Wu-Tang Clan, Nas & De La Soul Will Livestream Concert On Amazon Music

If you’re an old-school ’90s East Coast hip-hop head, odds are you’ve already seen Wu-Tang Clan, Nas, and De La Soul perform live. After all, this legendary group of artists came together for their N.Y. State Of Mind tour across North America, Europe, and Australia, and their Seattle show at the Climate Pledge Arena on next Wednesday (October 18) will be very special. Well, it’ll be special for all the reasons their shows are already so stellar, but for this unable to attend or those who haven’t seen these MCs onstage, this will catch their eye. Amazon Music will stream the show in full, they announced today (Thursday, October 12) as part of their 50 & Forever celebration of rap music.

Furthermore, these artists kept up this run of shows from 2022 all the way to now, which is incredibly impressive. As such, if you missed them, there’s no doubt that you will enjoy this livestream. Wu-Tang Clan, Nas, and De La Soul are set to hit the stage on the 18th at 8PM PDT, with Amazon’s Rotation Roundtable hip-hop talk show streaming right before at 7PM PDT. If you’re wondering how to stream the concert, it will be available on Twitch and on Prime Video.

Of course, this can’t compare to the experience of witnessing these New York rap legends live, but the stream will still convey a lot of that energy. Each rapper runs through their verses with ease, cover plenty of their eras, and keep up with the crowd’s energy. If nothing else, it’s just incredible to see how the years haven’t aged these performers one bit, as they remain as passionate and skilled as ever. It’s also quite the heartening and emotional live performance, not just because of hip-hop’s 50th anniversary, but because of the recent passing of De La Soul member Trugoy The Dove.

Meanwhile, it’s incredible that amid this trek, Nas was still able to deliver some heat with his Hit-Boy collaborative albums. Overall, this is something that any rap fan can watch an appreciate from the comfort of their homes now. So save the date, read up on their lyrics, and get ready for a throwback like no other. For more news and updates on the Wu-Tang Clan, Nas, and De La Soul, keep checking in with HNHH.

Today in Hip-Hop History: Ol’ Dirty Bastard Drops His Sophomore ‘N***a Please’ LP 24 Years Ago

Screen Shot 2023 09 14 at 9.10.23 AM

On this day in 1999, the late great Ol’ Dirty Bastard of the Wu-Tang Clan released his second LP Ni**a Please on the Elektra label. Before it’s release, ODB was quoted saying that the then-untitled album had two contenders for its name; God Made and Dirt Don’t Hurt and The Black Man Is God, White Man Is The Devil. Ni**a Please was decided on after the original two were considered too outrageous.

Known for his controversial nature, ODB’s idea of promoting this project was to get his name in the headlines as much as possible, whether it be positive or negative. In the time in between his debut and sophomore release ODB was all over entertainment news and tabloids. His antics included a bail money fundraiser, surviving a shootout with police, interrupting the 1998 Grammy Awards, and even popping up at the welfare office in Brooklyn in a limousine to pick up his food stamps.

Obviously, all press is good press because the album debut on the Billboard 200 at #10 and sold 93,000 copies in the first week. The album went on to be certified gold by the RIAA in the year of its release.

RZA Is Turning ‘Enter The Wu-Tang (36 Chambers)’ Into A Series Of Symphony Shows For Its 30th Anniversary

2023 marks the 30th anniversary of the groundbreaking Wu-Tang Clan debut album Enter The Wu-Tang (36 Chambers). With that in mind, the group’s de facto leader RZA has something special planned to celebrate the anniversary: A run of shows at New York’s Gramercy Theatre turning the kung-fu-obsessed rap recording into a straight-up symphony.

Considering the original’s orchestral components, which were drawn from a variety of sources including ’70s soul records and actual classical compositions, it’s a reworking that makes a lot of sense. Other rappers, such as Nas, have done similar things with some of their most pioneering works, and RZA himself even produced a ballet earlier this year called 36 Chambers Of Shaolin And A Ballet Through Mud.

The shows will take place November 7th, 8th, and 9th, with tickets going on sale Friday, September 8th at 10 am. You can get more info here. Meanwhile, the Wu-Tang Clan as a crew kick off the next part of their North American tour alongside De La Soul and Nas next Friday, September 15th at Madison Square Garden. RZA Announces 30th Anniversary Celebration of '36 Chambers' at Gramercy Theatre

Hip-hop legend and Wu-Tang Clan mastermind Robert Diggs, famously known as RZA, is set to commemorate the 30th anniversary of the iconic album Enter the Wu-Tang (36 Chambers) with a special event at Gramercy Theatre in New York City. The celebration will take place on November 7, 8, and 9, 2023, promising an unforgettable experience for fans of the groundbreaking album.

36 Chambers marked a pivotal moment in hip-hop history, as RZA’s innovative production style, characterized by stark beats and haunting samples from soul records and kung fu films, became the foundation of Wu-Tang Clan’s gritty narratives. The album’s influence continues to resonate in the world of music.

Tickets for this exclusive event will be available via presale on Thursday, September 7, starting at 10 a.m. ET, with the general on-sale beginning on Friday, September 8, also at 10 a.m. ET, through Ticketmaster.com.

Throughout his career, RZA’s talents extended beyond music, including film scores, acting, and directing. His contributions to projects like “Ghost Dog: The Way of the Samurai” and “Kill Bill” have been highly acclaimed. He has also authored books and executive produced the Hulu series “Wu-Tang: An American Saga.”

Currently on tour with Wu-Tang Clan and Nas for the “NY State of Mind” tour, RZA remains an influential figure in both hip-hop and entertainment. In 2022, he collaborated with DJ Scratch on the album “Saturday Afternoon Kung Fu Theater,” demonstrating his ongoing commitment to pushing artistic boundaries.

As fans eagerly await this milestone celebration, RZA’s enduring impact on the culture of hip-hop is unquestionable, and the 30th anniversary of 36 Chambers promises to be a remarkable tribute to his remarkable career. Don’t miss out on the chance to be part of this historic event.

Happy Birthday To Wu Tang Co-Founder The GZA!

gzagenius

The “genius” of the iconic WTC is celebrating his 57th born day today.

On this date in 1966, Gary Grice, better known to the rap world as the “GZA”, was born in Brooklyn, New York, and is now recognized as one of the most celebrated lyricists to ever grace the mic in Hip Hop.

Before the Wu-Tang Clan formed like Voltron, the GZA began his career as “The Genius”, signing a deal with Cold Chillin’ Records, where he released Words From The Genius in 1991. After an unsuccessful solo career, GZA joined forces with his cousin Robert “RZA” Diggs and created the world-famous Wu the following year and the rest is history. Wu-Tang Clan went on to become a multiplatinum group that is arguably the best Hip Hop collective of all time.

GZA went on the release four more solo projects and has even released a series on Netflix entitled Liquid Science, with the title being a play off of his Liquid Swords albums.

Peace and happy degree day to Allah Justice on his 54th birthday and many more hereafter!
