The pink carpet was the place to be for the ultimate Barbie party as the highly-anticipated movie made its world debut this weekend…and major celebrities were showing out.

Ryan Gosling, Margot Robbie, America Ferrera, Ariana Greenblatt, Issa Rae, Greta Gerwig, Nicki Minaj, Kate McKinnon, Simu Liu, Michael Cera, Hari Nef, Alexandra Shipp, and more attended the premiere of Greta Gerwig’s ‘Barbie’ on Sunday in LA.

Celebrities rocked a variety of Barbie-inspired fits on the iconic pink carpet. Robbie, the film’s namesake star, donned a strapless Schiaparelli Haute Couture mermaid gown with velvet gloves, a look inspired by the 1961 “Solo in the Spotlight” edition of Barbie. Gosling, who plays Ken in the film, wore a pink Gucci suit and an E necklace, referencing his baby mama, Eva Mendes (who did not attend the event).

Issa Rae, who plays plays President Barbie in the movie, wore a bright pink full-length Marc Bouwe dress.

Nicki Minaj, whose song “Barbie World” (featuring Ice Spice and Aqua) appears on the “Barbie” soundtrack, wore a light blue Alaia outfit.

Celebrities also posed in front of a full-size Barbie house replica that was built for the event as well as a pink Barbie car.

The movie comes out in theaters on July 21.

Drake is secure in his masculinity- and isn’t afraid to show it, clapping back at critics who felt some type of way about his recently painted nails.

In a recent Instagram post, Drake addressed Lil Yachty, who he claims told him to paint his fingernails as it would help him stop biting them. On July 3, Drake showed off pink nails on his IG story. Naturally, his audience was divided on the “Rich Flex” artist’s manicure.

On Monday, Drake (who has just kicked off his It’s All a Blur tour with 21 Savage), seemed to jokingly address Lil Yachty, writing

“GET OUT MY COMMENTS YOU TOLD ME TO PAINT MY NAILS SO I STOP BITING THEM AND NOW THE WORLD IS BEING HOMOPHOBIC FOR THE 1st TIME SINCE ‘RICH FLEX…which wasn’t that long ago now that I think about it….wait is the world homophobic? Smh.”

Drake is hardly the first male celebrity to paint his nails. Machine Gun Kelly has his own nail polish line, Bad Bunny has rocked brightly colored digits, and A$AP Rocky said in an interview with Vogue that he feels “like men should be able to do nail art without feeling feminine,” noting in the same interview that his nails were painted with Prada fall 2019 motifs, including the broken heart and Frankenstein. In fact, Vogue even highlighted famous male celebrities who have rocked colored nails.

Oftentimes, the media will create a narrative that simply isn’t true. Sometimes artists will feel the need to clarify the lies, other times they simply keep it pushing. 

Most recently, Trippie Redd fell victim for just that. A fan had recorded a video of Trippie and his homies exiting a commercial airplane before it took off, and many were quick to speculate it was because they were smoking weed in the bathroom. However, Trippie denies this was the case. 

Taking to his 13.8 million followers on Instagram, the “Love Scars” recording artist shared a video to his Story explaining what exactly went down, and why they chose to leave. And while Trippie didn’t smoke weed on American Airlines, apparently he had blazed up prior to boarding.

Trippie explains, “I see media outlets keep reaching, I never got kicked off a plane for trying to smoke weed. I had smoked weed before I got on the flight and my homie, he smelled like weed in the back of the plane. I heard the flight attendant say something, so I walked to the back to see what was up. Then they got to yelling at me.”

At this point, Trippie reveals he left and went to get his own private jet.

“Honestly, I feel like the flight attendants got some sort of attitude or some type of animosity like they hate their job or something,” he continues. “I’m fine flying first class but when I feel disrespected or not welcomed, I will fly private because I feel like I got to get to my bag. If I’m going to pick up $350,000, $20,000 ain’t shit. Put some respect on it.”

Recently, Trippie Redd made headlines when he said he wasn’t doing shows for less than $200K. Good to see he’s still securing the bag!

YouTube Comedian Colleen Ballinger Gets Backlash for Performing Beyonce's Single Ladies in Blackface

Beyonce‘s “Single Ladies” was obviously one of the biggest hits of her career and over the past decade, there’s been no shortage of people performing the song in one way or another online. While most performances have been lighthearted and funny, viewers aren’t laughing at YouTube “comedian” Colleen Ballinger, whose performance of the hit song in underwear and blackface has recently resurfaced, causing more controversy for the already-embattled “comedian.”

Colleen Ballinger is generally known for her character Miranda and her “Miranda Sings” YouTube series, which revolves around a clueless aspiring singer. However, Ballinger also does other standup and musical comedy routines. In the video, which was posted to Ballinger’s channel about five years ago and is still live but unlisted, the comedian appears in blackface and starts by taking off a long black dress and then pulling what appear to be white cotton underwear out from underneath a black bodysuit. She sings the song with two muscular backup dancers behind her.

This isn’t the first time that Ballinger has been in trouble. In the past, she has been accused of making fun of a male actor with dark skin in which she reportedly asked “where is he?” during auditions for her short-lived 2016 Netflix show, “Haters Back Off.”

Ballinger has also been accused of sharing inappropriate photos with underage fans as well as sharing nude photos of her former podcast co-host Trisha Paytas with underage fans and others as well.

So far, she has not addressed the Beyonce video.

Angie Martinez: The Voice That Defined Hip Hop Radio

Angie Martinez is one of the key voices in radio today. Known as “The Voice of New York,” she has been in radio for over 20 years. Her latest endeavor has been her podcast titled IRL, which has seen guests from the music and media world of all kinds and generations. However, she was at Hot 97, a prominent rap station in New York, before this. She later left for another New York outlet, Power 105. These tenures resulted in her induction into the Radio Hall of Fame in 2020. Angie also spent some time behind the mic as a rapper too. She built her reputation by working with prominent figures in both fields in the late ’90s and early 2000s. With a résumé so expansive, it comes as no surprise she’ll be receiving her star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame in 2024.

Angie Martinez’s place in the radio world began in Miami at Power 96. While living in New York, her mom sent her to Miami for the summer to give her something to do that aligned with her love of music. While she only had an internship, the hustle and bustle of live radio excited her. When Angie returned to New York, she got a job at Hot 97. In an interview with Complex, she spoke of how the station played dance music and later crossover artists that blended dance and hip-hop. The true hip-hop songs were only played at night with fewer listeners. The station brought in Funkmaster Flex, who was an integral part of its transformation into a hip-hop station. Angie worked with him directly.

Working with Funkmaster Flex was how Angie Martinez first got her foot in the door as an on-air personality. In the same Complex interview, she spoke about how Flex was more comfortable talking to her than talking to the radio listeners. He would address her while she was in the room, and she would chime in so the people listening could hear her, too. This led to her being on air alone in the very late hours of the station, 2:00 a.m. to 6:00 a.m. The station liked how she handled the calls during that time, her genuine knowledge of the culture, and her technical knowledge of playing the music. They moved her to 6:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m. That’s when she started doing interviews that began with local artists and soon progressed to chart-topping artists.

Angie’s Time At Power 105 & Beyond

Angie Martinez spent over ten years at the radio station Hot 97. In short, she said it was time to leave because she didn’t feel at home anymore. Upon arriving at Power 105, she was given a show named after her. With her years of experience, she was able to start her own podcast, IRL. Guests on this platform have ranged from Janelle Monáe to Derek Jeter to Taraji P. Henson. Martinez has also written a book about her life titled My Voice, released in 2016. She’s also done some acting, appearing in Paper Soldiers (2002), Brown Sugar (2002), and Paid in Full (2002). Most recently, she appeared on ABC’s special Hip Hop at 50: Rhythms, Rhymes and Reflections, where she hosted panels for figures in rap from the past and present.

Angie Martinez spent her career regularly speaking with artists on the radio, but she also jumped into the rap world for a time. Her start in music came from legendary co-signs. KRS-One put her on his song “Heartbeat” in 1997, and she appeared on the platinum-selling “Ladies Night Remix” of “Not Tonight” by Lil Kim. This one also featured Missy Elliott, Left Eye, and Da Brat. Her debut album, Up Close and Personal, dropped in 2001 and was filled with features from titans in rap. These included Snoop Dogg, Busta Rhymes, Jay-Z, and more. The album’s lead single, “Dem Thangz” was produced by The Neptunes. The album peaked at No. 7 on the Billboard R&B/Hip-Hop. She dropped her next album, Animal House, the following year.

Angie Martinez is an integral part of the culture of hip-hop. She’s been around long enough to see how it has transformed. She was a part of that change herself. As a woman in the industry, she was a trailblazer for those who came after her. She also saw how women have gone from being looked down on in the rap game to often outselling the men. Her love of the culture that started as a teenager ensured her interviewing skills were always top-tier. And her interviewees are legendary, ranging from Tupac to Drake and beyond. Her connections in the music world helped her build long-standing relationships and respect among industry professionals. Her getting a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame is earned and well-deserved.

Lil Uzi Vert Finally Releases “Pink Tape” In All Of Its Glory

After much anticipation and many teasers, Lil Uzi Vert has arrived with his new album, Pink Tape. In the last few months, they and the Generation Now team have hinted at the project’s release, although both parties kept most details surrounding the album under wraps. Finally, the rapper came through with their latest body of work with 26 songs in total. It’s a mesmerizing body of work that continues to carve out Lil Uzi Vert’s colorful and vibrant space in hip-hop.

The rapper’s latest body of work includes some familiar collaborators. Travis Scott appears on “Aye,” which he previewed at a concert on Thursday night (June 29). Meanwhile, Nicki Minaj comes through with another stand-out verse on “Endless Fashion,” extending their track record together. Additionally, the project includes appearances from Don Toliver, Baby Metal, and Bring Me The Horizon. Uzi brings together an eclectic group of collaborators to bring his vision to life, although some might be disappointed that Playboi Carti isn’t anywhere to be seen.

Pink Tape Arrives

It’s been a busy rollout for Lil Uzi Vert’s Pink Tape. The rapper began the campaign for the album with the release of their viral single, “Just Wanna Rock,” – a song that they performed at the Grammys and most recently, at the 2023 BET Awards, where he also debuted a new song from Pink Tape. However, “Just Wanna Rock” became a vibrant anthem that undoubtedly helped popularize the growing trend of Jersey Club production in hip-hop these days. It also spurred a conversation on whether it surpassed Meek Mill’s “Dreams & Nightmares” as the official anthem of Philadelphia. However, Uzi denies that that’s the case.

Pink Tape serves as the official follow-up to 2020’s Eternal Atake, as well as his deluxe edition, Lil Uzi Vert Vs. The World 2. Since then, they continued to keep a stream of music on the way, including his collaborative effort with Future, Pluto X Baby Pluto, and Red & White EP. Uzi’s also been coming through with several stand-out guest verses on records with Veeze, Yeat, Lil Baby, and even Drake, although that particular collaboration has yet to surface. Ice Cube Talks Season Six of The Big 3 and Hip-Hop50

Ice Cube, the legendary co-founder of the BIG3, has kicked off another of the premier 3-on-3 basketball league. The season launched at the United Center in Chicago and will continue with an eight-week regular season that will bring the BIG3 experience to cities such as Boston, Charlotte, Dallas, and New York, culminating in an outdoor festival at the iconic Arthur Ashe Stadium on July 9.

In a groundbreaking move, the BIG3 is expanding its reach beyond North America, with the 2023 Championship Game and All-Star Game scheduled to take place on August 26 at London’s legendary O2 Arena. This marks the first time a BIG3 game will be held outside of North America, showcasing the league’s global appeal. Ice Cube expressed his enthusiasm for the league’s international expansion, promising fans an unforgettable experience.

The Big 3 fan experience also expands to Daily Fantasy Sports, partnering with Prize Picks to offer contests on each week’s action.

“This partnership is going to be amazing for both companies,” said Steven Kerstein, Head of Company Relations and Market Intelligence, Prize Picks. “There’s so many synergies between us. Our customers love basketball first and foremost. That’s our number one sport by far. There’s a huge opportunity, and we think that The Big 3 can captivate basketball fans in the summer.

“A majority of our customers are in their later twenties and early thirties. They grew up watching these players, but will also, through the parameters of the game, will get to learn about new players like Isaiah Briscoe. This is a really powerful opportunity.”

Ice Cube echoes that sentiment, believing the league is back on track to providing an exceptional basketball appearance after conquering the roadblocks of the COVID-19 pandemic.

In an interview with The Source, Ice Cube reveals what fans can expect from The Big 3 in the 2023 season, continuing to grow the league and celebrating Hip-Hop 50.

We are sitting in the middle of Hip-Hop 50. How does it feel for you to look at legends and understand people admire you the same way?

It feels good. A lot of people get into the game for money. When I got in, it was about respect. You want to be respected as a dope MC. The pride, so to speak, is in how people look at you and revere what you have done. To me, that’s better than having numbers and selling 10 million records. Record sales don’t really matter. Respect matters most. Soo

We will circle back on a couple more Hip-Hop things, but we are entering season six of The Big 3. One of the things that I felt was very powerful and attracted many people to this league was your belief in the product as a fan. This is what you wanted to see. Our heroes or people who hit that NBA age wall are forced out the door. How do you feel about the progress The Big 3 has made as both a fan and a businessman?

As a fan, it’s great. I love to watch these guys go at it. When you start to get older in age in the league, your skillset is getting better. It’s like the tricks of the trade, your little sneaky moves, and all that are developed. You’ve honed those in and perfected those. But now, some guys can’t handle those 82 games, full court, back-to-backs, three games in four nights. But half court to 50 once a week, they look just as good as they did when they were out there doing the NBA run. I think we have a great sport that people recognize, and we’re doing it the right way. We’re making our version of the game as exciting as possible. We have four-point shots, “Bring the Fire” rolls, trying to be a faster game, and have a target score of 50. All these things, to me, make our game unique and interesting to watch. We have hand-check and trash-talking. We’ve calibrated the game to where we feel we don’t need to keep tinkering. Wins are hard to come by. I’ve seen teams go 5-0 and then not win another game. It’s a short season, but you must see through the grind. It’s a sprint, ten weeks. It gets pretty rough.

As a businessman, it’s a lot of hurdles that we’ve been able to clear. COVID hit every business, and for us to be able to survive that, when we were just three years in at the time, is pretty remarkable. The last two years, we’ve been coming out of that, and now we are back to the business model that we intended. Going from city to city on a tour and an All-Star game.

You mention that touring element, and now you’re about to go to London. How does it feel to know that you are traveling international waters and can draw an international audience?

It’s nice. You know, one of the things that never dropped was our ratings. We might have had attendance issues because we were in the bubble. This league is not meant to be in one city for ten weeks. It’s hard to sell out anything ten times in a row like that. But the ratings always increased, and we have been shown in over 40 countries since we started. With CBS, we got that reach, and on Paramount Plus, we have our games streaming worldwide. We see the league as a worldwide league because three-on-three basketball is actually more popular across the world than five-on-five in some cases. Especially in Asia. We always saw this as an international play. We went to Toronto before. We been to the Bahamas. We had a tour in China set up before the pandemic, but that got stopped when Daryl Morey said something in China. They took down everything NBA in the country in 24 hours. All the merch out of the stores was off the shelf, couldn’t get it on the Internet, which hurt us too. We have NBA-affiliated guys in Dr. J [Julius Irving] or Iceman [George Gervin]. So we got hit with that. But going to London is incredible. We will have a championship and All-Star games, so we are taking our best players.

The Big 3 also has expansion teams. Evidence of the international play is the Euroball team in expansion. What led to that expansion?

Much like the NBA, people want to come play when you get the best version of the sport in the world. 3-on-3 has often just been played in amateur sports. They want a taste of playing professionally. So we must expand because we’re leaving too many good players on the sideline. It’s not enough spots when it’s only 12 teams.

We got partnerships, players, and expansion. What do you think The Big 3 needs next?

Continuing to have great partners and great investors. Hopefully, soon, great owners to help grow the league and growing teams within cities. That would allow us to do more stuff than what other leagues do. We want to lean into our Young 3 Program, where our players and coaches instruct youth three-on-three basketball. Then we have the youth wearing The Triplets or Three’s Company jerseys. That’s our vision. Of course, we see ourselves expanding and securing more of the summer. That all starts from this season and returning to going from city to city.

The Big 3 has a live music experience. With this being Hip-Hop 50, do we get any cool integrations of that celebration into this season?

In every city, we aim to bring out the people who have done it in that city throughout those 50 years. For Chicago, that’s Twista, Crucial Conflict, and Do or Die. We got Shawnna. We had Chance the Rapper, but he was double booked. We will look for artists essential to Dallas, New York, Memphis, and Charlotte. Some are nationwide, and some are hometown favorites. But we are going to pay homage to those cities.

Outside of The Big 3, will you be doing anything to celebrate Hip-Hop 50? We have you for NWA, Westside Connection, and your solo career. It’s so many avenues.

I’m happy being a part of different celebrations, but I haven’t really thought about hosting something. I got so much to do with the Big 3. I’m supposed to play Yankee Stadium on August 11, a huge 50th anniversary of the Hip-Hop thing. Then Essence Festival for another Hip-Hop celebration. So, me doing anything else would be repetitive.

You have seen so many points of Hip-Hop. It evolves every day. What is something you see today that you really enjoy in the culture?

I love the creativity on the stage. That could be Kendrick Lamar or Drake, Ye. Artists are taking stage shows to another level, which is good to see. That’s what I enjoy most. People taking their show to the next level. People should always push creativity.
