Celebrities Defend Jamie Foxx Amid Antisemitism Controversy

Jamie Foxx received a wave of backlash to an Instagram post made on August 4. After posting “They killed this dude named Jesus…What do you think they’ll do to you???! #fakefriends #fakelove,” Foxx was accused of antisemitism. Many saw the post as Anti-Semitic as it, unintentionally or not, invoked the notion of Jewish Decide. Furthermore, Jewish Decide is the belief that the Jewish people are collectively responsible for the death of Jesus. Additionally, in the early history of Christianity, the idea was used as justification for pogroms and other acts of violence and persecution against the Jews.

Fox apologized on the morning of August 5. “I want to apologize to the Jewish community and everyone who was offended by my post. I now know my choice of words may have caused offense and I’m sorry. That was never my intent. To clarify, I was betrayed by a fake friend and that’s what I meant by “they” not anything more. I only have love in my heart for everyone. I love and support the Jewish community. My deepest apologies to anyone who was offended ❤❤❤. Nothing but love always, Jamie Foxx ❤🦊🙏.” While many people believed an apology was unwarranted, that argument has been bolstered by a number of celebrity voices.

Jay Pharaoh, Kenya Barris, And More Defend Foxx

Many celebrities expressed their displeasure that Foxx had felt “forced” to apologize for his comments. “When you have to apologize for the truth, your voice is the minority,” wrote SNL alum Jay Pharaoh. “Love you bro!!! Waitin on ya!!!,” added Black-ish creator Kenya Barris. Meanwhile, the CEO of the ADL Jonathan Greenblatt said that the organization “welcomed” Foxx’s apology and that Foxx had reached out further to reiterate his message to the ADL. The problem is that the issue is not unitary. The phrase that Foxx used can be both a Black colloquialism and an anti-Semitic trope. In fact, it does exist as both. While it’s clear that Foxx didn’t mean it as the latter, that does not mean that the latter interpretation no longer magically exists.

The response feels very similar to the incident in June 2022, when Lizzo issued an apology for the song “GRRRLS”. The original lyrics of the song contained a word that served as both a Black colloquialism and an ableist slur. While Lizzo apologized, many argued that she shouldn’t have to because her detractors were simply racist white people trying to tone police Black people.

Ne-Yo Clarifies Comments About Trans Children

Earlier this week, Ne-Yo came under fire for comments he made about parents who allowed their children to transition as minors. “I have no issue with the [LGBTQIA+] community, I have no problem with nobody. Love who you love. Do what you do. I just personally come from an era where a man was a man, and a woman was a woman, and there wasn’t but two genders, and that’s just how it rocked. Now, you could identify as a goldfish if you feel like. I don’t care. That ain’t my business. It becomes my business when you try to make me to play the game with you. I’m not going to call you a goldfish. You want to be a goldfish? Go be a goldfish. We live in a weird time, man,” the rapper said on a VladTV podcast.

Ne-Yo’s point really boils down to “I don’t have an issue with trans people, but I don’t respect their decision and don’t abide by it.” What appeared to further rile up trans advocates was the use of the debunked and transphobic talking point about “children identifying as animals”. No verifiable study has shown an actual phenomenon of children identifying as animals as their gender. While it’s certainly not the worst anti-trans take out there, it’s still fairly ignorant. He conflates sex with gender, starting there are two genders when referring men and women. Furthermore, it’s unusual that man who goes by Ne-Yo despite being born Shaffer Chimere Smith, has an issue with people wanting to be identified a different way to how they were born. After the comments appeared on Hollywood Unlocked, Ne-Yo took to the comments section to add a clarification.

Ne-Yo Hits Back, Doubles Down

“1st and foremost, I CONDEMN NO ONE. Who am I to condemn anybody? Your life, your kids, your choice. I was asked a question and I answered it. My opinion is mine. I’m not asking anybody to agree with me nor am I telling you what you can and cannot do with your children. I stated my opinion on a matter and that’s that.
Why should I care if my opinion upsets you when you don’t care if yours upsets anyone? Opinions aren’t special. We all have one. People voice them regularly whether they’re asked or not. I was actually asked mine. Agreeing to disagree is not a declaration of war. Y’all do whatever the hell y’all want to. But my feelings on the matter are mine. Same way yours are yours. Meanwhile,
I love everybody. Don’t agree with some of y’all’s ideals….but love you no less,” Ne-Yo wrote in the comments.

Again, it’s the same idea as he previously stated. He has a right to his opinion and he disagrees with the idea of children transitioning at a young age. Of course, his opinion is based on incorrect assumptions about the trans community, which is why he was called out in the first place. It’s very telling that Ne-Yo plays the cis victim card, asking “Why should I care if my opinion upsets you when you don’t care if yours upsets anyone?” Firstly, being trans is not an opinion. Not liking trans people is an opinion. But being trans, or gender non-conforming is not an opinion. But regardless, Ne-Yo has expressed his opinion while pulling the classic “I love all people, despite being opposed to your existence and not loving you enough to show you basic respect.”

Joe Rogan slammed President Joe Biden while discussing politics with author Patrick Bet-David during a recent episode of his podcast. Rogan labeled the current president “corrupt” and described him as a “goof.”

“Whether you like Trump or not, whether you think he’s corrupt or not, that’s a human being. You know what that guy is,” he said. “Joe Biden has been a goof his whole fucking career. He has always been a goof. He has been caught lying so many times, he is so full of shit. There is so much evidence that he is corrupt.”

The discussion with Patrick Bet-David isn’t the first time Rogan has criticized the President for being “corrupt.” Back in June, the podcaster made similar accusations. “All the fucking stuff with his son and the ties to Ukraine and China and the money. The family, they got paid millions of dollars and everyone was trying to obscure it because, ‘Well, better than Trump. Better than Trump,’” he said at the time.

Ne-Yo Shares His Controversial Take On Gender

During a recent interview with Gloria Valez for VladTV, Ne-Yo shared his take on gender. The artist explained that though he doesn’t mind others choosing to identify how they please, his problem begins when he’s called to use people’s pronouns. He compared people identifying as anything other than their assigned sex to identifying as a “goldfish.” As expected, the clip has managed to get the attention of social media users. It’s now sparked a bit of a debate, with commenters arguing about whether or not Ne-Yo’s in the right.

“I came from an era where a man was a man and woman was a woman,” he told Valez. “It’s not my business,” Ne-Yo continued, “but it becomes my business when you try to make me play these games with you.” He went on to discuss parenting, claiming that it’s parents’ responsibility to make decisions for their kids. “I feel like parents have almost forgotten what the role of a parent is,” he explained. “If your little boy comes to you and says ‘daddy I wanna be a girl,’ you just let him rock with that?” Ne-Yo asks, “When did it become a good idea to let a 12-year-old make a life-changing decision for themselves?”

For obvious reasons, there were many social media users bothered by his hot take. “Let parents raise their kids however they choose,” one Instagram commenter says. “What happened to that?” Another writes, “He lives a double standard lifestyle.” Some other commenters came to his defense though, claiming he’s speaking “straight up facts.” However one looks at it, it remains obvious that Ne-Yo doesn’t mind dipping his toe in a bit of controversy.

Recently, the singer was also spotted holding hands with two different women. Some social media users have even been comparing him to Nick Cannon as of late, as he recently showed off a photoshoot with his seven kids.

Donald Trump Crashes Wedding Hours After Entering Third Indictment Plea

August 3 was a pretty bad day for Donald Trump. He appeared in court to plead on his third indictment. These charges related to his alleged attempts to overturn the 2020 election through “unlawful means”. In particular, the charges related to the January 6 insurrection during which Trump’s supporters attempt to stop Congress from certifying the election results. Trump of course pled not guilty. However, that news was immediately undermined by what happened next.

Trump’s lawyer, Alina Habba, decided to give an interview to Fox News after the arraignment. During that interview, Habba stated that Trump was aware that he had lost the election and that what he was doing was illegal. Lawyers don’t typically admit that their client, especially one who just pled not guilty, is in fact guilty. Meanwhile, Trump reportedly threw a bit of a tantrum about his treatment in the courtroom. “I am told that the former president, one thing that irked him particularly, was during that hearing today that lasted about 27 minutes, was when the magistrate judge referred to him as simply ‘Mr. Trump.’” reported CNN‘s Kaitlan Collins. However, Trump seemingly bounced back with a surprise wedding appearance.

In videos that emerged late on August 3, Trump appeared to return to his Bedminster Golf Club in New Jersey after the proceedings in DC. Turns out, there was a wedding going on at the club when Trump arrived. So, needing some simps to boost his ego, Trump decided to crash the party. Entering the room to chants of “USA”, Trump immediately took over proceedings at the event. “I heard so much about this couple,” Trump said in a toast. The bride is totally beautiful, and you’re even more beautiful today.” Reports also indicate that Trump posed for photos with the bride and groom later in the night.

Despite the celebrations, things continue to mount up against the embattled former President. At the time of writing, he has been indicted on nearly 80 charges across multiple investigations. In the coming weeks, more charges are expected to come from an indictment in the state of Georgia. That indictment also stems from claims of election interference, with Trump accused of attempting to pressure state officials into overturning the state’s 2020 results.

Court Docs Reveal Rudy Giuliani Told a Woman: ‘Your T*ts Belong to Me’

In an audio clip, former New York City mayor and current Trump advisor Rudy Giuliani tell a woman, “Your t*ts belong to me.”

The remarks are noted in court documents from his current civil sexual assault case. Giuliani says to Noelle Dunphy “Come here, big t*ts. Your t*ts belong to me. Give them to me [indiscernible]. I want to claim my t*ts. These are my t*s.” Dunphy filed her Manhattan Supreme Court case on Late Monday.

According to the New York Daily News, Giuliani also told the woman, “Nobody else can get near these” and “I’m very f*cking possessive. I’ve gone easy on you.”

In May, amidst multiple legal challenges, Giuliani faced a lawsuit from Dunphy, who accused him of sexual assault and harassment during her employment from January 2019 to 2021 when he served as then-President Donald Trump’s lawyer. Dunphy claimed that Giuliani still owed her wages, which he sought to settle after his contentious divorce with his wife, Judith. Shocking allegations in the suit included Giuliani pressuring her to lie to the FBI, engaging in inappropriate conduct like forcing her into oral sex while on the phone with Trump and making her join work video conferences while unclothed.

NPBA Calls The Orlando Magic’s Donation To Ron DeSantis “Alarming”

Quarterly fundraising disclosures in the 2024 Presidential election revealed that back in June, the Orlando Magic gave $50,000 to the campaign of Florida Governor Ron DeSantis. The move is unsurprising, given that the Magic is owned by the DeVos, longtime and deep-pocketed Republicans. Betsy DeVos, the sister-in-law of current Magic chairman Dan DeVos, served as President Trump’s Secretary of Education.

When asked by the New York Times, a spokesperson for the Magic confirmed the donation. Furthermore, they stated that it “was given as a Florida business in support of a Florida governor for the continued prosperity of Central Florida.” DeSantis, who has struggled to find national traction with his brand of hardline anti-woke rhetoric, has served as the state’s governor since 2018. While many of his anti-woke stunts have grabbed the national spotlight, his own going battle with Disney is one of the best remembered. Ironically, Disney is the main sponsor of the Magic.

NPBA Weighs In On Magic Donation

After this quarter’s disclosures were made and the Magic’s donation revealed, the NBPA felt compelled to release a statement. “A political contribution from the Orlando Magic is alarming given recent comments and policies of its beneficiary. NBA governors, players, and personnel have the right to express their personal political views, including through donations and statements. However, if contributions are made on behalf of an entire team, using money earned through the labor of its employees, it is incumbent upon the team governors to consider the diverse values and perspectives of staff and players. The Magic’s donation does not player support for the recipient.”

It’s not the first time in basketball history that players have directly opposed their team owners. In 2020, members of the WNBA’s Atlanta Dream stood in opposition with one of the team’s owners, then-Senator Kelly Loeffler. Loeffler, a Republican, was a major Trump ally and had blasted the WNBA for kneeling during the national anthem. In response, members of the Dream actively worked for the election campaign of Loeffler’s opponent, Reverend Raphael Warnock. It remains to be seen if there will be a similar reaction to this brazen move by the Magic.

Plies came at Donald Trump on social media, earlier this week, after the United States Justice Department announced criminal charges against the former president regarding lies about the 2020 election results as well as the January 6th riot. The rapper addressed the situation during a video on his Instagram page.

“How U Get Indicted For The 3rd Time???” he captioned his clip, while adding numerous laughing emoji’s. “Pw*ssy Azz Trump!!!!  #Plies.” In the video, he further said: “You done got indicted for the third time, you done got indicted for the third time. Justice Department Brings Forth Indictment Against Donald Trump

In addition to the Instagram post, Plies went at Trump in multiple tweets on Wednesday. He theorized that Trump will attempt to win reelection before he can face punishment for any of his crimes.

Justice Department special counsel Jack Smith spent months investigating Trump prior to the announcement of the charges. According to the Associated Press, he noted: “The attack on our nation’s Capitol on Jan. 6, 2021, was an unprecedented assault on the seat of American democracy. It was fueled by lies, lies by the defendant targeted at obstructing a bedrock function of the U.S. government: the nation’s process of collecting, counting and certifying the results of the presidential election.”

Joe Biden Reviews “Oppenheimer” After Seeing Film During Delaware Vacation

President Joe Biden hit up a local theater in Rehoboth Beach, Delaware with the First Lady to catch a public screening of Oppenheimer on August 1. The Bidens are spending the week in the popular vacation destination as part of their official summer getaway. Oppenheimer is the latest from acclaimed director Christopher Nolan. The film tells the story of The Manhattan Project through the lens of lead scientist J. Robert Oppenheimer. The Manhattan Project was the codename for the United States’ development of the first atomic bombs.

Much has been made of the release of Oppenheimer, which came out on the same day as Greta Gerwig’s Barbie. Barbie has absolutely dominated the box office and is expected to surpass $1 billion this week. Meanwhile, Oppenheimer has been able to hold its own. At the time of writing, the film has made over $400 million and made nearly $100 million during its domestic opening. Reportedly, there was a showing of Barbie at the same theater at the same time as the Oppenheimer showing the Bidens attended.

Biden Calls Oppenheimer “Compelling”

In a brief exchange with reporters after the movie, Biden called the film “compelling.” The president kept the impromptu Q&A short. Furthermore, he did not answer any questions about the additional federal indictments former President Donald Trump was handed earlier in the day. However, it’s no surprise that Biden chose Oppenheimer over Barbie. The President has previously expressed a love of historical biopics. In 2005, then-Senator Biden told CBS that his favorite movie was Chariots of Fire. The 1981 Oscar winner follows two British athletes who must choose between athletics and their religion while competing at the 1924 Olympics.

However, the question is now whether Biden will also be taking in Barbie. The ensemble comedy has been widely praised by critics. The film follows “Stereotypical Barbie” (Margot Robbie) as she travels from Barbieland to the real world to seek answers as to why her perfect life is beginning to be a lot less perfect. Furthermore, it currently holds an 88% critics rating and 84% audience rating on Rotten Tomatoes. Perhaps Biden will catch a private screening at the White House. However, it’s nice to see the President supporting a local theater while on vacation.

Kanye West Briefly Unbanned On Twitter, FBI Might Probe His Presidential Campaign

One of the most persistent aspects of Kanye West’s past few years was his ban on Twitter for controversial statements. However, it seems that Elon Musk’s “X” rebrand also came with some user changes and reinstatements. Moreover, the platform unbanned the Chicago artist’s account, though it’s unclear if he will use it at all. Of course, it shouldn’t be too surprising to see Ye rant and ramble about whatever pops into his head again. Still, recent reports of a potential FBI probe into his presidential campaign might compel him to hold his tongue. Also, it looks like Twitter re-suspended his account, so that didn’t last long.

Furthermore, Radar Online reportedly spoke to Kanye West’s 2024 campaign committee treasurer Devin White and attorney Bruce Fein. During their talk, they alleged that the Federal Bureau of Investigation might look into Milo Yiannopoulos, the Yeezy mogul’s on-and-off-again campaign manager. The right-wing pundit is a U.S. resident alien on O-1 visa status, and this forbids him from formally working on a campaign.

Kanye West’s (Brief) Unbanning On Twitter

“Commission regulations prohibit foreign nationals from directing, dictating, controlling, or directly or indirectly participating in the decision-making process of any person (such as a corporation, labor organization, political committee, or political organization) with regard to any election-related activities,” the Federal Electoral Commission states. “This prohibition includes advances of personal funds, contributions or donations made to political party committees and organizations, state or local party committees for the purchase or construction of an office building funds under 11 CFR 300.35, and contributions or disbursements to make electioneering communications. Foreign nationals are also prohibited from, directly or indirectly, donating to an inaugural committee; and it is a violation of federal law to knowingly accept such donations from a foreign national.” What’s more is that this could spell out deep trouble for Kanye West, which Fein and White claim to have warned him of.

“He’s a foreign national,” Fein told the outlet. “You cannot take any services from a foreign national. It’s a criminal violation, not civil- a criminal violation! It’s a felony, it’s not a minor offense.
