SZA Geeks Out Over Fan-Made Bjork Mashups Of Their Biggest Hits

SZA is absolutely losing her marbles over discovering some fan-made Bjork mashups. According to Uproxx, the Icelandic singer was actually the one to unearth this frankly impressive concoctions. She sent them out on her X account and the St. Louis, Missouri product was in shock, but in a good way. ““I’M SORRY WHAATT?? I BEG UR F***ING PARDON !???”, and “DAAAAAAHHHH”, were her animated responses to learning about these two tracks. “PAGAN BARRYMORE” and “Hunter”/ ”Seek & Destroy” have both been on YouTube for several months to a year. However, its pretty cool that these two respective superstars are reacting to their fans in this manner.

It’s worth noting that SZA is a massive fan of Bjork’s. About two years ago, the SOS hitmaker went onto label her as the G.O.A.T. in her eyes. “I’ve always loved Björk. She’s the GOAT to me. From the way she was beating up reporters to the way she emotes in her music, she’s just the realest b**** alive”.

SZA Is A Bjork Superfan

In that same interview with EW, SZA recalled where her fandom started. “[An] iPod I found had a bunch of music, and [Bjork’s] music was on there. But I had already been listening to it because we did dances to it in high school. I was part of a company called Special Dance, and we did a dance to ‘Jóga’”. Additionally, around the release of her future SOS track “I Hate U”, she tweeted out in 2021 about talking with Bjork and how surreal it was. “Day 6 at number one and I’m texting Bjork rn . Life is as it should be .. sensational… I love you all so much . Please have a fire day”.

In December 2021, SZA posted on X (formerly Twitter), “Day 6 at number one and I’m texting Björk rn. Life is as it should be.. sensational. I love you all so much. Please have a fire day.” Fast forward nearly three years to Wednesday, August 21, and SZA’s day was made by the Icelandic multi-hyphenate again.

Out of seemingly nowhere, Björk posted links to three separate fan-made YouTube mashups of SZA and Björk’s songs: “Hunter”/”Seek & Destroy,” “Pagan”/”Drew Barrymore,” and “All Is Full Of Love”/”Saturn.”

“I’M SORRY WHAATT?? I BEG UR F*CKING PARDON !???” SZA wrote while reposting Björk’s repost of “PAGAN BARRYMORE.” In response to Björk’s post of “Hunter”/”Seek & Destroy,” SZA wrote, “DAAAAAAHHHH.”

Of course, fans immediately took this as an excuse to hypothesize about a hypothetical Björk and SZA collaboration, which would be welcomed with open arms. SZA is about to have more downtime to orchestrate a brainstorming session with Björk, considering SZA posted on X (formerly Twitter) on August 5, “Yesterday was my last show for a while. Finally bout to get my life together thank u God.”

More or less, SZA has been going nonstop since the December 2022 release of SOS, her sophomore LP that dominated multiple Billboard charts, including 10 weeks at No. 1 on the Billboard 200.

Sega Bodega And Shygirl Give Bjork’s ‘Ovule’ A Hypnotic Update

Bjork has shared a new version of one of the standout tracks from her latest album Fossora. “Ovule” had fans abuzz upon the release of Fossora last September. Now, she has given the song a trippy, hypnotic update, with a new beat by Sega Bodega and additional vocals from Shygirl.

In a statement, Bodega described updating the song “as kind of a full circle moment here, for me at least. The three of us had an evening of all listening to music we loved at Shy’s place last year and after absorbing that the remix came together pretty quickly – we like things fast.”

“it has been so nourishing sharing music with shy and sega,” added Bjork in a statement. “soooo honoured to be in their hands !! and in this remix admiring sega exploring chill-bassdrum-gabba and a thrill seeing shy diving into my lyrics and taking it to a new place.”

Shygirl’s vocals give the song a more silky, echoing feel, as she slides on the beat with pure ease, singing of the complexities and nuances of love and the human condition.

“What I’d pay to give you a minute of this / All I feel is bliss when I think of you / What I’d pay to givе you a minute of this / All I feel is bliss when I think of you,” sings Shygirl on one of her verses.

SZA’s Perhaps-Unexpected Pick For ‘GOAT’ Is ‘The Realest B*tch Alive’ For Multiple Reasons

The first lady of Top Dawg Entertainment is having a stellar year. After earning her first No. 1 album on the Billboard charts, singer SZA avoided the sophomore jinx. Earning praises from rap superstar Drake, SOS was a new creative exploration that eventually paid off for the New Jersey native.

The five-year break didn’t deter fans from jumping into the 23-track project. In fact, the hiatus grew their love for the songwriter even fonder. Despite SZA not having the chance to collaborate with Bad Bunny, Frank Ocean, and Billie Eilish, the features that did make the cut, including fan-favorite Phoebe Bridgers, there’s still one artist “PSA” singer might love to join forces with.

Although the singer has publicly declared her love for “About Damn Time” time singer Lizzo on numerous occasions, her musical “GOAT” (greatest of all time) is someone outside the boundaries of genres. During an interview with EW, SZA revealed her GOAT is actually, Björk.

When asked about an interpolation of Björk’s “Hidden Place” appearing in her song “Forgiveless,” SZA replied, “I’ve always loved Björk. She’s the GOAT to me. From the way she was beating up reporters to the way she emotes in her music, she’s just the realest b*tch alive.”

The interviewer, Owen Myers, goes on to ask how SZA discovered Björk’s music, to which she answered, ” [An] iPod I found had a bunch of music, and her music was on there. But I had already been listening to it because we did dances to it in high school. I was part of a company called Special Dance, and we did a dance to ‘Jóga.’”

SZA is undoubtedly a woman of eclectic taste.
