DDG’s New ‘9 Lives’ Video Revisits His Past Alongside Polo G And NLE Choppa

DDG is celebrating the arrival of It’s Not Me It’s You on Friday (September 30) by recounting his struggle to get here. The Michigan-bred rapper simultaneously dropped the music video for “9 Lives,” the project’s opening track, featuring NLE Choppa And Polo G.

Directed by Michael Daniel, the four-minute visual finds DDG revisiting his old neighborhood, with a young boy presumably serving as a younger DDG — filling up a pot with water in the kitchen, boiling it on the stove to use for a bath. “But for my family, that’s alright, I’m doing anything,” present-day DDG raps, watching the boy boxing outside while his parents argue about bills inside.

NLE performs his verse from a church pew, mentioning a Percocet problem in 2019, and Polo G provides his insight from the block at night.

It’s Not Me It’s You follows the footsteps of DDG’s Epic Records debut album Valedictorian from November 2019. In between, DDG was named to the 2021 XXL Freshman Class last June and dropped his Die 4 Respect mixtape.

DDG has previously shared It’s Not Me It’s You singles “If I Want You” with real-life girlfriend Halle Bailey including a steamy music video, “Stay In My Circle,” “Storyteller,” and “Elon Musk” featuring Gunna. The project’s full tracklist was revealed last week. Check it below.

DDG Unloads “It’s Not Me It’s You” With Gunna, NLE Choppa & More

DDG returns with his sophomore effort It’s Not Me It’s You, giving fans a deeper look into the highs and lows of his personal and professional life. On the 12-track album, the 24-year old tackles mature topics as he navigates love, success and a sprinkle of toxicity throughout the record. 

DDG tapped some of hip hop’s most polarizing talents for INMIY, including Kevin Gates for track number eight entitled, “Love Myself”— and as well as NLE Choppa and Polo G on the album’s opening track, “9 Lives.” Last month, the Michigan native released  his single “If I Want You,” which features his girlfriend Halle Bailey as his leading lady. 

Earlier this year, he dropped “Elon Musk” featuring Gunna, giving fans a taste of what they can expect from the album. The young rapper/boxer has been on the up and up as far as his music career goes. On a personal level, DDG recently celebrated his charges being dropped after he was arrested in June for driving his Lamborghini erratically.

DDG has been actively honing his boxing skills in the squared circle, going so far as to compare himself to Floyd Mayweather, and enjoying a life of love with his girlfriend Halle Bailey, one half of the pop duo Chloe x Halle. The 24-year-old is now looking to bring the hits and romance musically next Friday (September 30) as he gears up for his next project titled It’s Not Me It’s You. The rapper has assembled quite a cast of features to get the job done.

The 12-track effort will include appearances from Gunna, Polo G, Kevin Gates, NLE Choppa, and Babyface Ray. The Gunna-assisted “Elon Musk” has already been shared with the world, in addition to “If I Want You,” “Stay In My Circle,” and “Storyteller.” Thus, fans will be treated to eight completely new tracks next week. “If I Want You” was especially notable as the video featured DDG getting steamy with his lady, Halle Bailey.

As for 2022, DDG also appeared on Blueface’s “Meat This,” Baby Rich’s “Roll Tide,” and “Worth It” from Traetwothree’s Out The District. With momentum heading into It’s Not Me It’s You, and no shortage of confidence, time will tell if the tracks hit like the Mayweather jabs DDG aspires to possess.
