Stephen A Smith Blasts The BET Awards For Honoring OJ Simpson

Stephen A Smith gets mad. It’s what he does for a living. He’s an overreactor. That being said, he does provide some fair insights. SAS correctly called out Diddy for deleting the Cassie apology video. And he was understandably thrown by the fact that the BET Awards chose to pay tribute to O.J. Simpson. O.J. is about as controversial a pop culture figure as there is, and Smith felt there a BET tribute was not a fitting place to bring him up.

Stephen A Smith hashed all of this out on his self-titled podcast. He described the BET Awards as a celebration of Black culture, and Black excellence, in particular. As such, O.J. Simpson, a disgraced former NFL star, doesn’t fit Smith’s checklist. Worst, the analyst feels like it casts the rest of the Black entertainers in a negative light. “When you do something like this,” he told BET. “You got folks outside saying ‘see that.’ TMZ talking about it. NBC talking about it… When that kind of stuff happens, how do you think that benefits us?”

Stephen A Smith Thought O.J.’s Tribute Looked Bad

Stephen A Smith used the O.J. tribute to make a broader point. “That’s a story we don’t get into nearly as much as we should,” he posited. “Did it ever occur to anybody?” Smith clarified that he does place blame on anybody in the audience, but rather the network. “Even though BET is owned by Paramount, there’s Black folks everywhere. All up in there. And that’s what we celebrate?” The analyst stated that the Black community is going to be held accountable for lionizing O.J. Simpson, whether it’s subliminally or not. “People are going to look at us with raised eyebrows,” he opined. “And think as a community, ‘oh you down with that.’”

This is not the first time Smith has given his opinion on O.J. Simpson. When the Hall of Fame athlete died in April, Smith criticized him for, well, getting away with murder. “Most people believe that he committed those murders,” he proclaimed. “If I was on the jury, he would’ve been under the damn jail. I know that much. I believe he was guilty, but I don’t know.” Given this aggressive stance, it should come as no surprise that the analyst does not want to be associated with Simpson anytime soon.

Stephen A Smith Is Sick And Tired Of The Bronny James Nepotism Criticism

Stephen A Smith speaks on numerous topics within the sports world. Overall, he has a lot to talk about these days, especially as it pertains to the NBA Draft. Yesterday, Bronny James was taken by the Los Angeles Lakers with the 55th pick in the draft. This has subsequently led to a massive debate about whether or not this was a nepotism move. After all, Bronny was not exactly NBA Draft material last season. However, with his father on the Lakers, it was a foregone conclusion that they would take him.

As for Stephen A Smith, he takes issue with some of the discourse going around. As you can see in the clip below, Smith explains how white executives and coaches around the NBA have gotten away with nepotism for years. He feels like LeBron has paid his dues, and that a little nepotism from the second-greatest player in the history of the league really isn’t that bad. Simply put, he wants a lot of hot-take artists to shut up right now.

Stephen A Smith Makes His Case

“We live in a country where nepotism has taken place with white folks religiously forever,” Stephen A Smith said. “We’ve said little to nothing about it. In the NBA specifically, in a league where at least 70% of the players are Black, we’ve seen nepotism with white folks all over the place… and now this happens with LeBron James, a member of the Mount Rushmore of basketball, and all of a sudden you’ve got people running their mouths.”

Smith also went on to say the Rockets are in no position right now to get KD. Head coach Ime Udoka would love to have the superstar on the roster, but the front office feels differently. Stephen A Smith Blasts Diddy For Deleting Cassie Apology Video

Diddy made another questionable move on June 21. The disgraced music mogul deleted all the posts from his Instagram, including his apology video to Cassie. The decision sparked lots of speculation, with some positing that it may be a tactic to avoid further legal troubles. Others interpreted Diddy’s decision as him taking back his apology to Cassie. The backlash grew so quickly that a representative for Diddy issued a statement clarifying that Diddy stands by his apology. This statement wasn’t good enough for Stephen A Smith, however.

The sports analyst took Diddy’s decision and ran with it during the June 25 episode of his podcast. He took Diddy to task for wiping his IG feed and refusing to leave the apology video up, in particular. “If you had a million photos,” Stephen A Smith stated. “And you decided to delete 999,999 of them, that’s the one you should’ve kept up. If you’re sincere. You got 20 million followers on Instagram.” Smith made it clear that he was baffled by Diddy’s decision, given how it’s been interpreted. “Why did you delete that video of the apology,” he asked. “Don’t you want people to know that you were contrite.”

Stephen A Smith Is Baffled By Diddy’s PR Decision

The rant continues from there. Stephen A Smith laid out the different ways in which deleting the video makes Diddy look worse. “By deleting the video,” he asserted. “You throw all of that out the window. The possibility of the very few people who would ever believe that.” SAS then turned his focus towards the Diddy PR team. “Who are your PR people,” he yelled. “Who are these people? Where is the advice?” He then proceeded to give his advice as to how the Bad Boy founder should have handled the situation.

Unsurprisingly, Smith would have told the mogul to leave the apology video up. “I’d have said never delete your account and never delete that video,” he explained. “Leave that up forever. Because that was you apologizing. And owning up to your transgression. You deleting it from your account… that wasn’t smart.” The final dagger Stephen A Smith delivered was aimed squarely at Diddy. “It comes across,” he opined. “As you wanting to erase everything as opposed to you wanting to be accountable for everything.”

Stephen A. Smith Throws Shade At Kahwi Leonard Straight To His Clippers Teammate Paul George’s Face

Paul George took Josh Hart’s place as the fifth cast member on the pregame and noticeably shortened halftime show when he joined the NBA Countdown team for Games 3 and 4. Because the Dallas Mavericks eliminated George and the Los Angeles Clippers in the opening round of the NBA playoffs, George is available. George averaged 19.5 points while playing in all six of the series games. Meanwhile, Kawhi Leonard played in just two games in the series. It was the third straight postseason where Leonard missed the end of the Clippers postseason with injury. Stephen A. Smith made a point of referencing this on NBA Countdown, saying, “Nobody on the planet knows what it’s like to play without a star than Paul George.”

On set, this sparked a variety of emotions. Malika Andrews and George chuckled right away, while Bob Myers and Michael Wilbon seemed a little taken aback. George hurriedly warned, “Don’t do that,” and Bob Myers chimed in and told Goerge, “Don’t react to that.” Nevertheless, Smith must not have heard him since, half an hour later, he cracked the identical joke. The team was less accommodating at that time.

Stephen A. Smith Throws Shade At Kahwi Leonard In Front Of His Clippers Teammate Paul George

Although everyone was smiling and the talk was lighthearted, Smith made a highly impolitic act that would have put George in a difficult situation with his co-star Kawhi. In addition, George may need to look for housing when he pursues a max contract extension with the Clippers this summer. Since his season-long absence in the 2017–18 NBA season, Kawhi has been among the most injury-prone superstars in the league. Leonard’s health issues on the Clippers persisted, even after he elevated load management to the top of NBA discussions by helping Kawhi lead the Toronto Raptors to an NBA Championship.

Even if George hasn’t exactly been a shining example of availability, Leonard is a player who is more prone to injuries than George. Even so, this isn’t the first time Stephen A. has disparaged Kawhi. A couple of weeks ago, Stephen A Smith called out Clippers star Kawhi Leonard. “He’s The Worst Superstar In Sports,” Smith said of Kawhi. Overall, Stephen A. has a serious bone to pick with Leonard.

Yvette Nicole Brown Is Sick Of Stephen A. Smith After Will Smith Debacle

Stephen A. Smith recently stated that he believes people are not ready to see Will Smith at the cinema because he needs to make up for the black community. It is obvious that Smith did not notice how much money Bad Boys 4 grossed at the box office. Smith spoke as an authority for the black community, which many online rolled their eyes at. Stephen A. Smith was inundated with calls and letters from people who disagreed with his viewpoint and who refused his notion that Will Smith needed to sit down with the black community and apologize. Yvette Nicole Brown is among those tired of Stephen A.s takes on the matter, and she sounded off on social media.

Smith stated that he intended his remarks to be understood by Black people who aspired to be in Hollywood. He claimed he was worried white people would caricature Black performers as a result of Will Smith’s actions. “It was a blemish on all of us.” Smith said of Smith “Because I know how much white America reveres Will Smith and the thinking along the lines in my mind was, hell if he did that, what would the rest of us do. There are certain things that happen in the lives of an individual where those incidences are used as a license to castigate the rest of us.” He walked back his statements, but Yvette Nicole brown didn’t buy his explanation.

Yvette Nicole Brown Is Sick Of Stephen A. Smith

Yvette Nicole Brown went off on Stephen A. Smith. She said on twitter, “I am SO SICK of this dude’s idiotic, pseudo-intellectual, GARBAGE hot takes.” Yvette continued, “He does NOT speak for the Black community even when he speaks very LOUDLY. I don’t need a sit down with Will Smith. He and I are good. And I’m speaking for just me. Not anybody else.” She emphatically concluded her tirade by writing, “This is just me too: I’ve had ENOUGH of #SAS.” She is echoing many people’s feelings towards Stephen A., who has always seemed disconnected from the community he claims authority over.

Disgruntled parties sent Stephen A. a deluge of phone calls and emails. They refused to give up on their refusal to cancel Will Smith. When Stephen A. Smith saw a video of Black fans swarming Will Smith, 55, during a Bad Boys: Ride or Die showing, he became certain that the star was still adored. So I got to stand down,” Stephen A. Smith conceded. Overall, Stephen A. was pressed by a lot of people because of his out-of-touch comments about Will Smith. Overall, people like Yvette Nicole Brown have had enough of Stephen A. Stephen A. Smith Goes Off On Peter Rosenberg In Unhinged Rant After Caitlin Clark Criticism

Stephen A. Smith has been at the forefront of the Caitlin Clark discourse for the past few weeks. Yesterday, he called the decision to leave Caitlin Clark off of Team USA for the Olympics “stupid.” Additionally, he has gotten into heated arguments with several woman cohosts like Monica McNutt and Andraya Carter, both of whom are more informed about the WNBA than he is. Furthermore, Caitlin Clark is a political lightning rod for many people, and Smith is included in that number. Peter Rosenberg recently commented on the Caitlin Clark drama and mentioned Stephen A. Smith by name.  All in all, the comments seem to have really gotten to Stephen A.

Stephen A. Smith made a special rant before taking off for Dallas to cover Wednesday’s NBA finals game 3. He responds to Rosenberg by saying that Stephen A. has jumped on Caitlin Clark and is being treated unfairly. His point actually makes a lot of sense. Rosenberg said plainly that Caitlin Clark herself just wanted to play basketball. Nevertheless, she has become a symbol of something controversial for people like Stephen A. to latch on to. He says the idea that she is being treated unfairly is unfair to the other women of the WNBA, who are being treated like props. Additionally, Peter Rosenberg says that if that’s the angle you are going for, then maybe you don’t really care about the actual women’s game itself. Stephen A. took major offense.

Stephen A. Smith Claps back at Peter Rosenberg

Peter Rosenberg believes that Caitlin Clark has unwillingly become the face of white fragility and that Stephen A. Smith has hopped on that train. Stephen A. is very upset if you watch the clip. He curses throughout the rant and is personally offended by the acquisition. Additionally, he clarifies his position about Caitlin Clark being left off the Olympic team. Smith says that she doesn’t deserve to be on the team. Nevertheless, Smith cares about marketing more than anything and says that the team needs Caitlin Clark to grow the sport. Nevertheless, Rosenberg’s point about actually caring about the games being played is reinforced by Smith’s own doubling down.

Stephen A. Smith does not take criticism well and personally went after Rosenberg in his 11-minute rant. It is pretty funny that Smith was literally about to hop on a flight and stopped everything to rant about a slight diss. Overall, Stephen A. Smith is not someone who admits they are wrong or changes their position. Ultimately, he cares about money and views more than anything, which is why First Take continues to push out Caitlin Clark’s debates. All in all, Peter Rosenberg will more than likely respond in due time.
