Is Lil Wayne’s ‘Da Drought 3’ Coming To Streaming?

If we’re being honest, rap music fans are experiencing sample fatigue. Whether it’s an interpolation, instrumentation loop, or vocal modification, most listeners only crave original concepts. However, now sample clearance issues could be keeping one of the classics of the mixtape era from coming to streaming.

Fabian Marasciullo, Lil Wayne’s longtime engineer, started rumors that Lil Wayne‘s Da Drought 3 could be coming to DSPs soon when he uploaded a video to his Instagram Stories with the caption: “A new mix on a classic.” After fans identified the song to be “Ride for My N****s (Sky is the Limit),” which appeared on the project, they were flooded to ask Wayne if he would be taking the Nicki Minaj route by re-releasing the tape for fans to enjoy. Unfortunately, Marasciullo has remained tight-lipped.

Due to the legal headache of getting clearance for the samples used across mixtapes, many might never make it onto a streaming platform’s server. However, thanks to a recently shared clip, a classic from the “Kat Food” rapper could be the exception. So, is Lil Wayne’s Da Drought 3 mixtape coming to streaming?

Da Drought 3, initially released on April 13, 2007, was Wayne’s sixth mixtape overall but the third from the series. Prior to Lil Wayne’s mixtape run, he had already established himself as a consistent hitmaker with Hot Boys on Cash Money Records. However, Mixtape Weezy propelled him to another level of success. But don’t expect any new mixtapes from Lil Wayne. During an interview with The Pivot Podcast on July 11, he told hosts Channing Crowder, Ryan Clark, and Fred Taylor that likely won’t happen again.

“As soon as [the song] drops, those artists call our people, like, ‘Hey, we want that to be a single,’” said Wayne. “They need a [release] date. They’re about to pull that off [of streaming], pay how much you want them to pay for it, and boom, that’s the original new verse. Ain’t no such thing as a remix no more. That’s all that really is, but that’s their new single. We’re about to shoot a video and everything. And that’s what takes the allure of what I was doing with that away from me. Now, I’m approaching it knowing that this might be a single.”

If Da Drought 3 does make it onto streaming, fans old and new will have the chance to revel in Wayne’s lyrical greatest all over again. Take a look at the original tracklist for the two-disc mixtape below.

Chris Brown Shares Telling Message After Selena Gomez VMAs Drama

Let’s be real, what’s an award show without at least a little bit of drama? After a busy NYFW, countless artists and socialites recently made their way to the 2023 MTV Video Music Awards. Nicki Minaj was notably on hosting duty for the evening. She also debuted a new song from her upcoming Pink Friday 2 album that still has the Barbz talking. Another moment pop culture fanatics are still discussing is Selena Gomez’s apparent reaction to hearing Chris Brown’s name called during the event.

The Wizards of Waverly Place actress looked unimpressed, to say the least, in a circulating video of her face when Breezy’s name was read off on the list of nominees for Best R&B Artist. As HipHopDX reports, Gomez initially tweeted, “Who cares, lol,” when the moment first went viral. Since then, she’s also declared on her Instagram Story that she’ll “never be a meme again.”

Chris Brown isn’t Phased by What Went Down at the 2023 VMAs

It’s taken a few days for Brown to chime in on the situation. However, his own IG Story lit up with a telling message ahead of the weekend. “I’M THE GOAT and you know it 😏❤,” the father of three wrote over a black screen. He’s not bothered by the situation, no matter how much trolls want to see a feud break out. Even if the singer’s post wasn’t about Gomez directly, at least we know that his confidence is sky-high stepping into R&B season.

Try as she might to stay out of trouble at the VMAs, Selena Gomez unfortunately still landed at the centre of controversy. Regardless of how people feel about her lack of a poker face, the Disney Channel alum is focusing her energy on making new music and growing her Rare Beauty brand. Read more about her latest single, which is reportedly about her ex, The Weeknd, at the link below. Make sure to check back later for more music/pop culture news updates.

Drake Links Up With Corinna Kopf

Drake is coming to the end of his It’s All a Blur tour. However, there is still plenty of time for him to post up with celebrities of various levels of fame. A recent Instagram post shows that one of the latest famous faces to do this is content creator Corinna Kopf. Kopf was originally part of Tana Mongeau’s crew but has found her own niche, primarily on Instagram. She has 7 million followers on the platform. She also has over 1.2 million subscribers on YouTube. However, she has not uploaded to the platform in over three years.

Obviously, she has still has enough pull to go backstage to hang out with Drake. However, she is far from the most famous face that he has linked up with on the tour. Many people in the comments of the reposted images of her story highlight this. More than a few commenters are questioning just exactly who Corinna Kopf is and how she is able to snag a backstage photo with Drake.

Odell Beckham Jr. Clarifies 2016 Drake Comments

Someone else talking about Drake is his close friend, Odell Beckham Jr. “Well, I think people have a misunderstanding of that. He was actually on tour and I was living there. Everyone was like, ‘Oh, they’re roommates!’ That wasn’t really it,” Beckham Jr. told GQ this week. Previously, the Ravens receiver had spoken on living at Drake’s Calabasas mansion during the 2016 offseason.

However, Beckham Jr. did speak on his long-standing friendship with Drake and how he spent some time linking up with the rapper around Europe. “I actually stayed in London [once] for two or three months with Von Miller. This was back when Drake was on tour, so our home base was London for a little bit of time. It was our offseason, so we went to Norway, Stockholm, Amsterdam, but London was the home base. That was my favorite hotel, actually. The Rosewood, they always take care of me.”

Diddy Explains The Reassigning Rights Process Has Been Ongoing For Years

Over the weekend Diddy released his new album The Love Album: Off The Grid. He’s been teasing the project for weeks and it features a stacked collection of collaborators. The-Dream, Busta Rhymes, Swae Lee, Summer Walker, The Weeknd, 21 Savage, Justin Bieber, Jazmine Sullivan, Ty Dolla $ign, Kehlani, Mary J. Blige, John Legend, and many more appear on the album. The Weeknd’s appearance in particular drew plenty of attention as he announced earlier this year that it was his final ever feature. He appears on the track “Another One Of Me” alongside French Montana and 21 Savage. Savage and The Weeknd have proven a strong pairing after their collaboration with Metro Boomin “Creepin’” became a big hit earlier this year.

Alongside the release of the album, Diddy sat down on The Breakfast Club to discuss a variety of issues. One of those is the process of reassigning publishing rights back to some of his artists. A few weeks ago it was made public that artists like The LOX, Ma$e, The Notorious B.I.G, and more were having the publishing rights to their music given back to themselves or their estates. In the interview, Diddy explains that criticizing the Grammys was what made him first realize that he needed to begin the process of reassigning rights. “I had to look from within,” he explains. Check out the full interview below.

Diddy Explains Reassigning Publishing Rights

In the interview, Diddy explains that he felt giving back publishing rights was “the right thing to do.” He also claims that the actual process itself began two years ago. He says that he signed the papers himself a while ago and everything since then has been legal processes.

Not everybody is impressed by this gesture though. One of Diddy’s former artists Mark Curry found the move to be mostly performative. He pointed out that the publishing rights had very little value now and that the gesture was somewhat meaningless. What do you think about Diddy’s more detailed explanation of the reassigning process? Let us know in the comment section below.

Odell Beckham Jr. Clarifies Comments About Living With Drake

Odell Beckham Jr. has cleared up some confusion that stemmed from comments he made about living with Drake in 2016. “Well, I think people have a misunderstanding of that. Back in 2023, Beckham Jr. is now a Raven after sitting out the 2022 season. He had a fairly quiet game during the Ravens win over the Texans. Beckham Jr. caught two passes for 37 yards. This comes as Lamar Jackson found a new favorite target in rookie Zay Flowers, who caught nine passes for 78 yards in his NFL debut. The Ravens next face the Bengals this weekend.

However, it’s clear that Beckham Jr. has a major soft spot for Drizzy. “That’s my guy right there. That was the first time we really hung out… Just somebody who I’m sure you can relate to. Somebody whose mindset is the same as yours. And they want nothing but success. They want to be the best. We just clicked on a level like that. And this really was the start of a friendship that’ll carry through a lifetime,” Beckham Jr. said of Drake back in 2016.
