Yhapojj, the Huntsville, Alabama teenager, put out his first commercial album on May 10, P.S. F*** You. At the time, it was just the second occasion that we posted a reaction/news post about the underground rapper. However, after all of the positive reviews on the project from fans, we knew we couldn’t slow down our coverage of Yhapojj. He seems to have this special cult following bubbling up, which is exciting to see, especially for talent still on the rise. Recently, Yhapojj put out a new single called “Moshpit”, which features another newcomer in Nino Paid.
He’s also been gaining some momentum himself in quick fashion. He’s already up to over 180,000 monthly listeners on Spotify, and he’s only been releasing music professionally since 2023. In terms of what city/state he’s repping, Nino hails from Landover, Maryland. This is the first time that him and Yhapojj have collaborated, and it feels like it won’t be the last either. “Moshpit” sounds exactly like what the title of the record is. However, it takes slight detour thanks to its videogame-like beat. However, that decision makes sense once you see the music video’s opening scene, which is someone logging into a PlayStation console. The lyrics are very blunt and aggressive in typical rage fashion. Give Yhapojj and Nino Paid’s single “Moshpit” a try with the link below.
Drunk up b****es, she drunk up the fifth Ion’ give a f***, young n**** get clipped My name Lil’ Yhap and my name Lil’ Yixx I see a lil’ thot, hoe want a lil’ pic N****s think I was, when I’m workin’ my switch I’m workin’ that b****, like I’m workin’ that b****
Heems has just laid out a truly personal collection of tracks onto his newest album, VEENA. For those who don’t know, the project pays homage to his mother of the same name. In fact, she even as some spoken word bits on the record, including on the opening title track. She labels Heems the “poet of Queens”. That’s a very accurate description of her son, given how often his bars leave listeners with a lot to chew on, theoretically speaking. Besides showing love to the woman who brought him into this world, there’s a whole lot of other important and equally harrowing topics at hand.
“MANTO”, one of the four singles to VEENA, hears Heems talk openly about addiction, depression, and more. “I ask my dad why my grandma’s so quiet / I ask my mom why my grandma’s not smiling / I ask my therapist why I’m always wilding“. However, through all of this, you can tell that he’s got some hope for himself on songs like “RATATOUILLE”. “Life is beautiful I’m looking at flowers / I’m feeling like I got superpowers“. All in all, it’s a deep and intense listen, and definitely one of the best underground releases of 2024. This is also Heems’ second LP of the year, as it follows LAFANDAR, which ended a nine-year drought.
38 Spesh, Rochester, New York rapper and producer, is always going to be active year in and year out. You can pencil him in for at least 2-3 projects every 12 months, and sometimes even more. With him dropping Mother & Gun, 38 Spesh is already over that quota, and there’s still about three and half months to go. This new 10-track offering follows up a trio of collaborative efforts that saw the veteran go behind the boards for. The most recent of them was Grafh’s God’s Timing, which dropped back on July 26. The other two works that Spesh has been involved in include The Musalini’s In God We Trust and Rasheed Chappell’s Checks & Balances.
Besides this being his first solo album of the year, 38 Spesh is also making this release a big deal content matter wise. When he announced Mother & Gun back over a week ago via social media, he mentioned how this record has lots of emotional weight. “Im dropping my album next Friday 8/16 and it’s called “Mother&Gun”. This is the most intimate and personal project I ever made. I can’t wait until yall hear it.” You’ll be able to feel that right away on the opener “Early Morning”. In some of the first few lines, Spesh mentions how this is a tribute to his late mother. Overall, the project also delves into resiliency, his past, and other personal anecdotes. See what all the hype is about with the links below.
Tech N9ne is working some old and new friends on his latest album, COSM. Also referred to as Class Of Strange Music, this is a new entry in the long-running Tech N9ne Collabos series. It comes in as the ninth one, and it is also his first album in the saga in seven years. The project is led by several singles which include “Roll Call”, “ZOD (I Win I Always Win)”, “Boomer Rang”, and many more.
Like the name of the title suggests, there are some odd instrumentals and bars laced throughout this behemoth of a tracklist. But that is Tech N9ne’s m.o. and it helped define his legendary status. Speaking of the set of songs, there are 23 in total and almost every one of them has a handful of features. They range from more recognizable stars like Kevin Gates, Trae Tha Truth, Killer Mike, and Hopsin. However, you also have appearances from Tech’s Strange Music, Inc family such Skatterman & Snug Brim on “Drippy Drop”. Whatever the flavor, the Kansas City, MO MC has it, so be sure to spin COSM below.
The great thing about underground hip-hop is that there are so many unique personalities. There are a plethora of rappers who operate in this space and nearly every one of them brings an idiosyncratic style. One of those guys has to be Homeboy Sandman. The longtime Queens, New York lyricist has been steadily developing his mindset to the subgenre for nearly 20 years. Getting his start in the late 2000s, the 43-year-old has always been one to bring engaging material through his dry sense of humor. His goofy bars and ear for diverse instrumentals are what define him in our opinion, and it has allowed him to create an instant recognizable sound. Those qualities are all over the latest Homeboy Sandman record, Rich II.
If you have been following his career closely, you know that he likes to ride slightly off-kilter jazzy/boom-bap beats. They usually contain a faster rhythm along with chaotic drum patterns. Those are on Rich II as well and they help bring out some hilarious moments lyrically speaking. The flows that Homeboy delivers are also goofy at times, really accentuating the tongue in cheek bars. Earlier this year, we talked about a couple of singles, “Real Good” and “Do It Right”. They both do not land on this project. Instead, there is a good chance that we still get Year of the Dragon. A release date for it is still up in the air, so take a listen to Rich II in the meantime below.
BIGBABYGUCCI is one artist that is someone you need to be paying close attention to out of the underground scene. The guy is bringing some otherworldly beats to the table that will transport you to another dimension. Hailing from Charlotte, North Carolina, GUCCI has not received a lot of coverage here on the site unfortunately. But he is gaining a lot of momentum as of late. The eight-year veteran is inching closer and closer to releasing his new project BABY 5, which will supersede the 2023’s When You Go To Sleep. Over the weekend, BIGBABYGUCCI offered up a track from it called “Balenciaga Store Closed”.
This track provides tons of flexes and violence over space-like instrumental that is wavy beyond belief. There are also some fun bars peppered throughout the single as well, lending some sticky lines. “She want some d**k, girl, leave me alone / I’m gone to the bread, you know I’m a dog / She hop in the bed, she just like a frog“. Besides “Balenciaga Store Closed” being a great taster to the album, BABY 5 is also a big deal for other reasons. This is coming right off the heels of his own label’s first project Better Temperatures, Vol. 1. Things are definitely going well for GUCCI, and they will be even more so on July 15.

The East Coast underground scene is back with a new and intriguing release for hardcore hip-hop heads. Two Massachusetts artists, Estee Nack and Boneweso are here with a collaborative album, SYSTEMATICALLY WE WERE NEVER FREE. Estee Nack flourishes as a rapper and a vocalist, whereas Boneweso is spitter and beat maker. The latter is not originally from the states, nor is his main background hip-hop. According to Genius, he is more well-known for his Dominican Republic roots. He has worked in the lanes of reggaeton, salsa, bachata, and Latin music.
However, his profile does mention that he has some trap rap experience, so there is that. But clearly Estee and Boneweso have developed some chemistry and respect since the producer moved. As for Nack, he might be known by Griselda fans. Westside Gunn is the main man, but he has also been seen with Nicholas Craven, too.
But back to business. SYSTEMATICALLY WE WERE NEVER FREE is a tightly-packaged 13-song project with one feature from al.divino. The project just dropped today, but sadly for streaming users, there is a catch. The project seems to be and will only be available on Bandcamp. You also have to purchase the digital version to hear it, and it costs $32.00. You can check out the “[Via]” link at the end of the article to check it out. Even though it has a limited release, Nack is thrilled to have this tape out to the public.
What are your thoughts on SYSTEMATICALLY WE WERE NEVER FREE by Estee Nack and Boneweso? Is this a top-tier release of 2024, why or why not? What happens when you combine, comedy, unpredictability, an unconventional rap style, and banging beats? You get New York rapper and eclectic personality, RXKNephew. There may not be any artists quite like the 29-year-old MC and it is a shame that his name is not more widely known. On the surface, his absurd lyrics and off-kilter flows probably have people thinking he is some sort of troll trying to get clicks. But, if you dig a little deeper, you will notice that KXKNephew has a lot more to offer.
That is why we strongly encourage you to check out his newest project, Till I’m Dead 2. The man has been on a mission this year, as this is his seventh tape already, and we are only five full months in. There is a chance that he is already putting together his eighth project. If that is the case, then he is roughly on a 16-20 album pace for 2024.
Across this tape you are getting a whole host of different beats (RX Brainstorm) and topical focus. Nephew explores subjects such as providing for himself and others, the rap industry, relationships, and more. Sometimes he presents the ideas in a tongue in cheek or serious tone and adds to the excitement of the listening experience. So please, give RXKNephew and Till I’m Dead 2 an honest shot, you will not regret it.
What are your thoughts on Till I’m Dead 2 by RXKNephew? Is this his best album of 2024 so far, why or why not? What song did Nephew bring his best stuff? Ever since Matt OX exploded after his viral hit “Overwhelming” back in 2017, the youngster from Philadelphia, Pennsylvania has garnered a cult following. For the last few years, he has been doing most of his work in the underground scene. His slightly unique style caught the attention of some of his contemporaries and bigger stars like Chief Keef, XXXTENTACION, Lil Gnar, and more. Also helping his following and co-signs is his production level. Still at just the ripe age of 19, he has built up quite the beefy catalog and recently he had has added to it. That is right, Matt OX is back yet again with a new single called “MONDAY TO SUNDAY.”
This is already his 11th release in total, and it follows up on five April singles. Those include “DARK MATTER,” “CHOPZ,” “OPEN YOUR EYES,” “PSYCHO BOUT THAT DOUGH,” and “SLEEPLESS NIGHTS.” This seventh track where he is the lead act suggests that he could be close to a new project. If that turns out to be the case, Matt OX will have his first LP since his 2023 tapes TEENRAGE and OXygen.
On “MONDAY TO SUNDAY” the main draw here is the beat. It has this vintage video game-like sample woven into the trap instrumental and it is quite fun. Additionally, the high-pitch synths add a nice extra layer. However, that is about where we can stop with the compliments. Matt’s flow and delivery are quite forgettable and a little harsh to listen to. Fans in the Reddit thread seem to agree. One user says bluntly, “This is awful.” Another is not a fan, but he can at least appreciate the effort. “Song is no good but it’s cool that Matt Ox is still trying to make it as a rapper 6+ years after his viral moment.” We want to hear your thoughts, so give “MONDAY TO SUNDAY” a try above.
What are your thoughts on this brand-new single “MONDAY TO SUNDAY” by Matt OX? Is this one of his stronger releases as of late, why or why not? Do you think he is getting ready for another new project soon? How do you feel about the wonky beat? We would like to hear what you have to say, so be sure to leave your takes in the comments section. Additionally, always keep it locked in with HNHH for all of the latest news surrounding Matt OX.
