MC Lyte Claims Joe Biden’s LL Cool J Mishap Was Only “A Mistake”

Last week, Joe Biden honored LL Cool J and MC Lyte at the Congressional Black Caucus Phoenix Awards. Unfortunately, the honor was overshadowed when Biden fumbled LL Cool J’s name. “Two of the great artists of our time representing the groundbreaking legacy of Hip-Hop in America, LL J Cool J,” the U.S. President said. “By the way that boy — that man’s got biceps bigger than my thighs,” he added.

The clip managed to spark some controversy, with some noting the connotations surrounding the term “boy.” MC Lyte has now come to Biden’s defense, however, claiming that the moment was nothing more than a simple mistake. “In regard to the recent occurrence during the Congressional Black Caucus Phoenix Awards,” she began on Instagram. “While I do not condone any disrespect of any kind, especially to a Black man we all love and hold in high regard, I must say, I was actually there and I do not believe President Biden’s comments were mal- intended, he made a mistake. A mistake I’m sure he regrets.

MC Lyte Comes To Biden’s Defense

“One of my most fond memories is that of being in the presence of my elders when they make a mistake with a name, sometimes even my own. I pray that we will pay more attention to the historic importance of this moment than the errors that were made in it.” She went on to call for people to turn their attention to the fact that the White House is acknowledging hip hop.

“What we should all spend time focusing on is this: for the first time in history, both the President and Vice President of the United States, together, have acknowledged, embraced and publicly shown their love and appreciation for a monumental achievement in Hip Hop,” she explained. “Let’s try to keep showing each other love and grace . . . Long live Hip Hop!” What do you think of MC Lyte’s response? Share your thoughts in the comments section, and keep an eye on HNHH for more news.

Joe Biden Calls LL Cool J “Boy” During Award Ceremony: Watch

President Joe Biden suffered something of a verbal gaffe this weekend while speaking at the Congressional Black Caucus Annual Legislative Conference. Biden was presenting the Phoenix Award to LL Cool J and MC Lyle when the incident occurred. “Two of the great artists of our time representing the groundbreaking legacy of Hip-Hop in America, LL J Cool J, uh…By the way that boy — that man’s got biceps bigger than my thighs.” While the moment got a laugh from the audience, it has been jumped on by Biden’s political opponents.

Contrary to the reporting of other outlets, the moment did not “blow up” on X, formerly Twitter. Instead, the clip was reposted by an official Republican Twitter account. In the comments of that video, Republicans referred to Biden and the Democrats as the “party of slavery and Jim Crow laws” and lamented that the Black community continues to back the party. However, the incident, while egregious, was quickly lost amid various other right-wing targets, including a recent speech Biden gave about gun control this week.

Biden And Trump Even In Latest Polls

However, a new poll from NBC has shown that both parties have reason to be concerned about the upcoming Presidential election in 2024. 56% of the 1000 people asked disapprove of Biden’s presidency. However, 44% of voters said they felt “very negatively” about Donald Trump, with 54% in total saying they felt negatively about Trump in some fashion. The poll was a bipartisan effort conducted by Republican pollster Bill McInturff and Democrat pollster Jeff Horwitt.

“This survey is a startling flashing red light for an incumbent party,” McInturff said. “Yes, the numbers for Biden aren’t where he needs them to be. But the lens for most voters is still through Donald Trump first,” Horwitt countered. The biggest issues for the two presumptive candidates were age and criminality. 74% of respondents said they had concerns about Biden’s age and health. Meanwhile, 62% said they were concerned about Trump’s ongoing legal troubles. As a result, the head-to-head race sees the pair tied in a hypothetical election with 46% of the vote each.

The Congressional Black Caucus is requesting to meet with the president of “Sesame Street”-themed amusement park, Sesame Place. This comes after a viral video showing a costumed character at the park in Langhorne, Pennsylvania ignoring two young Black girls.

Jodi Brown was there with her daughter (Skylar) and niece (Nylah),as they were rudely dismissed by a Sesame Place employee in character during a parade over a week ago.

In an official statement, the caucus recognizes that Sesame Place has issued an apology over the incident, but that it wants to meet with Park President Cathy Valeriano to discuss future plans of actions and training.

The caucus cited the “gravity of the situation” and the “integral” role “Sesame Street” plays in the lives of young children.

Nationally renowned civil rights and personal injury attorneys Ben Crump and B’Ivory LaMarr have joined the legal teams of the Browns who are outraged by the incident.
