SZA & Quincy Jones Lead Tommy Hilfiger’s 2023 Fall Campaign With Style & Grace

Tommy Hilfiger’s 2023 Fall Campaign has a few famous stars as its faces, namely Stray Kids, the legendary Quincy Jones, and SZA. Moreover, they recently unveiled some new items in their collection, and this second installment of the season has a particular focus. If you didn’t already grasp it by the list of collaborators involved, it’s all about how these two worlds come together. The fashion brand often works with musicians to tell a larger story for both, and has resulted in some iconic and meaningful team-ups. It’s this history, respect, and acclaim that the TDE singer referred to in a press release of the photo campaign.

“I’m so inspired by the creative icons that have come before me and the foundation that they’ve laid,” SZA stated. While this is far from the St. Louis native’s first fashion crossover, it’s certainly one of her biggest, especially within the context of this particular campaign. “I’m excited and honored to build my legacy as a creative alongside a brand as established and influential as Tommy Hilfiger. It’s been a great experience with the brand and so special to share with my close family and friends.”

On the other hand, this might surprise you, but the iconic music producer actually goes way back with Tommy Hilfiger. Kidada, Quincy Jones’ daughter, was part of the Tommy Jeans launch in the 1990s and she styled Aaliyah’s famous bandeau top fit for Hilfiger in Vibe magazine (which he founded) back in 1997. Referring back to this campaign, it’s clear that this family focus is still a big component. 21 of Jones’ family members appear in the promotions, whereas SZA’s family and friends also contributed to them.

“I believe in the power of music to shape and guide us, and that creativity is a vital part of who we are as human beings,” the 90-year-old stated. “It’s a philosophy I share with my family and one I hope to pass on to the next generation. Tommy [Hilfiger] and I first met in the ‘90s during a revolutionary time in music. We came from different worlds, but we immediately connected as two optimistic, and hardworking dreamers with a shared vision to combine music and fashion in a way that had not been done before.” For more news and the latest updates on SZA and Quincy Jones, keep checking in with HNHH.

Quincy Jones Surprised Big Boi With A Letter After Outkast’s Album Of The Year Win

Only two rap albums have ever taken home the Album Of The Year award at the Grammy’s. The first to ever do it was Lauryn Hill with her certified classic The Miseducation Of Lauryn Hill. The second and most recent win by a rap album was Outkast in 2004 for their double album Speakerboxxx/The Love Below. The album took home multiple awards that night. Those victories helped supplant Andre 3000 and Big Boi as one of the definitive rap groups of all time. In a recent appearance on the Elliott Wilson Experience Big Boi stopped by to give his thoughts on the night, the win, and something surprising that happened in the aftermath.

Firstly Wilson wanted to know the Atlanta legend’s thoughts on Outkast still having the most recent rap album to win Album Of The Year. He asked if that was a good or bad thing. “I mean, good in the sense of the level of respect that the group and the work got for that,” Big Boi answered quickly. “I can remember after we won, Quincy Jones sent me a card and was like, ‘Are you surprised?’ And I was like, ‘But how you get my mothaf*ckin’ address?!’” The full talk is available on Elliott Wilson’s Patreon, but you can watch a clip of it below.

Big Boi’s Letter From Quincy Jones

Earlier this year Billboard published a list of their greatest rap groups of all time. Right at the very top spot was Outkast and the hip-hop world mostly rejoiced in their placement. Big Boi himself delivered a pretty simple response to the honor saying “I’ll take it.”

For fans hoping that acknowledgment might be the first step in an eventual Outkast reunion, don’t hold your breath. Back in June frequent Outkast collaborator Sleepy Brown shot down any rumors of the duo getting back together. His main reason for the comments was that Andre 300 was off doing his own thing. What do you think of Big Boi’s stories from Outkast’s legendary 2004 Grammys? Let us know in the comment section below.

Musical Beginnings

Before building an untouchable career, Quincy Jones was a small-town aspiring musician in Chicago. After exhibiting a talent for music, he studied on a scholarship at the Schillinger House, now known as the Berkeley College of Music. It didn’t take long for his talents to garner attention, which led him to encounter and work with musical greats like Frank Sinatra, Elvis Presley, and his inspiration, Ray Charles. He would later leave the United States for  Europe and eventually settled in Paris. While there, he began to study composition under Nadia Boulanger and Olivier Messiaen.

Quincy Jones’ Breakthrough & Widespread Recognition

Jones worked his way up for several years while working for Mercury Records. In 1961, he became the label’s vice president and was the first African American in the position. During this time, he began composing music for major motion pictures. These movies include The Pawnbroker, Mirage, Cactus Flower, and The Italian Job. He ventured into composing for television as well, creating the theme music for several popular shows, including Sanford and Son and The Bill Cosby Show.

The late ’70s and early ’80s significantly boosted Quincy Jones’s illustrious career. Jones and Michael Jackson worked together on the film The Wiz. This partnership led to Jones producing Jackson’s next three albums: Off the Wall, Thriller, and Bad. All three albums would become some of the best-selling albums ever. Thriller, in particular, remains the best-selling album of all time. This trifecta made Quincy Jones the most sought after record producer in the ’80s.

Quincy Jones’ career took another shift, and he began to produce films. His debut film as a producer was The Color Purple, which became a cultural phenomenon. In 1985, he also used his status to reel in many notable musicians for the iconic song “We Are the World.” The star-studded single was produced by Jones, written by Michael Jackson and Lionel Richie, and was recorded to raise money for the victims of famine in Ethiopia. “We Are the World” is one of the best-selling singles of all time.
