New Kanye West Documentary Reportedly Hitting Theaters Next Year

After the jeen-yuhs documentary on Netflix and various other visual projects, it seems like Kanye West has yet another documentary in the works on his magnanimous life and career. Moreover, it’s reportedly titled In Whose Name? according to Variety, although we advise readers to take this with a grain of salt as it’s all early information. Nevertheless, it’s reportedly helmed by Nicolas Ballesteros and is planned to release in theaters in 2025. A promo reel for the film will reportedly drop on November 7 via a screening at the American Film Market. We also got the first image from the doc from Goodfellas and Utopia, who will reportedly take care of the promo reel screening.

“With a billion-dollar budget and a commitment to truth, Ye, formerly known as Kanye West, invites 18-year-old Nicolas Ballesteros armed with an iPhone on a six-year journey revealing unfiltered aspects of celebrity life which confront the provocative opinions, grand visions and bold contrarianism that defined him as the world’s most controversial artist,” the doc’s synopsis reportedly reads. “The film follows Ye’s ascent to becoming the richest Black man in American history while uncovering why the superstar risked everything he had built in the name of freedom. Examining the culture that birthed the star, ‘In Whose Name?’ explores the overlapping influences of corporate exploitation, racial complexities and psychological struggles inherent in the American dream.”

Furthermore, the project reportedly filmed over the last six years, boasting never-before-seen footage while promising to “offer a unique and cinematic perspective on Ye’s public transformation.” According to reports, the Kanye West doc is in post-production and enlisted Ballesteros as producer along with Jack M. Russel and Shy Ranje as co-producers. Justin Staple is the co-executive producer of In Whose Name? and David Bullock is its associate producer.

“We’re thrilled to present ‘In Whose Name?’ at AFM,” Marie Zeniter (V.P. of sales at Utopia) and Eva Diederix (head of sales at Goodfellas) reportedly stated. “This powerful documentary offers an unfiltered view without narration, it invites audiences to draw their own conclusions on themes of fame, religion and power. We believe audiences globally deserve the chance to witness how one of the world’s most influential figures navigates the complexities and contradictions of celebrity.” In an alleged text message exchange with Ballesteros, Ye said the following of the doc according to Ballesteros’ recent Instagram post: “That doc was very deep. It was like being dead and looking back on my life.”

Kendrick Lamar’s Childhood Friend Drops A Bombshell Following Surprise Release

After months of theorizing and celebrating for pgLang Stans, Kendrick Lamar is apparently (and finally) kicking his rollout into full gear. Whether this is first and foremost a rollout for his Super Bowl LIX halftime show or a potential new album remains a mystery. However, thanks to K.Dot’s longtime friend Euro on Twitter, we have hope that it won’t be long until we find out. “That’s just a teaser watch the next s**t,” he responded to a fan who tagged him in a post about Kendrick’s new untitled song. As such, it seems like we might get a follow-up to this new release sooner rather than later.

However, it’s still anyone’s guess as to what this “next s**t” even means. Is it a new album, a new hot single, a compilation project, another Drake diss, or just more and more hype until the big New Orleans stage on February 9? Either way, it’s clear that it’s Kendrick Lamar season right now, and there are so many ways in which it could develop. Fans are even looking deeply into the eBay listing of some Black Forces that he used as his cover art.

In addition, they also might be reading a bit too deeply into the new song itself, which has some references to Drake throughout. Still, these allusions are more factual and historical than they are straight-up disses, jabs, or re-instigations. It’s more of a track in which Kendrick Lamar vents against the industry and the culture, using his recent victory as a jumping-off point. While some fans out there are criticizing him for seemingly contradicting his promise of “no Round 2s,” it’s also not accurate to call this a second round in the first place.

If this new song proved anything, it’s that this narrative and thematic focus for Kendrick Lamar goes far beyond just Drake. If his friend Euro is right, then we will probably hear a lot more about this in the near future. But it’s also possible that this is just a final vent for the Compton lyricist to speak on his enemies, haters, and problems once and for all before continuing a West Coast celebration, a pgLang/TDE renaissance, or whatever else he has in store. Whatever it is, it feels great to finally be seeing the light at the end of the tunnel… Or at least, that’s what we hope.

Pharrell Rocks Out To Unreleased Clipse Collab In New Album Preview

The upcoming reunion album from Clipse will be a massive moment in hip-hop today, and the project’s producer Pharrell is just as excited as fans. Moreover, a new video emerged on social media of him vibing out to one of the duo’s unreleased cuts, which will presumably appear on this LP. The snippet itself sounds as simultaneously smooth and grimy as you’d expect, as you can hear one of the Virginia MCs spit some bars over round drums and some light synths. During a previous interview with Vulture, the brothers explained why Skateboard P will solely handle their team-up’s production and how he impacted its sound and direction.

“Pharrell producing everything is also an ode to the type of music and the type of albums we want to make,” Pusha T elaborated about this upcoming Clipse album. “We still want to make full bodies of work. These are movies, man. These aren’t just songs. This isn’t just a collection of joints we went in and banged out. This is arguing. This is a problem. These are people passionate about their opinions and making sure that everybody’s on their A-game. Listen, I can be mad at the engineer, you know what I’m saying? Even he has to be on point. I think that’s the level of meticulousness that a Clipse fan looks for.”

Furthermore, we still don’t know when this album will come out, but we do know that Clipse, Pharrell, and company are expecting one last feature for it before it’s all officially ready to drop. Pusha T recently revealed this on the Ghetto Runways podcast. “I’m so excited about this new Clipse album,” he stated. “That’s what I’m on right now. It’s absolutely finished. Just waiting on a feature.” “Just waiting on the feature, bro,” Push told the camera.

Meanwhile, Clipse isn’t the only group that Pharrell appeared in headlines with during the past few weeks. Lupe Fiasco attempted to revive their supergroup with Kanye West (Child Rebel Solider AKA CRS) via the release of a track called “SHRINK.” While this is an unofficial drop, it does provide a glimpse into the future we never got to witness from this trio. Hopefully this new album from Pusha T and No Malice doesn’t meet a similar fate.

Kendrick Lamar Will Allegedly “Leave Drake Alone” On His Next Release

Everyone is guessing as to what Kendrick Lamar will do next. Moreover, various sources have claimed that he will drop something very soon, while others allege that these are misleading reports. Either way, it’s more likely than not that, whenever Kendrick does return with new music, he won’t really have much of a reason or desire to rehash anything about his Drake beef. The battle is over, and he can easily stick to his victory for now. What’s more is that fans believe this thanks to a recent tweet from K.Dot’s childhood friend Lil L, also known as Euro Luxxk. “Nah we leaving the Canadian alone everybody just working at this moment so just stay tune[d],” he responded to a fan on Sunday (August 25).

Furthermore, this is especially interesting because of what Drake has to say about all this. His new “100 GIGS” drops referenced his feud with a lot of rappers this year quite often, and he even posted and deleted an Instagram Story that proclaimed he will “win Game 2.” As such, there’s a chance that the 6ix God wants to take Kendrick Lamar down and boast about his success and status despite Kendrick’s attempts to obliterate him. Still, this could also just be a flex to his many haters and rap game opps, not an actual indication that he wants revenge of some sort.

Then again, we won’t really know until it happens, will we? We’re still culturally reflecting on the battle, whether it’s HBCU band tributes to “Not Like Us” or endless Twitter debates and memes that just won’t stop. As such, a lot of Kendrick Lamar and Drake fans wouldn’t want either of them to beat a dead horse.

Meanwhile, that West Coast banger keeps breaking streaming records, and Kendrick Lamar is still ever-present in many fans’ rotation. Many of his die-hards point to these facts as reasons why he probably won’t re-engage in the Drake beef, at least outright. We wouldn’t rule out a celebratory or subliminally general bar or two, and it will be hard to hear Mr. Morale’s boastful rap game lyrics without thinking of his Toronto rival. Regardless of the outcome, we can’t wait to find out.

Lil Wayne Releasing New Music With Wheezy Very Soon: Details

It looks like Lil Wayne might be dropping some new material very soon, and while this isn’t an official announcement, has he ever had a reputation for not being incredibly prolific? Moreover, this is based on a Universal Music pre-save link that surfaced online, according to LWHQ, that showed the artwork for a release titled “Weezy vs Wheezy.” Both the former Hot Boy and the Mississippi producer appear on the cover, but it’s unclear whether this is a new song or an upcoming project. Either way, this report and the link indicates that this will come out April 5, so we’ll see if this is all true very soon.

Furthermore, this also follows some other exciting news about the New Orleans legend delivering some new material on the horizon. Rapsody recently announced her next album Please Don’t Cry, on which Lil Wayne will appear with a special guest feature alongside Erykah Badu, Hit-Boy, and more. Perhaps that will be his main focus when it comes to 2024 releases: building notable collaborations with his peers. Considering that Tunechi is one of the most legendary collaborators and feature artists in hip-hop history, we can’t say we’d complain.

What’s more is that he’s already proven how notable a guest spot for him can be on a new release this year, if only for the widely promoted, highly visible, and curiously surprising nature of a particular collab. Regardless of what you thought of Yeat’s new album 2093, the 41-year-old’s inclusion on “Lyfestyle” definitely cemented his crossover ability, versatility, and openness to working with the new generation. Although Lil Wayne didn’t blow any minds on there in our opinion, it was still great to see him outside of his comfort zone. Perhaps this supposed Wheezy collab will result in a similar sight.

Meanwhile, the Young Money boss might be dropping new music with his son soon, too. After all, he’s been teasing a lot of wild new material online, much to the amusement of fans of his father. Moreover, the Toronto crooner, making his comeback very soon, announced yesterday (Monday, March 11) that he’s dropping another single for the project this Friday titled “Real Woman” following the previous one, “Resentment.” “The real [goat emoji] is back this Friday @partynextdoor,” Drizzy wrote of his OVO partner on Instagram in the caption of a post of the single’s cover art. It’s been a very long time since we heard from PND in a full-length capacity, and fans can’t wait to see how he comes back to the R&B and soft trap world.

Furthermore, Drake previously praised PARTYNEXTDOOR and previewed P4 while visiting his homecoming show in Toronto. “I’m going on tour but Party droppin’ PND 4,” he said back in May of last year. “First of all, can I just say on behalf of everybody in this room, can you come home more, please? Ye and Ty Dolla $ign have yet to drop VULTURES 2 as promised, but now there’s a new pipeline of info that the first installment didn’t have. Moreover, a Twitter (now X) account by the name of @yefanatics has apparently been in contact with the Chicago artist and his team, and through this account, he’s been able to provide updates on the project. In some of the most recent message screenshots posted on social media by the fan page, the “BURN” MC said that he and Ty will play both VULTURES 1 and 2 at their Phoenix listening event tonight (March 10), plus what seems to be another track called “Slide,” presumably for the final part of the trilogy.

Furthermore, Ye had a pretty interesting question to ask @yefanatics (and by extension, the fans) about his and Ty Dolla Sign’s next two VULTURES albums. “Was talking with the team about how to release the next album,” he apparently wrote via direct message. “Like James Blake said streaming devalues our music. We sell albums on Yeezy.com. I got 20 million Instagram followers. When 5% of my followers buy an album. That’s 1 million albums sold. That’s 300k more than the biggest album last year. We sold 1 million items on Yeezy.com on Super Bowl Sunday so we know it’s possible. How do you feel about us not streaming and only selling the album digitally.”

With this in mind, it’s at least great to see that James Blake’s recent statements on the music industry have really resonated. The English creative brought up a lot of great points in terms of artist exploitation, the adverse effects of a streaming-dominated economy on artistry, algorithmic engagement like TikTok being a hindrance to creativity, and much more. While Ye has his own legal, distribution, and politically sensitive reasons to see pushback from streaming platforms, it doesn’t change the fact that the issues with streaming apply across all artists, for the most part. Perhaps VULTURES 2 will join the likes of Willie Nelson as some of the first huge and prominent musical moments against streaming.

Meanwhile, we know that this is history repeating itself, because Donda 2 only released via the Yeezy Stem Player. But VULTURES 1 is still seeing a lot of streaming success, so maybe that’s another reason for them to switch things up for this one. After all, it seems like casuals won’t stop playing “CARNIVAL” anytime soon, and the next installment can focus more on the core fans. Hopefully Sexyy Red takes her time to fully craft it before dropping, as she’s got a lot on her plate for this year. The 25-year-old is one of the performers slated for The Roots Picnic, which raised many fans’ eyebrows. After all, many probably didn’t expect Questlove to be a “Pound Town” resident, but a good festival lineup should always be diverse and timely, right?

Logic Unveils “Ultra 85” Lead Single Release Date And Album Trailer

Logic, aka Sir Robert Bryson Hall II, is finally ready to begin the Ultra 85 hype train. The multi-hyphenate hailing from the East Coast has let many years go by without dropping this project. In fact, some fans have claimed they have been waiting since their high school days for this to drop. Well, the endless waiting is seemingly coming to a close at some point this year. The last time Logic gave his supporters an update about Ultra 85 was back at the beginning of the month on his Instagram. The caption simply read “Ultra 85 2024,” with an image of the gorgeous artwork.

That can be credited to Sam Spratt who has done a plethora of his covers throughout his lengthy discography. This will be Logic’s first true album since 2023’s College Park in February. However, he did also drop a bandcamp exclusive mixtape Inglorious Basterd that featured some classic samples of other popular rap classics. But, for the first single, we have all the news on that.

In the video from a Twitter user, the short album trailer reveals a computer typing out words to announce the single release date. It will drop on this Friday, February 2. There is no single title as of now, but that could be announced in the next day or two. Fans of Logic will finally be able to feast once more very, very soon.
