Transformers & The Future Of Anthony Ramos

Ramos’ characters on the stage and screen are usually lighter in nature, and often showcase his chops as an actor. After a successful decade, he’s set his sights on an even more impressive run in the 2020s. Transformers: Rise of the Beasts is one of the year’s most anticipated films. It is set to be released on June 9, in just a few weeks. He will also star in the upcoming Disney Plus miniseries Ironheart as the supervillain Parker Robbins, also known as The Hood.

It’s no surprise that he is enjoying a fine career so far. Besides the hype around Transformers, Anthony Ramos has a reputation for being a delight to work with. His acting talents are equally noteworthy, and these roles are why he’s become a standout in Hollywood.

Hamilton (2020)

Ramos’ widespread success may have kicked off on Broadway, but the stage recording of Hamilton showed how easy it was for the actor’s talents to translate on the big screen. For his role as John Laurens and Philip Hamilton, he received an Emmy Award for Outstanding Actor in a Supporting Role in a Movie. Ramos was a quadruple threat in Hamilton, showcasing his singing, rapping, acting, and dancing abilities and stealing the show whenever he was on screen. Hamilton packs an ensemble cast of performers in its production, from Lin-Manuel Miranda to Leslie Odom, Renée Elise Goldberry, and many more. Ramos surely held his own.

In the Heights (2021)

Ramos again delivered his talents as Usnavi de la Vega in the 2021 musical film, In the Heights. This marked the second time he would take on the part of Usnavi, having portrayed the character in stage versions, both in 2012 and 2018. He received very positive reviews for his performance as a struggling bodega owner. He showed his incredible versatility as an actor, singer, and dancer. Though it didn’t become a commercial success, for his role as Usnavi, Ramos earned a Golden Globe nomination.

She’s Gotta Have It (2017)

In one of his most popular roles so far, Ramos starred in the comedy-drama series, She’s Gotta Have It as the lovable Mars Blackmon. Created by Spike Lee and based on his 1986 film of the same name, She’s Gotta Have It featured DeWanda Wise as Nola Darling, a talented artist who simultaneously dates three lovers. Each of these men brings something different to the table, and the sexually liberated Nola must learn to navigate life and love in Brooklyn. Ramos brought a massive dose of energy and charisma to the series, becoming a standout character and a fan-favorite during the show’s two-season run.

A Star is Born (2018)

Though Ramos only had a minor supporting role in the highly acclaimed musical drama A Star is Born, his character was the catalyst for the entire film’s premise. He starred as Ramon, Ally’s close friend and former coworker who always supports and pushes her to achieve her goals. While Ramos did not show off his musical talents in the film, he did bring his charm to his performance and had amazing chemistry with Lady Gaga in every scene the pair appeared in. A Star is Born is also Ramos’ highest-grossing film in his career so far, earning $436 million against a budget of $36 million. With the buzz around Transformers, Anthony Ramos might have another major box-office success on his hands.

Summer Days, Summer Nights (2018)

In 2018, Ramos starred in a fun indie comedy-drama, Summer Days, Summer Nights. The project is one of his lesser-known works. While it failed to garner much buzz, the indie comedy is a fun watch, led by an ensemble cast of incredible actors. Set in 1983 in Long Island, Summer Days, Summer Nights offers a nostalgic trip to the past and covers a wide range of topics. From lost and found loves, regrets, and other antics plaguing the lives of people in their twenties. The film has a lot of heart, and Ramos’ performance as the delightful Frankie is almost effortlessly charming.
