Stephen A. Smith Fires Back At Jaylen Brown After Being Called Out For Slanderous Source

On First Take on Friday, Stephen A. Smith revealed some derogatory remarks on Boston Celtics player Jaylen Brown that he had heard from an “NBA source.” The segment has caused quite a stir on social media, becoming a huge talking point over the weekend. Smith, Kendrick Perkins, and Jay Williams debated on Friday whether Brown was the NBA’s most underappreciated player. He mentioned in closing remarks that he had received a text from an NBA source. According to the unnamed insider, Brown isn’t underappreciated—rather, “he’s just not liked.”

“I wanted to read to y’all what an NBA source just sent me,” Smith said. “He said, ‘Jaylen Brown, it’s not so much that he’s underrated, it’s that he’s just not liked because of his I-am-better-than-you attitude. He knows it. It’s the same reason he is not as marketable as he should be.’ That’s what an NBA source just sent me.” Smith continued by noting that while he personally liked Brown, he did question whether the source’s claims were accurate. The remarks started a beef with NBA Hall of Famer Isiah Thomas, who called what Stephen A. did slander. Brown eventually responded on Twitter, quoting a video of the remarks with “State your source.” Now, Stephen A. has responded.

Stephen A. Smith Claps Back At Jaylen Brown

Stephen A. Smith must have noticed Brown’s tweet since he went back to X to reiterate his position. “First off, that’s not happening. It’s journalism. Not revealing sources,” wrote the Smith. “Secondly, if you continue to watch the segment, I completely disagreed with them — as did Kendrick Perkins. The point we were actually discussing is how under appreciated you are and why that may be, which is why I read the quote. I even brought up how socially conscious you are, and how that may not be liked, knowing you’re a good brother. Also, that you’re a $300M man and you deserve it. But that doesn’t mean naysayers don’t get heard. That comes with the territory.”

In response to the original video, Kendrick Perkins expressed his frustration as well, stating that it omits their uplifting discussion about Brown’s off-court activities. Ultimately, Stephen A. is sure to address this drama in today’s edition of First Take. The anonymous source being able to just trash players with no consequences is nothing new. It was wild that Stephen A. even brought that quote up because it was so disparaging. Overall, the saga may continue this week.

Jaylen Brown Calls Out Stephen A. Smith For Reported Criticism, Gets Support From Isiah Thomas

Jaylen Brown called out Stephen A. Smith on X (formerly Twitter), on Sunday, after the media pundit criticized him on ESPN. When Smith claimed to have an NBA source who argued the Boston Celtics star has an “I am better than you” attitude and isn’t “marketable” because of it. Brown fired back: “State your source.”

NBA legend Isiah Thomas joined in with a message of support for the 27-year-old. “I have been a friend, mentor and advisor to @FCHWPO since he was a student at UC Berkeley he is 100 percent marketable and before you slander his name @stephenasmith tell your source to put their name on it or don’t speak on it. Let it be known,” he wrote.

Afterward, Smith clarified that he had no issues with Brown. Replying to Thomas, he wrote: “I have no idea what you’re talking about @IsiahThomas. I have been a fan of Jaylen Brown for years. Still am. What’s unfortunate is that YOU — who’s known for me decades — would choose to go on X to expressed whatever dissent you feel instead of calling me directly. But I get it. It’s a pattern several folks have used vs me recently, suddenly forgetting communication we’ve always had. So be it. I root for JB always—a great dude and player. But the @celtics have to close the deal.” Check out Jaylen Brown’s response to Stephen A. Smith below..

Stephen A Smith Calls Out LeBron And Warns The Lakers Not To Trust Him In Their Coaching Search

Stephen A. Smith doesn’t think LeBron James is not involved in the Los Angeles Lakers’ hunt for a new head coach. Even though his colleagues at ESPN have reported that he is staying out of the head coaching search, Stephen A. doesn’t buy it, especially when it comes to J.J. Redick’s prospects of winning the coveted position. Los Angeles is searching for a replacement for Darvin Ham, who was let go by the Lakers soon after they were defeated by the Denver Nuggets in the opening round of the 2024 NBA Playoffs.

Redick and James co-host a podcast that was launched in March, which may have contributed to Redick’s rapid rise to the top of the field. Smith and the former NBA player have both featured on ESPN shows, including First Take. After Doc Rivers resigned to take the helm as head coach of the Milwaukee Bucks, he also became a member of the network’s top NBA broadcast crew. Stephen A. Smith thinks LeBron is pulling the strings in the Laker’s search for a new head coach.

Stephen A. Smith Calls out LeBron

“What are we supposed to believe when you know good and damn well that Darvin Ham is on the hot seat and you start a podcast with J.J. Redick,” Stephen A. Smith said. “It’s entitled ‘Mind the Game.’ And on this podcast, you’re talking strategy, you’re talking scheme, you’re talking all of these different things, right? And then lo and behold, J.J. Redick is the leading candidate for the Lakers job.” Smith continued, “We all know that J.J. Redick is the leading candidate for this job. Now, I’m not saying what LeBron’s intent was or whatever. J.J. Redick is doin’ an outstanding job for us as an analyst.”

Stephen A. Smith went on to call out LeBron, saying, “But we all know he wants to be a coach, and I wish him luck. I hope he gets it. I hope he gets it. But here’s the thing with LeBron: If it walks like a duck and it quacks like a duck, bro, it ain’t a damn mongoose. We know what the hell you doin’. We need to just stop the B.S., okay?” Overall, Stephen A. Smith is not buying that LeBron is staying out of the Lakers coaching search.

Stephen A. Smith Fires Back At Draymond Green And Shaq In Fiery Tirade

The Golden State Warriors Draymond Green appeared on Shaquille O’Neal’s “The Big Podcast” yesterday and had some words for Stephen A. Smith. The two talked on a wide range of subjects, including who would win between Greens 2016 Warriors and Shaq’s 2000 Lakers. Additionally, the pair talked about sports media legend Stephen A. Smith. “Stephen A. Smith really pissed me off,” Green told Shaq. He explained his beef with Stephen A., saying that regardless of his on-camera persona, he always defended his character. Draymond claimed Stephen A. did not do the same when Draymond went through his suspension earlier in the NBA season.

Green says he “lost a lot of respect” for Smith as a result.  Following that, on Thursday mornings, Stephen A. Smith addressed both Shaq and Green. He did not hold back. Stephen A. Smith called out Draymond for his comments and let Shaq have some of his fury, too, in a fascinating rant. Stephen A. is one person Draymond should try not to have a war of words with. Stephen A. Threw down the gauntlet of First Take and had to make things very clear to Draymond.

Stephen A. Smith went in on Draymond, saying, ‘I saw what Draymond Green said about me. ‘Well, I’ve now lost respect for him.” He continued, “Listen, Draymond and I… I’ll never hate him. I’ll never have anything but love for him. But I don’t respect what he did. You know my number. You’ve spoken to me before. Why am I hearing about it on Shaq’s podcast?” He then turned his attention briefly to Shaq, saying, “It would have been nice for Shaq to follow up, and say ‘yo, this is Stephen A. you’re talking about. This brother always defends you.’” He continued saying, “We talk about being men. I’m not hard to find! Draymond could have called me up. Draymond could have had a conversation with me.”

Stephen A. Smith went on to say, “I did not do that. You’re going to take a sound bite… You know how much stuff I’ve said positive about Draymond Green? You know how many times I’ve come to the defense of Draymond Green? About his character in the league office, in media, in the newsroom, on podcasts, on various interviews I’ve done?!” He concluded his rant, saying,”’I have never, ever failed to support him… And all I’m saying is if you’re going to have a problem with me, let a brother know.” All in all, Draymond probably should have talked all this out with Stephen A. It seems like he wanted to air his feelings publicly for content.

Stephen A. Smith Believes It’s ‘Over’ for Diddy After Assault Video

Stephen A. Smith, 50 Cent, Lil Wayne, Jennifer Hudson and More Set for 2024 Ruffles® NBA All-Star Celebrity Game

Many celebrity reporters and journalists have weighed in on the 2016 video footage showing P. Diddy assaulting his former girlfriend Cassie, leading to widespread opinions and criticism.

Among those voicing their thoughts is sports commentator Stephen A. Smith, known for his outspoken nature. Smith declared that the producer and singer’s career is over following the video’s release.

On his podcast, Smith spoke harshly about the issue, clearly stating that he did not hold back his feelings towards Diddy and the situation.

“I want to declare, right here, over these digital airwaves of YouTube that the career of Sean ‘P. Diddy’ Combs as we know it, is over,” Stephen A. began saying on his social media program. “This s**t is over. It’s over in the worst possible way. One of the worst possible ways that you can imagine.”

But the criticism didn’t stop there. Smith added, “I have the video right in front of me. We can’t show it to you. But I’m watching this with the sound off as we speak. She’s walking down the hallway in a hoodie, y’all. Clearly tryna sneak out of the hotel room. We see him come sprinting down the hallway in just a towel. That’s it. He goes up to her, snatches her by the neck, yanks her to the ground. She lays there, still. OK? I’m looking at the video while I’m talking to you. He snatches her by the neck. Unless this is some look-a-like. Unless this is some clone. Unless this is somebody from Mission Impossible, like Tom Cruise, wearing somebody else’s face, looking exactly like them when it ain’t them at all.”

Smith made a comparison to the infamous video of former NFL running back Ray Rice, who like Diddy (allegedly) was filmed by a security camera, but actually in an elevator where he punched and presumably knocked out his fiancée in 2013. That incident ended his football career. Like Rice, guessing the end may be near for “Brother Love.”

Stephen A Smith Claims Diddy’s Career Is Over After Assault Footage

The Diddy bombshell has taken over popular culture. Celebrities are coming out of the woodwork to voice their disgust over the footage of Diddy assaulting Cassie in a hotel hallway. Other executives like Wack 100 have warned Diddy that he’s going to get what’s coming to him. Artists who worked under the Bad Boy mogul, like Aubrey O’Day, suggest that there are more horror stories to be revealed. Then there are the Stephen A Smiths of the world, who plainly state that Diddy’s career is done for.

Stephen A Smith addressed the Diddy footage on the May 17 taping of his show. He did not mince words. As far as he’s concerned, it’s a wrap. “I declare, right here,” he explained. “Over these digital airwaves of YouTube, that the career of Sean ‘P. Diddy’ Combs, as we know it, it’s over.” Smith believes that the new footage that has surfaced is so damning that no amount of rehabilitation or rebranding can bring Diddy back. “This sh*t is over,” he elaborated. “It’s over in the worst possible way… One of the worst possible ways you can imagine.”

Stephen A Smith Compared Diddy To NFL Star Ray Rice

Stephen A Smith recounted the footage that was exclusively obtained by CNN, and the public outcry that has resulted. He then compared Diddy to the harrowing case of NFL star Ray Rice. “Remember Ray Rice? Remember what happened,” he asked the viewers. “Late 2014 when his girl was in the elevator and she either shoved him or hit him and then he check-left-hooked her? And hit her, and knocked her face into the bar inside the elevator? She hit her head to it and then she laid on the floor, unconscious? In the elevator, straight up, knocked out.” Smith then asserted that the Diddy footage is “worse.”

Smith’s opinion walks back previous comments he made about Diddy. During a March interview, the sports commentator claimed that Diddy would have an easier time mounting a comeback than Kanye West, who had been disgraced over numerous antisemitic remarks. He did, however, note that he did not have all the facts on the Diddy allegations. “If they charge him with something,” he qualified. “We can’t think like that. That’s a different ballgame.” Well, due to the footage, it is now a different ballgame.

Stephen A. Smith Says Kevin Durant Is Unhappy In Phoenix

Stephen A. Smith said today on First Take that Suns superstar Kevin Durant is unhappy in Phoenix. After getting swept by the Minnesota Timberwolves, the Phoenix Suns have now fired their head coach Frank Vogel. They have now hired NBA title-winning coach Mike Budenholzer, who was fired by Miluwalkeue after getting eliminated from the first round of the playoffs two seasons ago. The Suns have a ton of question marks, including the future of its star players, Kevin Durant and Devin Booker. Stephen A. Smith calls the Durant situation a “problem” for the franchise.

“All of us covering the NBA are fully aware of Kevin Durant in Phoenix is a problem. It is a problem. We don’t see it because the stats are there. Him and Booker average 27 points per game and what have you. But they say Kevin Durant is never happy,” said Smith on First Take. Stephen A believes the situation may come to a head sooner rather than later. Kevin Durant is an aging superstar, and his future in Phoenix is looking to be on shaky ground, according to folks around the league.

Stephen A. Says Durant “Is A Problem” For Phoenix

Stephen A. Smith went into detail on the things he has heard surrounding Kevin Durant, saying, “They say that he went more than a month without even talking to the head coach. They say that he doesn’t look happy there and all he wants to do is play when the game starts and tip-off time arrives, but when it comes to ingratiating yourself with your teammates and getting along with everybody and stuff like that, he just lives in his own world.” He goes on to explain that he keeps to himself and he isn’t hated, but his loner attitude rubs people the wrong way.

Stephen A Smith explains why his personality is rubbing people the wrong way, saying, “Why does that matter? It’s similar to what he was doing in Golden State before he ultimately departed, which is what was driving Draymond Green crazy, which is why they ultimately got into it on the court in that Clippers game and what have you. Because you hear stuff. You hear stuff.” He went on to conclude his KD statements, saying, “There’s more than that. Make no mistake, it’s not all on Kevin Durant. But that’s a big, big part of it.” Overall, Stephen A. is reporting what he has heard about KD and how it might impact their decisions this off-season.

Stephen A Smith Believes Drake & Kendrick Lamar Are Taking Things Too Far

The Drake and Kendrick Lamar rap beef is still ongoing. After a weekend that featured multiple songs from each artist, there have been a couple of days of silence on both fonts. Fans and onlookers who have been exhausted by the whirlwind of diss tracks and information in the beef have been able to couch up and catch their breath. Everyone seems to have an opinion on the beef. It’s the cultural event of the moment right now and has been a pretty vicious back and forth. Both rappers have alleged nefarious things about the other to varying degrees. ESPN personality Stephen A. Smith thinks it has gone too far.

Stephen A., known for speaking his mind, had many thoughts about the direction the beef has taken. Yesterday, Stephen A. Smith took the time to address the ongoing rap feud between Drake and Kendrick Lamar. Stephen A. said the beef has gone incredibly too far and has strayed from who is the better artist or lyricist. Stephen A. Smith explained his position on the beef on his show, The Stephen A. Smith Show.

Stephen A. Smith Says Drake Vs Kendrick Beef Is Too Toxic

Stephen A. Smith says, “The shi*t ain’t cool,” when beginning his rant on the Kendrick Drake Beef. He goes on to say the personal and inflammatory accusations and mentions of pedophilia and family members have been out of line. Smith then goes on to describe his connections to hip-hop, saying he grew up in the hip-hop generation and was around the greats from NYC, where he grew up. Stephen A. describes what he believes rap beef should stick to. He believes it should be strictly on artistic and lyrical ability. Stephen A. has no time for the gossip and the remarks made by either rapper. Smith says that we don’t know if any of it is true and that it’s not our business.

He is thankful that the beef will hopefully not turn violent. He also credits j Cole for bowing out of the feud weeks ago. Stephen A. Smith is in disbelief over the whole ordeal and cannot believe where it has gone. Ultimately, Stephen A. says the beef is making them both look bad.

Stephen A Smith Gives His Advice To Deion Sanders’ Sons

Deion Sanders has been in the midst of some controversy during the college football off-season. After a disappointing season in his first year at Colorado, Sanders has been deflecting blame and lashing out at players who have left the program. He has been accused by former players of destroying his players’ confidence. After the news hit of his players’ comments, Deion started going after them on social media. Joining Deion on his social media crusade against their detractors are his sons Shedeur and Shilo Sanders. This activity on social media has made pundits like Stephen A. Smith question their decisions.

Publicly criticizing former players is not a good look. It’s even worse when your sons join you in this behavior. Colorado has experienced a mass exodus of players. Sanders primarily recruits from the transfer portal and has yet to make any significant recruiting moves. The priority should be on a successful season, as the consequences of failure could be severe for everyone involved. Stephen A. Smith’s advice for the Sanders brothers and their use of social media is crucial in this context.

Stephen A. Smith Warns Deion Sanders Kids

Stephen A. Smith tells Shilo and Shedeur that, first and foremost, they will always have his support because of their father. Stephen A. considers Deion Sanders a brother, and that’s why he wants them to listen to his advice. The ESPN personality lets the Sanders boys know that how they are communicating and coming across on social media is unbecoming because they haven’t earned anything yet like their father. He understands they are protective of their father but reminds them that how they defend him and communicate is important. He reminded them that they represent Colorado and their father, so what they say holds weight.

Stephen A. also reminded Shedeur of how he celebrated last season by showing off his expensive watch. He said the young quarterbacks celebrated when they won, but they lost more than they won last season. Overall, the Deion Sanders Colorado situation is turning into a mess. It is looking more and more likely that they might not have a better season than they did last year. Ultimately, we can count on the Sanders family placing blame on any and everyone but themselves.

Stephen A Smith Was Devastated After Dramatic Knicks Loss

The New York Knicks and the Philidelphia 76ers have been the most entertaining first-round playoff matchup. Last night, the Sixers miraculously beat the Knicks behind some Madison Square Garden heroics from Tyler Maxey. The Knicks had the game all wrapped up, and then Maxey went on an absolute clutch time tear reminiscent of Reggie Miller in 1995. They made several mistakes in the closing minutes of regulation that allowed Maxey’s flurry of points to bring the game to Overtime. The Knicks made more mistakes and lost the game 112-106, with the Sixers making the series 3-2 and heading back to Philadelphia. Like every Knicks fan last night, NBA analyst and Knicks supporter Stephen A. Smith was devastated.

The Knicks thought to have Game 5 and their series against the 76ers all wrapped up on Tuesday night at the Garden. The Knicks’ supporters, including Stephen A. Smith, were in full disbelief following Maxey’s four-point shot. After the game, Stephen A. posted a video of his reaction on Twitter. His devastation was palpable, his heartbreak echoing that of every Knicks fan. Stephen A. truly captured what it felt like to be a Knicks fan last night, and it was a tough time for all.

Stephen A. Smith’s Devastated Reaction To Knicks Loss

Smith, a Knicks fan and host of ESPN “First Take,” posted on X immediately after the devastating defeat and seemed to be experiencing mixed emotions of frustration and sadness. The “Dang!” after the prolonged silent disbelief was the perfect start to Smith’s response. He asked, “Why did Mitchell Robinson foul Tyrese Maxey on that 3-point shot?” Smith questioned. “Why did Josh Hart make the turnover on the outlet pass? Why did he not convert both free throws instead of just one? What’s the reason why he seemed so erratic throughout the game?”

Smith then turned his tirade at Jalen Brunson, who scored 40 points at the game’s conclusion. He said of Jalen, “As great as Jalen Brunson was overall with his 40-point performance, did you not notice you had four teammates on the court with you in overtime to pass the ball to instead of taking every damn shot?” the Knicks crunch time offensive was terrible and its the reason they squandered the game away. After missing the opportunity to win the series at home, the Knicks now have to go to Philadelphia for Game 6 on Thursday.
