Biggie Smalls’ Estate Reaches Settlement In World Trade Center Pictures Lawsuit

Some of the most iconic pictures in hip-hop history unsurprisingly belong to one of the genre’s most iconic figures. Moreover, fans of any generation likely know the photos of Biggie Smalls with the World Trade Center’s Twin Towers as their backdrop. Photographer Chi Modu took them in 1996, and said that his lyrics on the song “Juicy” referencing the Towers partly inspired the shoot in Jersey City, New Jersey. However, a 2019 lawsuit from Big’s estate claimed that Modu illegaly licensed the snaps for sold products without respecting his rights. Unfortunately, he passed away in 2021, and thus, the battle turned to estate versus estate.

Furthermore, Billboard reports that Staci Jennifer Trager -– Biggie’s estate’s legal representative in this case -– announced a settlement on Thursday (January 18). While its details are unknown at press time, she explained that the rapper’s children and Modu’s widow came to an agreement. “Pictures of Christopher cannot be commercially exploited without a license from our client,” Trager reportedly remarked to the outlet. “The settlement agreement is a testament to the dedication of our client as well as our team members in staying the course over several years.”

As such, it seems like Modu’s estate will still be able to sell physical and digital prints of the pictures. However, they will not be able to use the images for other products, as suggested by the explanation of the settlement. Of course, this joins a long list of other “legacy items” that the hip-hop community treasures, especially for such an influential and impactful late legend. For example, Biggie’s autographed arrest fingerprints, and those of Tupac Shakur, went on sale for $225K last year.

Meanwhile, as the West Coast icon’s murder case develops with the arrest of alleged culprit Keefe D, folks also claim that the Brooklyn MC’s death is connected. That emerged as a speculative theory long ago, and the mystery that surrounds both cases makes judging it a tough call. Plies Calls Out Donald Trump And His Supporters Celebrating Iowa Caucus Win

Plies has called Donald Trump supporters celebrating the former President’s win in Iowa. “Dear America: Why Aren’t Trump & MAGA Not Saying The “IOWA CAUCUS” Was Rigged??? When They “WIN” It’s Legit When They “LOSE” It’s “Rigged”… VERY NASTY, DELUSIONAL & DISHONEST PEOPLE!!!” Plies tweeted. Trump won the Iowa Caucus in dominant fashion, winning 51% of the vote. Ron DeSantis finished second with 21% of the vote. Many people have claimed that the result has already ended the primary season, seeing the result of as a sign of what the Republican voter base wants.

Speaking of “Fake News”, Trump has been fighting claims that he “bullied” his way into a cameo in Home Alone 2. “I was very busy, and didn’t want to do it. They were very nice, but above all, persistent. I agreed, and the rest is history!” Trump wrote on Truth Social. The brief moment, in which Kevin McCallister runs into Trump and asks for directions, was filmed in the lobby of the then-Trump-owned Plaza Hotel. Trump then went on to claim that his brief cameo was the driving force of the film’s massive success.

Donald Trump Removed From Maine Ballot

Meanwhile, in December 2023, the Maine’s Secretary of State has announced that Donald Trump has been removed from next year’s Presidential primary ballot. Shenna Bellows cited a Civil War-era clause of the 14th Amendment that bars “insurrectionists” from running for President. If the ruling stands, Maine will become the second state to remove Trump from the ballot. Earlier in December, the Colorado Supreme Court excluded Trump from the state’s ballot using the same precedent. However, Bellows became the first elected official to disbar Trump from the ballot.

However, whether these rulings will stand will likely depend on the Supreme Court. SCOTUS has never had to rule on Amendment 14, Section 3 before. But with states seemingly exercising their constitutional right, the court will likely intervene to have the final say. It will set up a fascinating battle between the court’s conservative leaning and many of the justices’ public stance as “constitutional absolutists”. No date has been set for SCOTUS to rule on the rights of states to disbar Trump on state ballots.

Travis Scott Movie Will Hit Strip Club As First Stop Of Its Viewing Tour

Travis Scott’s new movie Aggro Dr1ft, a collaboration with legendary filmmaker Harmony Korine, is bound to be one of his oddest projects yet. If you’re looking for proof of that, look no further than the film’s upcoming “tour” for viewing events, which will reportedly begin at a strip club. Moreover, according to Variety, folks wanting to catch the flick will seek out bizarre venues, kicking off at Cr*zy Girls in Los Angeles on February 7 of this year. It’s unclear what other locations this tour will hit, but one thing’s for sure. From what organizer EDGLRD suggested, they aim for an immersive experience unlike traditional cinema systems.

“The distribution of Aggro Dr1ft goes beyond the limitations of the outdated moviegoing experience,” Eric Kohn, the company’s head of film strategy and development, remarked in a statement. “You don’t just watch Aggro Dr1ft. You step into a new world, and these events will allow audiences to immerse themselves in it.” Although Travis Scott’s film earned a 38% critical score on Rotten Tomatoes following its screening at the Venice Film Festival last fall, it sounds like more of an audiovisual treat than a true-blue feature. Alas, with rumors of another album coming soon, maybe that’s exactly what he wants.

Furthermore, for those curious, Aggro Dr1ft is apparently about a hitman in Miami Beach on a mission. It’s shot entirely through an infrared lens, and these tour events and screenings will pop up at select venues across the United States after February 7. In addition, EDGLRD’s visuals, plus performances from Harmony Korine and producer/composer araabMUZIK, will make up this full experience. Of course, this whole rollout is unsurprising when you look at Travis Scott’s artistry. After all, his nightclub sets while on his Circus Maximus tour showed us he’s a fan of the space.

Meanwhile, as La Flame waits to see whether UTOPIA will win a Grammy, he’s keeping as busy as ever. During a recent stand-up set, Chappelle weighed in on the explosive interview. He noted that Williams mainly went after Black comedians, seeming disappointed. According to him, he’s a fan of Williams, but doesn’t understand why he decided to put his peers on blast.
