Kendrick Lamar Uses New Song To Score Chanel Short Film
Kendrick Lamar and his creative agency with Dave Free, pgLang, are credited with servicing Chanel’s new short film in promotion of the brand’s Spring-Summer 2024 Haute Couture. While Lamar soundtracked the piece with a new song, Free wrote and directed the video. The full film of the Chanel Spring-Summer 2024 Haute Couture show will release on Tuesday, January 23.
Sharing the promotional clip on Instagram, Saturday, Free wrote: “At the invitation of Virginie Viard, Kendrick Lamar and Dave Free meet the world of CHANEL Haute Couture for the first time, bringing to life a story about time and transmission. Actress and House ambassador Margaret Qualley plunges us into the tale ‘The Button’ alongside actress and House ambassador Anna Mouglalis, as well as friend of the House Naomi Campbell.” Kenny Beats, Karrueche, and more shared praise in the comments section.

However, on January 20, Cudi revealed that after a tense conversation, their beef had officially come to an end. “Just talked to Lupe,” he wrote on X. “[We] had a great talk. I know I was wrong and told him I shouldn’t have done that fuck sh*t I did. I called myself looking out for the fans in the moment, but in reality, I was just hating. I apologized, and he accepted it. Which I appreciated for real. Kendrick Lamar usually waits a few years between releasing new work. But thanks to the “Rich Spirit” rapper’s creative service company, PgLang, which he runs with Dave Free, he’s making an exception. On January 20, in a joint upload to Instagram, the company unveiled their latest creative endeavor with high-fashion house Chanel.
Chanel shared the official trailer for their forthcoming short film, The Button, starring Margaret Qualley, Anna Mouglalis, and Naomi Campbell, which is written and directed by Free. The ad features what seems to be an unreleased track from Lamar.
As Qualley searches for her missing fastener, Lamar’s record hypes up the viewer as they prepare to join the actress in her quest. On pgLang’s official Instagram, the company provided a synopsis of the collaboration:

Yo Gotti Makes 1st Public Appearance Since Big Jook’s Murder
Yo Gotti made his first public appearance since the death of his brother, Big Jook, on Friday night in Detroit at 42 Dugg’s concert at Little Caesars Arena. On stage, he appeared to be wearing a bulletproof vest under his shirt. Clips of the performance are circulating on social media. Jook was shot and killed outside a Memphis restaurant, last weekend.
When DJ Akademiks shared a clip of Gotti’s appearance, many fans were surprised to see him back to work this quickly. “N***a just buried 2 of his family members and out here on stage I know n****s grieve differently but wtf,” one user wrote. Another complained about people being insensitive about the situation in the face of tragedy. “I cant believe people so insensitive in the comments like they really know these famous people like he died in front of his family have some respect karma spend the bend for us all,” they commented.

Yo Gotti On Stage In Detroit
Fans aren’t the only ones who have spoken out in the wake of Jook’s death. Rick Ross also called for an end to gun violence in a message on social media. “I flew out of Houston 3 a.m., got back to Miami,” Ross said. “I’m headed to an event titled 5,000 Role Models where we acknowledging the young leaders, the young kings, our young brothers. We gotta empower the brothers. And while I’m speaking on this, our brothers in Memphis: I need y’all to know there’s only one way to wisdom and wealth, and that’s through each other. You understand? Through each other. Put the ski masks down. Put the guns down. Let’s embrace each other now. Let’s show that love. Rest in peace to all our good brothers.”
