Billie Eilish Delivers Soul-Crushing “Barbie” Ballad With “What Was I Made For”

Billie Eilish is one of the biggest artists in the entire world right now. Although she isn’t exactly in the hip-hop lane, she still makes a huge impact on the music world as a while. Her debut album was a massive success, and her follow-up was also huge. Overall, she has tons of hits to her name, including a James Bond theme song. That in and of itself is massive, and it is enough to get fans excited for some of the other soundtrack songs she may produce.

Well, as it turns out, Billie Eilish is one of the many artists on the Barbie soundtrack. Of course, we already got a song from the likes of Nicki Minaj and Ice Spice. However, many have been waiting on this new Billie track. It was rumored that she would be dishing out a very emotional song. As it turns out, those predictions were 100 percent correct. “What Was I Made For” is officially here, and it is just as sad as advertised. In fact, it may just be a whole lot sadder.

Billie Eilish Delivers A Tear-Jerker

Throughout the song, Billie Eilish sings from the prospective of what can only be described as a doll looking for a purpose. The piano keys are dark and extremely sad. Additionally, Billie’s vocals are emotionally driven with lyrics that can eat you apart if you’re not ready for them. When you think of the Barbie movie, you probably think of upbeat and uptempo music. However, this is not the case with “What Was I Made For.” You have to appreciate the change in tone.

Blxst & Remble Join Forces For New “child of GOD” Collab Track

Blxst has impressed us already with his work in 2023 so far, from his appearance on Labo4oe’s “Tada” to his Just For Clarity 2 EP. The latter previously gave R&B lovers four new songs to revel in, including “Passionate” featuring Roddy Ricch, “Keep Calling” with Larry June, and the Mustard-produced “Ghetto Cinderella” alongside Terrace Martin. His most recent work came in the form of “West Coast Weekend” with YG and Tyga last month, but Blxst knows that’s not enough to keep his fans satisfied all through the summer.

On Tuesday (July 11), the vocalist surprised us with a new single called “child of GOD,” which finally finds him connecting with West Coast artist Remble. Blxst begins the song with a catchy chorus followed by a reflective verse. “Yeah, and I done seen it all above / The hate, the love, the fake handshakes, the genuine hugs / It is what it is, yeah, was what it was / I done really lost friends, that’s what success does,” he contemplates.

Blxst is Feeling Like a “child of GOD” on New Remble Collab

For his part, Remble brings his signature flow to the beat, praising the Lord and reminding listeners that things come easier when you surrender to the divine plan. While speaking with Zane Lowe on Apple Music 1, Blxst explained how their genre-bending single came to be. “Remble, for example, the dichotomy between him and me, it’s just like good and evil. People love to see those things meshed together. And even on ‘child of GOD,’ that was the constant theme in the song, seeing the good, no matter what evil you’re surrounded by,” he told the host.

Blueface Reflects On His “House Arrest” In New Single: Stream

Blueface is obviously no stranger to controversy. Earlier this month he got the internet seriously riled up with his parenting techniques. At the time, the Californian shared a video of his 6-year-old son on Instagram. He accused the young boy of being “gay” for looking for snacks rather than hanging out with strippers. After the video went viral, Blue’s mother, Karlissa Saffold, spoke out in defense of her son. Still, it remained unclear why the rapper had nearly naked women at home with his kids.

Now that he’s dropped his “House Arrest” single, everything is beginning to add up. The soon-to-be father of three hired dancers to join him at home for a day of filming the track’s accompanying music video, which finds Blueface reflecting on how he’s been spending his days while stuck at home with an ankle monitor strapped to him at all times.

Blueface is Back with More New Music

As the video begins, we see the 26-year-old playing video games and smoking a blunt before pausing to plug his monitor in. As he spits his bars he’s joined by a group of curvaceous females who entertain him by doing the splits across the kitchen counter while bouncing their booties. Blueface’s baby mama, Jaidyn Alexis, was reportedly home as the visual was being filmed. She doesn’t make an appearance, however, it was just a few weeks ago that the mother of two dropped her own “Stewie” single under her co-parent’s MILF Music label.

Ransom & Nicholas Craven Tap Talib Kweli & Raina Simone For “Minority Report”

Jersey City MC Ransom and producer Nicholas Craven recently released a full-length collaborative project, Directors Cut 4. For fans of soulful and sample-heavy production, intricate rhymes, and a refreshed take on classic hip-hop, this is one of the most notable releases of the week. Although it contains plenty of standouts, one that’s bound to particularly resonate with fans is the stacked “Minority Report.” Featuring Talib Kweli and Raina Simone, this song focuses on authenticity, talent within hip-hop, and emerging from a system that is stacked against you. There are a lot of heavy street bars on here, as well as more spiritual fare and comments on political oppression, but don’t let this denseness put you off.

For starters, the beat by Nicholas Craven might remind listeners of some of Ransom’s earlier beats like “Sinatra’s Demons.” Like that song, this track contains some powerful strings and a minimal but still noticeable drum pattern to keep the song grounded. Also, there’s an interesting mix between these strings and some faint background vocals that seem more ghostly than anything else. Considering the track’s weighted subject matter, this just adds to the drama and impact of the sharp bars. For example, the legendary Talib Kweli’s verse takes more of a violence-oriented focus, speaking on snitches and posturing in the world of crime.

Ransom & Nicholas Craven’s “Minority Report”

Matched with Ransom’s opening verse and chorus, this makes for a bittersweetly triumphant cut. To close things off before the last chorus, lyricist Raina Simone delivers a killer verse about her struggles, experience, and legacy as a Black woman. Even though this songs packs a deep punch, it still thrives in the fundamentals of the genre (like much of his material) to make an engaging listen. If you haven’t heard Directors Cut 4 yet, you can find it on your preferred streaming service and peep some notable lines from “Minority Report” down below. DoggyStyleeee & Snoop Dogg Want You To “Say It Witcha Chest” On New Single

When Snoop Dogg connects with someone inspired so much by his debut album that he named himself as such, you know it’s bound to create fireworks. Moreover, DoggyStyleeee tapped the West Coast legend for a West Coast banger on their new track “Say It Witcha Chest.” As this collaboration suggests, this is a California-style instrumental with rubbery bass, minimal hi-hats, a sharp snare and cymbal hits, and a slinky and airy synth line. In addition, there are some stripped-back keys leading the track’s melody that especially take prominence during the verses, cooling the song off. Overall, if you’re a big fan of this sound, we highly recommend your hear Tha Doggfather and an underground Cali veteran slide on this track.

As far as the song’s structure, there’s quite a catchy hook here that’s as brag-heavy and confident as the song’s title suggests. With two verses, one from each MC, it actually keep listeners engaged with consistent flow switch-ups and some contrasting deliveries. While DoggyStyleeee comes through with a bit more raucous and animated energy, Snoop Dogg sounds as laidback and as effortlessly cool and collected as ever. Of course, lyrically, it’s very much in line for a track like “Say It Witcha Chest”: a lot of machismo, street talk, and some more seductive bars spread out across sharp and emphatic lines.

DoggyStyleee & Snoop Dogg’s “Say It Witcha Chest”

Meanwhile, the Long Beach legend has a lot to celebrate amid the release of new music. For example, he recently reacted positively to Death Row winning the title for BET’s best rap crew of all time over the likes of Wu-Tang, YMCMB, and many others. Even though he’s a certified icon, it’s never too late to stay on that musical grind.
