Of all the people who were insulted — directly or indirectly — by DaBaby’s Rolling Loud claims that HIV/AIDS “kills you in two or three weeks” and his admonishment about performing fellatio in the festival’s parking lots, one artist who seems to have taken an amused view of the situation is Brockhampton’s Kevin Abstract. Rather than reaching out to inform DaBaby why his statements were offensive and incorrect like Sir Elton John and Madonna, he laughed off the Charlotte rapper’s words by claiming to have done exactly what DaBaby disapproved in his call to action.
While Abstract’s group, Brockhampton, was scheduled to perform at Lollapalooza on Sunday — the same day as DaBaby — the Texan rapper whiled the time away on Twitter, joking about the coincidence that put the two acts in such close proximity. Of course, it could have been an uncomfortable situation, as Abstract is openly gay and has rapped about sexual encounters with men in his lyrics, which he also referenced on Twitter.

However, rather than seeking out a confrontation, Abstract instead quipped, “JUS SUCKED A HUGE D*CK IN [THE] PARKING LOT,” directly referencing DaBaby’s earlier comments and showing he wasn’t about to let those comments deter him from being himself.

Ultimately, the Lollapalooza organizers resolved the dilemma themselves, removing DaBaby from the lineup and replacing him with G Herbo and Young Thug. Meanwhile, DaBaby continues to see the fallout from his comments (and his defiance toward the backlash they incurred), as Governor’s Ball also removed him from the lineup this week.
The trainwreck DaBaby caused at Rolling Loud two weekends ago continues as he gets removed from another festival lineup. This time, it’s New York’s Governor’s Ball, which issued a statement via social media that DaBaby will no longer be performing on Friday night ahead of Billie Eilish.

Yesterday, DaBaby was removed from the Sunday night lineup for Chicago’s Lollapalooza and replaced with Young Thug (an iffy selection at best, but at least he knows when to put down the shovel) over the remarks he made from the Rolling Loud stage. During a call to action during that performance, DaBaby told fans to light up their phones if “you didn’t show up today with HIV, AIDS, any of them deadly sexual transmitted diseases that make you die in two or three weeks” and if “you ain’t suck a n****’s dick in the parking lot.”

When he was called out online, he refused to apologize at first, then as the pressure continued, he did so defensively and halfheartedly before defiantly dropping the music video for “Giving What It’s Supposed To Give,” in which the lyrics seemingly echo his Rolling Loud statements (“we like AIDS, I’m on your ass”) despite being recorded before the Rolling Loud performance.
As a result, DaBaby has been censured by “Levitating” collaborator Dua Lipa, GLAAD, pop icons Sir Elton John and Madonna, and Questlove, as well as losing his deal with Boohooman.

The homophobic rant DaBaby delivered during last weekend’s Rolling Loud festival in Miami was met with plenty of backlash. His rant — which also targeted people with HIV/AIDS — earned him criticism from Madonna, Dua Lipa, Elton John, Questlove, and more, while BoohooMan terminated their partnership with him. Now, his actions have impacted one of his bigger gigs.

On Sunday, Lollapalooza announced that DaBaby would no longer perform at the show, just a half-hour before the final day of the festival began. “Lollapalooza was founded on diversity, inclusivity, respect, and love,” read a statement put out by the festival. “With that in mind, DaBaby will no longer be performing at Grant Park tonight.” The festival also announced that Young Thug will take the show’s 9 p.m. slot, while G Herbo will step into the 4 p.m. slot to accommodate the gap in their scheduling.
While the move from Lollapalooza is a credible one, it should be noted that at least one other scheduled performer has made public statements that don’t exactly comply with “diversity, inclusivity, respect, and love.” Last year, Young Thug — who’s still on the line-up — responded to controversial comments Boosie Badazz made about Dwayne Wade and Gabrielle Union’s trans daughter. But he seemed to be more on Boosie’s side. “All I wanna say to dwade son is ‘GOD DONT MAKE MISTAKES’ but hey live your true self,” he wrote in a tweet. The rapper later deleted the message.

DaBaby may see himself as the victim of a witch hunt this week after his call to action at Rolling Loud was “taken out of context,” but that hasn’t stopped his peers in the music business from doing their best to educate him on why his comments were wrong.
His “Levitating” collaborator Dua Lipa was “surprised and horrified” while some radio stations have taken to playing the rap-less version of the song, Questlove called him out only to have DaBaby lie in the whole internet’s face about knowing who he is, and even Sir Elton John chimed in to try to provide some clearly much-needed education on HIV/AIDS.
In the spirit of that education, the latest voice to join the chorus belongs to another pop icon, Madonna, who posted her own response to Instagram in an effort to inform the North Carolina rapper why his remark about HIV/AIDS killing people in “two to three weeks” was wildly off the mark.
“A message to DaBaby,” she wrote. “If you’re going to make hateful remarks to the LGBTQ+ community about HIV/AIDS then know your facts.” She provided some of those facts, which you can read below.
After decades of hard won scientific research, there are life saving medicines available to children born with HIV, to people who contract HIV through blood transfusions, dirty needles, or exchange of bodily fluids.
These new [antiretroviral drugs] can keep a person with AIDS alive for the rest of their lives!!! AIDS is not transmitted by standing next to someone in a crowd. I want to put my cellphone lighter up and pray for your ignorance. No one dies of AIDS in 2 or 3 weeks anymore. Thank God.
And your sexist remarks about Ladies whose pussies need to smell like water only encourage more discrimination against women who fight daily against the oppression of living under the constraints of the Male Gaze.
People like you are the reason we are still living in a world divided by fear. All Human beings should be treated with dignity and respect regardless of race, gender, sexual preference or religious beliefs. AMEN.
While the odds DaBaby knows (or cares) who Madonna is are about the same as the ones for him knowing Elton John or Questlove, considering his adverse reaction to Quest’s message, he probably won’t take hers any better.
