Joey Bada$$ Reacts To Surprising Demise in ‘Power Book III: Raising Kanan’

Joey Bada$$ Reacts To Surprising Demise in ‘Power Book III: Raising Kanan’

As reported on Shadow and Act … Oh, wait SPOILER ALERT … Cool? Carrying on. So basically, a body was rolling unceremoniously down a hill on Friday’s episode of Power Book III: Raising Kanan. And if that’s what we think it is, then rapper turned-actor Joey Bada$$ is done for in the series.

This past weekend, the artist who plays the role of Kadeem “Unique” Mathis posted a caption that read “Unique Forever.” Whelp, take that for what you will.

ICYMI, on the last episode of Power Book III: Raising Kanan, it got tense between Bada$$’s character and his bro, Ronnie, played by Grantham Coleman. This seemingly led to Unique’s demise.

“Unique is the younger brother of Ronnie, so I feel like this is the first time that people can see Unique [excited about something],” Joey Bada$$ told Shadow and Act in an interview (which you can view in full above) ahead of the season’s premiere. “You see the excitement in Unique. You almost see his inner child a little bit, like, ‘Wow, Ronnie’s home. My big brother.’ And you get to see a little more vulnerability from Unique this season, which I think adds a very interesting layer.”

To Power fans, Unique was a big-time drug lord but had a softer side as the love interest of Patina Miller’s character Raquel Thomas.

“Despite these two characters having moments of wanting to tear each other’s heads off, I think there was always an undeniable chemistry between them,” Joey Bada$$ recalled. “Viewers can definitely expect to see that chemistry explored a little bit and I think it plays on this new layer of Unique’s vulnerability. I think it’ll be interesting to see what happens between Unique and Raq.”

To give you a refresher, Power Book III: Raising Kanan was created by Sascha Penn. This marks the third spinoff series in the Power franchise. Played by MeKai Curtis, it tells the story of Kanan Stark’s younger years rising in the illicit drug business during the 90s. What a time to be alive. Joey Bada$$ has been in the series as Unique since the beginning of 2021 and was one of the original cast members … Damn. RIP, Unique.

This exciting news comes ahead of the highly anticipated Season Three premiere on Dec. 1. The production for the new season is scheduled to kick off this week in New York.

“We’re thrilled to continue Kanan Stark’s story, and for fans to see how the events of his formative adolescent years continue to mold him into the cold-hearted villain they were first introduced to in ‘Power.’ We are quite sure that after viewers see the battle lines being drawn between Raq and Kanan on this epic upcoming third season that they will demand more,” said Kathryn Busby, President of Original Programming for STARZ.

50 Cent Gives Fans First Look At “Raising Kanan” Season 3

50 Cent released the first trailer for Power Book III: Raising Kanan‘s third season on his Instagram, to the delight of fans. “So [shocked face emoji] I have the best tour and the best shows? How ya feel about it [Shrug emoji],” Fif captioned the post.

The trailer gives a nice little taste of what’s coming for the characters as they continue trying to conquer the Big Apple. Raquel’s desire to leave the game is stymied by a new and uneasy alliance with the old guard of New York’s mob scene. Meanwhile, still beefing with Raquel, Kanan seemingly strikes out on his own to make a name for himself. However, that appears to put in squarely in the crosshairs of both Raquel and the newly-freed Unique. “They won’t all be able to complete this intensely personal quest, but for those who do, the destination may reveal the most terrifying secret of all. There is no right and wrong or good and evil. There are no absolutes. In the end, there’s just you,” read STARZ’s synopsis for the season.

Fif’s Spirit Hustle Gets A New Partner

However, a new season of Power isn’t the only thing Fif has got going on at the moment. It’s a city that exudes creativity and soul, and it’s an honor to partner with an organization like the New Orleans Saints that embodies those same values. Together, we aim to create unforgettable moments and experiences for the city and its fans,” the rapper said in a statement.

Meanwhile, the Saints were just as excited to bring Fif on board. “We are truly excited to partner with Sire Spirits. This collaboration represents a perfect blend of the energy and enthusiasm both the New Orleans Saints and Sire Spirits bring to the table. We believe this partnership will further enhance the game-day experience for our fans both inside and outside of the Caesars Superdome,” said Matt Webb, the team’s Vice President of Corporate Partnerships.

50 Cent’s “Power Book III: Raising Kanan” Will Return With Season 3 In December

50 Cent’s built an incredibly successful empire around his Starz shows, and the future looks bright for his other projects with Fox and other partners. Still, there’s a whole lot more to discover, unearth, and enjoy when it comes to the “Power” universe and all its spinoffs. Moreover, one of the most acclaimed installments in the whole franchise will return for its third season later this year. The network announced on Monday (August 28) that “Power Book III: Raising Kanan” will premiere on December 1. Not only that, but this means that it’ll come out shortly after the second season of “Power Book IV: Force” wraps up this year, and that premieres this Friday (September 1).

Furthermore, the last we heard of Kanan and the crew was in October of 2022, so fans have been waiting for this for some time. “They won’t all be able to complete this intensely personal quest, but for those who do, the destination may reveal the most terrifying secret of all,” Starz wrote in a synopsis of the upcoming season in the “Power” series. “There is no right and wrong or good and evil. There are no absolutes. In the end, there’s just you.”

Stills From The Upcoming Third Season Of “Power Book III: Raising Kanan”

What’s more is that “Book IV” is equally as beloved and anticipated, with lead actor Joseph Sikora telling HipHopDX of its greatness recently. “Let me tell you, the second season is way better,” he said of the “Power” spinoff. “It’s like, we got Chicago- the first season, it didn’t. I don’t think so. I think they used Chicago as a backdrop. You’re telling me there’s one Black gang in Chicago and they run everything? Nobody’s trying to light that place up? There’s not divisions within that? The first season, the Latin thing- listen, she was great but that’s it? Chicago’s one of the most Latin cities in the entire continent. It’s the third-largest Mexican population in the world.”

In addition, Sikora spoke of the production changes that new showrunner Gary Lennon brought to improve the series. “Give props to Gary Lennon,” he remarked. “He was the showrunner for ‘Power’ Season 5 and Season 6. He’s from Hell’s Kitchen and his brothers were gangsters (Westies). He is the voice of the Tommy Egan character so it’s going to be authentic. Watch Season 2. It’s as legit as a season of ‘Ozark.’” For more news and the latest updates on the “Power” franchise, come back to HNHH.
