town, where characters find themselves during the storm. Let it Snow is a representation of how redefining holidays can be, as they offer the chance to rediscover one’s self and gain new experiences. Also about high school seniors, Let it Snow explores young love and its effect on people whose personalities are still forming. With an ensemble cast of young talents, it is one of the more interesting Netflix holiday movies tailored to teens and young adults.

5 Y2K Style Sneakers That Dominated 2023

Y2K is not just a term for what some felt would be the end of the world at the turn of the millennium. In fact, the term is now used to describe the fashion aesthetics that came with the early 2000s. Overall, this style has come back into fashion, and it has led to some pretty incredible sneakers. Today, we are looking at five of the Y2K sneaker styles that ultimately dominated the last 11 months. These shoes could very well be perfect for your Holiday shopping.

Adidas Samba OG “White/Black”

Firstly, we have the Adidas Samba OG. Overall, this is a fantastic shoe for numerous reasons. It has that simple Samba silhouette to it. Furthermore, the color scheme is pretty simple as it is mostly white with black stripes. During the 2000s, this kind of shoe was everywhere, and even today, it remains a staple of any sneaker wardrobe. You truly cannot go wrong with these.

Asics Gel 1130 “Canyon”

Secondly, you really cannot mention Y2K without also talking about how almost everything had some sort of chrome element to it. The Asics Gel 1130 is already a dope runner that has that turn-of-the-millennium feel to it. However, the “Canyon” color scheme pushes that aesthetic further thanks to the chrome overlays on top of a neutral base. These will make you feel nostalgic, while also making you stand out in a crowd.

Nike SB Dunk Low “White Gum”

Subsequently, we get into a shoe that has made a huge resurgence over the last few years. Of course, we are talking about the Nike SB Dunk Low. Beyond just Y2K, this has always been a phenomenal model. However, the white leather upper, black Nike swoosh and gum outsole come together phenomenally well. Gum soles are also coming back in a big way, which makes this a banger of a sneaker.

New Balance 2002RD “Grey”

Next up on the list we have this gorgeous all-grey version of the New Balance 2002RD. This is a shoe that goes heavy on the dark grey aesthetic. However, it does so in a way that is unique. There is a premium quality to the sneaker. Additionally, New Balance has been increasing its profile as of late, and it has led to some fantastic offerings. With this model, you will definitely be standing out amongst others going for the NB look.

To kick off November and this year’s Thanksgiving season, we highlight some standout hip hop albums from 2023 that we’re grateful for. These selections have been in rotation all year long, holding significant replay value and leaving lasting impressions on hip hop as a whole. Here are 7 of the best rap albums of 2023, listed in no particular order. Take a look at the albums below.

Travis ScottUtopia

This year, Travis Scott made his grand return to music following the tragic events at the 2021 Astroworld Festival. It had also been five years since his last album of the same name, his most significant release to date. A highly anticipated release, Utopia exceeded expectations, resulting in arguably Travis Scott’s best work since Rodeo. With cinematic production and an all-star guestlist, the album plays like a blockbuster film. While Utopia’s numerous high-profile features help create an unforgettable listening experience, Travis Scott shines bright. He raps some of his best verses in recent memory. Utopia’s tracklist is unpredictable and adventurous as Travis explores the future of his sound.

Nas – Magic 2

Last year, Nas concluded his Hit-Boy-produced King’s Disease trilogy with a bang. This year, the dynamic duo did the same with their Magic album series. They started with Magic 2, a concise listen that saw Hit-Boy push Nas out of his comfort zone. The production was significantly more modern than the first Magic, but its sequel was still built around the sound they had built together. While Magic 2 might not be Nas and Hit-Boy’s greatest work, they raised the bar incredibly high for themselves and made one of 2023’s best rap albums. Even more impressive is that Magic 2 is a great album on its own merit but is not even the best Nas and Hit-Boy release of the year.

Nas – Magic 3

Just a few months later, Nas and Hit-Boy returned with Magic 3. It celebrated their historic six-album run and was the perfect end to the Magic trilogy. Compared to Magic 2, Nas and Hit-Boy’s 6th collaborative album restored the feeling of the first Magic. It is rooted in classic boom-bap production and chopped loops. In addition to continuing their reign, Nas also maintained his skills as a storyteller with the two-part “Based on True Events.” With Magic 3, Nas and Hit-Boy ended their unprecedented series of full-length releases on the ultimate high note.

J Hus – Beautiful And Brutal Yard

This year saw the release of J Hus’s highly-anticipated third studio album, Beautiful and Brutal Yard. While the afroswing pioneer’s latest album did not include any production from frequent collaborator Jae5, it did not disappoint in the slightest. Hus provides the infectious melodies he is known for, but Beautiful and Brutal Yard is significantly more rap-driven than his previous albums.

Light-hearted party starters like “Who Told You” with Drake and “Palm Tree” see J Hus at his most playful with his distinctive lexicon of slang terms. Bangers like “Cream” and “Bim Bim” show him at his most menacing. With his latest album, J Hus builds on the genre he helped pioneer while exploring the vast sounds of the UK scene. After a long wait, we are certainly grateful for some new J Hus.

Killer MikeMICHAEL

One rapper whose artistry shined bright throughout 2023 was none other than Killer Mike. This year, he released his first solo album in 11 years, following 2012’s R.A.P. Music and his work with El-P as Run The Jewels. The aptly titled MICHAEL is Killer Mike’s most personal work to date as he unveils the deeper layers of his mind and upbringing. Deviating from the abrasive Run The Jewels sound, the Atlanta native’s latest solo record is uniquely southern with its blend of hip hop, soul, and gospel.

While Killer Mike is more candid than ever on the album’s most touching moments, MICHAEL still contains the hard-hitting bangers he is known for. For the past ten years, Killer Mike has been making an impact as a member of Run The Jewels, but his latest solo effort marks a new phase in his career. MICHAEL is his most transparent work yet and one of the best rap albums of 2023.

Avelino – God Save The Streets

Avelino has been making waves in the UK hip hop scene for a long time without releasing a proper studio album. Despite that, he is widely respected by British greats like Stormzy, Dave, and his mentor, Wretch 32. After almost a decade of mixtapes and earth-shattering freestyles, the Tottenham, London wordsmith’s long-awaited debut arrived this year. God Save The Streets is the album we had been waiting for as Avelino reaches his full potential. He finally captures his endlessly creative wordplay, translating into a concise body of work executive produced by Wretch 32 and overseen by Fraser T. Smith.

With a Sex Pistols-inspired album title and cover, God Save The Streets sees Avelino both proud and concerned for his home city as he declares, “Rap is the new punk.” The album is filled with cautionary tales of the “Vicious Cycle” of violence and poverty, as well as deep moments of reflection and gratitude like “Acceptance.” A UK rap masterpiece that has seemingly gone under the radar for American listeners, Avelino’s career-defining debut is undoubtedly one of 2023’s best hip hop releases.

Earl Sweatshirt & The Alchemist – Voir Dire

A full-length collaboration between Earl Sweatshirt and The Alchemist is an underground hip hop fan’s dream. After years of speculation and a supposed YouTube-only release under unknown aliases, Voir Dire has come to fruition. The two have been more consistent than ever, especially The Alchemist, as he has produced eight collaborative projects with just as many rappers. Voir Dire is some of the best work that both Earl Sweatshirt and The Alchemist have dropped yet, which speaks volumes considering the quality of their previous works.

Earl spits some of his sharpest lyrics, while Alchemist provides some of his most enchanting loops. Between the original Gala Music release and the revised tracklist on streaming platforms, Earl and Al did not disappoint. A dream combination, Voir Dire is everything that fans could have wanted from the long-fantasized album. For that reason, we could not be more grateful to the two for delivering one of the best rap albums of 2023.

Katt Williams’ 7 Most Hilarious Movies

Katt Williams is a more-than-familiar name in comedy. While he is best known for his stand-up comedy specials, Williams has also appeared in several films over the years. Even though many of these movies were not critical darlings, they often turn out to be comedy gold, and at the heart of the biggest jokes is none other than Katt.

Overall, Katt Williams is a comedy icon. His unique and deeply hilarious comedic style has also endeared him to fans worldwide. His signature style is also a Halloween costume favorite, and this year, Winnie Harlow brought one of his looks to life. Williams has built a filmography containing comedic gems that have kept laughter ringing through households for two decades. Here are seven of the most hilarious movies the actor has starred in so far, in no particular order.

7. Epic Movie (2007)

Epic Movie is a parody film that relies heavily on spoofing popular culture and movie trends. It features an ensemble cast, including Kal Penn, Jayma Mays, Adam Campbell, and Jennifer Coolidge. Williams lends his voice to star as a satirized version of Harry Beaver, a non-human character from The Chronicles of Narnia. Characters from Harry Potter, The Pirates of the Caribbean, and X-Men, among others, are also parodied. Admittedly, the humor is crude, and the movie lacks much originality, but anyone with a sense of silly humor will definitely enjoy Epic Movie.

6. The Perfect Holiday (2007)

The Perfect Holiday is a romantic comedy film directed by Lance Rivera. The movie stars Gabrielle Union, Morris Chestnut, and Terrence Howard, with Katt Williams in a supporting role. The Perfect Holiday revolves around Nancy Taylor (played by Union), a loving but overworked single mother of three children. The film tells how she finds love again at Christmastime. Williams portrays Delicious, the manager of Nancy’s rapper ex-husband J-Jizzy (played by Charlie Murphy). In general, Williams’ scenes in the movie are sparse, but they are memorable and funny, as expected of the actor.

5. The Obama Effect (2012)

The Obama Effect centers on the story of a man named John Thomas (played by Charles S. Dutton). He is an avid supporter of Barack Obama during his 2008 presidential campaign. Consequently, John becomes deeply inspired by Obama’s message of hope and change. He soon decides to channel his enthusiasm into promoting Obama’s candidacy. Katt Williams portrays a comical character named MLK in the movie. Meagan Good, Glynn Turman, and Reggie Brown also star in supporting roles.

4. School Dance (2014)

School Dance is a musical comedy-drama film directed by Nick Cannon. The film’s central character is Jason Jackson (played by Bobb’e J. Thompson). He is a high school student who dreams of joining an elite dance crew. However, he is often bullied and faces several other challenges, including disapproval from his mother (played by Luenell). As the story unfolds, Jason must find the strength to showcase his talent, overcome his fears, and stand up to his bullies. Katt Williams portrays Darren, one of his most hilarious characters ever, sure to leave many viewers in stitches. School Dance would be an entertaining watch for audiences interested in a blend of unserious teen comedies as well as dance films.

3. Father Figures (2017)

Father Figures stars Owen Wilson and Ed Helms as twin brothers Kyle and Peter Reynolds. The story follows their journey to find their biological father after discovering that their mother had been dishonest about his identity. Their quest leads them to a series of eccentric and sometimes questionable characters who may or may not be their father. Along the way, they happen upon Katt Williams’ character, a nameless hitchhiker whom they befriend. Despite how brief his appearance is, Williams’ character is one of the funniest in the film. Father Figures received generally negative reviews upon its release, but who could deny the laugh-out-loud wiles of Katt Williams?

2. Friday After Next (2002)

Friday After Next is notable for being the first film Williams starred in. This movie is the third installment in the Friday stoner comedy film franchise. It follows the misadventures of two cousins, Craig, portrayed by Ice Cube, and Day-Day, played by Mike Epps. Throughout the film, they encounter an array of humorous situations. They also interact with colorful personalities, including Damon Pearly (Terry Crews) and Money Mike (Katt Williams). In summary, Friday After Next is a comedy film that combines holiday cheer with the signature humor of the Friday series. It offers an entertaining and humorous look at the challenges faced by Craig and Day-Day during the Christmas season.

1. First Sunday (2008)

This crime-comedy film stars Ice Cube, Tracy Morgan, and Katt Williams in lead roles. Durrell (Ice Cube) and Lee John (Tracy Morgan) are best friends struggling to make ends meet. Facing financial hardship and desperate to solve their problems, they hatch a plan to rob a local church’s safe. The two believe the safe contains a significant amount of cash and intend to steal enough of it to pay off their debts.

However, their heist goes awry when they discover the money has already been stolen. Williams’ character, Ricky, is the church’s choirmaster and arguably the funniest personality in the entire film. Despite the mixed critical reception, First Sunday was a box office hit. It also found its target audience and was greatly appreciated for its top-notch comedy. In addition, the movie delivers a message of hope, redemption, and the transformative power of faith and friendship.
