Music business mogul and father to Beyoncé and Solange, Mathew Knowles, is bringing his life story to the big screen. Knowles’ memoir, Racism From The Eyes of a Child, is slated to be adapted into a film.
From Pages To Film
Mathew Knowles has partnered with production company Say Unkel Entertainment to create his 2017 memoir, Racism From The Eyes of a Child, into a feature film and limited series, according to Variety.
The book delves into Knowles’ experiences growing up during the Jim Crow Era in Alabama, highlighting the influence of figures such as Martin Luther King Jr., Albert Turner, and Ralph Abernathy on his upbringing. However, this won’t be Mathew’s first appearance on the big screen, as he was featured in his daughter’s recent film, Renaissance: A Film By Beyoncé.
What’s In The Works?
According to the feature script based on Mathew Knowles’ memoir, it is already complete and ready for the market.
Howard Kazanjian, a producer on the original Star Wars trilogy, will collaborate with Knowles to oversee the film’s creative control. In the film, it’s expected to highlight the first half of the book, which recounts Knowles’ early years and the challenges he faced.
Jada’s ‘Worthy’
The decision to adapt the memoir comes amidst a trend of public figures sharing their personal stories. Actress Jada Pinkett-Smith recently released her memoir, “Worthy,” in which she reflects on her own experiences. As part of her promotion for the book, Pinkett-Smith shared a vintage video of herself and the late Tupac Shakur dancing and lip-syncing to a song by her husband, Will Smith.
