HER’s Lights On 2023 Festival Has Been Canceled A Month Before It Was Scheduled To Take Place

Although live entertainment has been back for two years, the industry is still being hampered by logistical issues, leading to the cancellations of a number of festivals this year, including Made In America, Kid Cudi’s Moon Man’s Landing, and Rolling Loud New York, among others.

The latest event to suffer this fate is the third edition of HER’s Lights On Festival, which has been canceled just one month before it was due to return to Mountain View, California’s Shoreline Amphitheatre. The festival, which was to have been headlined by Jazmine Sullivan and supported by Alina Baraz, Don Toliver, PartyNextDoor, Smino, and Syd in addition to rising Bay Area stars like Rexx Life Raj and Symba, was scheduled for September 16-17.

In a statement sent to the San Francisco Chronicle, a representative of the festival wrote, “Due to unforeseen circumstances, Lights On Festival will not take place this year. We sincerely appreciate and value the Lights On Festival community and look forward to returning with an incredible experience in 2024.” Refunds are expected to be processed automatically.

Lights On was previously held at the Concord Pavilion in 2019 and 2021, postponed in 2020, and was not held in 2022. It moved to the larger Shoreline Amphitheater this year to accommodate a larger fan turnout.

HER Announced The Return Of Her Lights On Festival For 2023 With Jazmine Sullivan As A Headliner

HER‘s Lights On Festival, which she launched in her native Bay Area in 2021 with co-headliner Erykah Badu before expanding to Brooklyn with Maxwell, is coming back for another round of soulful performances this September in Mountain View, California. This time, she’ll be accompanied as co-headliner by Jazmine Sullivan, with support from PartyNextDoor, Don Toliver, Alina Baraz, Toosii, Smino, and Syd, in addition to many more breakout artists in hip-hop and R&B.

The Lights On Fest is billed for the weekend of September 16-17 at Shoreline Festival Grounds in Mountain View. The presale for tickets begins this Thursday, June 28, at 12 pm, while the general sale begins on Friday at 12. You can get more information at LightsOnFest.com.

While some fans thought HER was in danger of becoming oversaturated, what with her numerous Grammys, Oscars, and Emmys — she’s only a Tony Award away from an EGOT — she has kept a low profile early this year after declaring that she wanted “people to get to know the person behind [the HER persona]” — a process that drew plenty of positive attention. Making a comeback with her well-received festival will help with that, as will her upcoming role in the musical remake of The Color Purple dropping later this year.

H.E.R. Announced The Day-To-Day Schedule For Her Lights On Festival

The impressive rise of H.E.R. is only continuing to grow this year, following the release of her excellent Back Of My Mind album, and the second year of her Lights On festival. Started in 2019 but forced to skip a year during 2020 as most events did due to the threat of COVID-19, the female-owned and curated event is the first of its kind.

With an emphasis on R&B, the event showcases not just H.E.R. herself, but a wide variety of other friends and peers. And the whole thing leans decidedly female, another plus in this still completely male-dominated festival lineup. Today, the R&B breakout star announced the day-to-day lineup for September fest, so fans can plan out their own schedules accordingly. Check out the lineup below, with full lists of all the artists involved for each day below that, and keep an eye out for the set times, which are definitely going to be dropping soon.
