Justin Bieber’s Dad Doubles Down On Homophobia

In now-deleted tweets, Jeremy Bieber, father of Justin Bieber, decided to vent his frustrations about Pride Month. Bieber shared a meme of a rainbow with the caption, “Don’t forget to thank a straight person this month for your existence.” He also tweeted that people “need to celebrate families” and that “U know the reason we’re all here! The things this generation glorifies is unbelievable!.” Unsurprisingly, Bieber’s homophobic ravings went down like a lead balloon.

Jeremy has since pinned a 2018 tweet that reads “Family isn’t an important thing, it’s everything!.” Meanwhile, most of Twitter has been joking that he’s an irrelevant “nepo parent”. However, seemingly having not learned his lesson, Jeremy decided to try and clarify his comments by being a whole lot more homophobic.

Jeremy Bieber Digs Him Into A Homophobic Hole

In another now-deleted tweet, Bieber lamented that “I didn’t expect to be thrown into this political arena, but I’m being forced in. Insensitive perhaps but a bigot I am not! #buckleup #truths,” which is a weird thing to say about the voluntary tweets he made. “Love whomever you want that’s your business not ‘mine’ my problem is the hostile takeover of our cities and schools by LGBTQ this is the concern of many,” he continued. To clarify, there is zero evidence for a “hostile takeover” of “cities and schools” by “LGBTQ”. In fact, quite the opposite is true. The ACLU reports that there are 491 anti-LGBTQ bills that have been filed across 46 states in 2023 alone. When people talk about an LGBTQ invasion, they are usually referring to a willingness to acknowledge that LGBTQ exists.

Now, we shouldn’t bash Jeremy too hard. However, it takes some mental gymnastics of gold medal-caliber to fuck up apologizing this badly. Furthermore, Jeremy’s bravery should be applauded. This man is out here promoting the importance of family when he has four children by three women. Furthermore, he has been accused of being a deadbeat dad on multiple occasions. Additionally, he’s not the only Canadian having a bad Pride Month. The Toronto Blue Jays DFA’d pitcher Anthony Bass just one day after announcing that Bass, who had made similar homophobic comments earlier in the year, would catch the first pitch at the team’s Pride game.

Donald Trump Indictment Hints At Truth Behind Wild Kid Rock Story

Former President Donald Trump was indicted on June 9 after a wealth of classified documents were discovered in a bathroom of his Mar-a-Lago resort in Florida. The indictment, Trump’s second of the year, covers 37 charges against the former President. The charges include 31 counts of willful retention of classified documents, one count of conspiracy to obstruct justice, one count of withholding a document or record, one count of corruptly concealing a document or record, one count of concealing a document in a federal investigation, one count of scheme to conceal and one count of making false statements and representations. Trump will be arranged on June 13.

However, one section of the indictment in particular has raised a number of eyebrows. The section in question reads, “In August or September 2021, at The Bedminster Club, Trump showed a representative of his political action committee who did not possess a security clearance a classified map related to a military operation.” Buckle in, because the potential link here is wild.

Donald Trump May Have Shown Kid Rock Classified Documents

Last year, Kid Rock went on Fox News to be interviewed by Tucker Carlson. Kid Rock is a die-hard Trump supporter. Furthermore, that has been the case since essentially the beginning of Trump’s upwards fail into the White House. Speaking with Carlson, Rock told a very funny story about how Trump solicited his advice on North Korea. “We’re looking at maps and shit, and I’m like, ‘Am I supposed to be in on this shit?’ Kid Rock said. “I make dirty records sometimes. ‘What do you think we should do about North Korea?’ I’m like, ‘What? I don’t think I’m qualified to answer this”.” Rock also noted that Trump had sought his advice about ISIS during the same dinner.

Now Trump had a habit of contacting the most random people to advise on his Presidential decision-making. He reportedly asked former Yankee Alex Rodriguez about how he should handle COVID-19. Furthermore, he reportedly ranted at golfer Jon Daly about how Putin wouldn’t have invaded Ukraine if Trump was still President. But the Kid Rock story was a different beast altogether. Furthermore, if the indictment is about Kid Rock, that’s kind of a slam dunk on that charge. This is a developing story and we’ll have any updates here at HotNewHipHop.

LCSPA Ends Strike, LCS Summer Split Begins June 14

Players in the LCS, North America’s professional League of Legends league, went on strike on May 28. The LCSPA, the union that represents the league’s players, called the strike over changes to the second tier of the region’s esports scene. In a statement released May 30, Global Head of League of Legends Esports Naz Aletaha announced that Riot had chosen to delay the start of the LCS Summer split by two weeks. “We ultimately decided that it would not hold true to our values that Riot’s esports offers our players and fans a showcase for the best competitive League of Legends. Nothing but putting the best players in North America on the stage at Riot Games Arena is acceptable. So we informed LCSPA leadership today that we will delay the LCS season for the next two weeks.”

The delay came as a result of Riot Games and the 10 LCS organizations being unable to source high-quality replacement players. Despite removing many of the requirements for LCS eligibility, much of the amateur and semi-pro scene stood with the players. Riot threatened to cancel it entirely if a deal could not be reached with the union. Canceling the split would have prevented North American teams from participating in the 2023 World Championships. The end of the two-week delay, June 15, was set as a hard deadline for negotiations.

Riot Games And LCSPA Reach Agreement

In a statement released June 9, the LCS announced that a deal had been reached with the Players’ Association. “Following a two-week delay, the LCS will move forward with a reformatted Summer Split regular season that will take place over 6 weeks starting on June 14. LCS matches this Summer will now be played on Wednesdays, Thursdays, and Fridays,” the statement began. Furthermore, the post outlined the changes to the NACL that would be implemented as a result of the agreement. These changes were headlined by reformatting, better governance, mandatory minimums for severance notification, and healthcare for international players. However, LCS organizations will still not be required to carry an academy team or participate in the NACL.

The LCSPA also released a statement, saying the agreement “proves the importance of giving players a seat at the table.” However, the LCSPA vowed to keep fighting. “The concessions [below] do not restore the NACL fully, nor do they provide restoration for the players who lost jobs suddenly and incurred financial hardship, lost visas, or broken leases. The LCSPA is committed to continuing our pursuit of any and all potential paths toward making these players more whole.” Away from these promises, the league is now set to return on June 9, beginning a compact, three-a-week play schedule. “The Little Mermaid” Asian Box Office Slump Blamed On Racism

Disney’s live-action remake of The Little Mermaid has received a warm reception in the United States. Critics have received the film fairly warmly, and it holds a 67% critics rating on Rotten Tomatoes. Furthermore, critics have praised the performance of Halle Bailey while noting that the film as a whole is a fairly bland and visually underwhelming remake. However, audiences have loved the film. The Little Mermaid holds a 96% audience rating on Rotten Tomatoes and has grossed $327 million worldwide.

However, the film has some underwhelming international markets, namely those in Asia. According to Endata, the film has grossed just $3.7 million in Mainland China, which counts as the second-largest box office in the world. Similarly, the film has grossed just $4.4 million in South Korea. Meanwhile, the film is yet to open in Japan but is expected to suffer from the same issues. Additionally, these muted figures have been attributed to a problem that has plagued the film time and time again.

Anti-Black Racism Blamed For “The Little Mermaid” Slump

China and South Korea both harbor long histories of racial discrimination. Anti-Black racism has been common in China since the 1970s, when the nation began its expansion of financial diplomacy into Africa. Furthermore, much like how the rest of the world blamed China for COVID-19, China in turn saw a spike in anti-Black discrimination. Meanwhile, South Korea is infamous for a culture of denying service to non-Koreans. Furthermore, research has shown that Black individuals are more likely to experience overt racism than white individuals.

These sentiments appear to be fueling the cold reception to The Little Mermaid. On the Chinese film review website Douban, users have rated the film as a 5.1 out of 10. Meanwhile, several reviews left on the review site and box office tracker Maoyan made direct and discriminatory references to Bailey’s skin color. Similar trends have been observed in South Korea, where the Instagram hashtag ‘NotMyAriel’ has trended numerous times. Furthermore, Japanese film-goers have also expressed a cool reception ahead of the film’s June 9 premiere.

Will some straight up unfiltered racists feel empowered? Yes. Will that empowerment congeal in2 a new Nazi party checking muslims papers? No.”

Mike Pence Set to Formally Launch 2024 Presidential Campaign

j

Former Vice President Mike Pence has announced entering the 2024 Presidential Race. In declaring his candidacy, Pence will challenge his former running mate, President Donald Trump.

According to The New York Times, Pence filed the paperwork for the presidency on Monday, sparking an underdog run at the Republican nomination for the White House. Pence previously served under Donald Trump and, in the post-presidency years, has become the target of Trump at the center of falsely rigged election claims.

Pence is expected to formally announce his campaign on Wednesday in Des Moines, Iowa, joining an ever-growing field featuring former Gov. Chris Christie and North Dakota Governor Doug Burgum.

In March, a federal judge ordered Pence to appear in front of a grand jury that is investigating former president Donald J. Trump.

The request for Pence comes in an investigation of Trump’s efforts to overturn the results of the 2020 election. According to the New York Times, Judge James E. Boasberg’s rulings impact Trump’s attempt to limit the type of questions that can be positioned against him in court.

Pence is being requested after Trump asked for him to delay or block the Electoral College vote count, cementing Trump’s loss. Before the court order, Trump’s lawyer asked for the court’s chief judge, Beryl A. Howell, to limit what Pence could deliver in testimony.

On the other hand, Pence’s lawyers also asked for limited testimony due to his role as president of the Senate, which would exclude him from any legal issues.

You can learn more about Pence’s order here.

Donald Trump Congratulates Kim Jong Un, Faces Backlash From Republicans

Donald Trump shared his congratulations for Kim Jong Un on his social media platform, Truth Social, earlier this week, sparking bipartisan backlash. In doing so, Trump shared a link to the news that the World Health Organization has admitted North Korea to its executive board.

“Congratulations to Kim Jung Un!” Trump wrote. The post was quickly met with backlash from several other voices in the Republican party. Georgia governor Brian Kemp later tweeted: “Taking our country back from Joe Biden does not start with congratulating North Korea’s murderous dictator.”

U.S. President Donald Trump and North Korean leader Kim Jong-un briefly met at the Korean demilitarized zone (DMZ) on Sunday, with an intention to revitalize stalled nuclear talks and demonstrate the friendship between both countries. The encounter was the third time Trump and Kim have gotten together in person as both leaders have said they are committed to the “complete denuclearization” of the Korean peninsula. (Handout photo by Dong-A Ilbo/Getty Images)

Trump’s former lawyer Jenna Ellis also responded to the post: “Donald Trump is running to the left of Ron DeSantis, RFK, and now Joe Biden? We don’t have a pro-Kim Jung Un lane in the GOP. What has happened to Trump?” Nikki Haley, who previously served as Trump’s former UN ambassador and is currently running against him in 2024, wrote: “Kim Jong Un starves his own people. It’s a total farce that North Korea has a leading role at the World Health Organization.”

Donald Trump famously became the first sitting US President to meet with a dictator of North Korea back in 2019. He reflected on his relationship with Kim Jong Un during an interview in April. “It started off rough, remember that? I was saying ‘little rocket man’ and he was saying ‘I’ve got a red button on my desk, and I’m willing to use it,’” Trump recalled. “And then all of a sudden we get a call — they want to meet. We would have had that whole situation straightened out shortly after the beginning of my second term.”

Riot Games Delays LCS Season Amid Player Strike

Last week, the LCSPA, which represents professional League of Legends players in North America, called for a strike vote. The decision came as a result of Riot Games gutting the second tier of professional League of Legends in the region, leading to the loss of over 70 jobs.

The strike authorization vote overwhelmingly passed on May 28, meaning that the league’s 50 presumptive starters would not be taking the stage for the start of the Summer Split on June 1. However, Riot did not immediately cancel or delay the split. Instead, the billion-dollar game studio scrapped a few key regulations in order to make it easier for teams to sign replacement rosters. The LCSPA hit back, urging any players receiving offers from LCS teams to stand in solidarity with the union. Furthermore, a number of influential figures in the amateur and semi-pro scenes indicated that they would be taking note of any players who crossed the picket.

Season Delayed But Riot Holding Firm

In a statement released May 30, Global Head of League of Legends Esports Naz Aletaha announced that Riot had chosen to delay the start of the LCS Summer split by two weeks. “We ultimately decided that it would not hold true to our values that Riot’s esports offers our players and fans a showcase for the best competitive League of Legends. Nothing but putting the best players in North America on the stage at Riot Games Arena is acceptable. So we informed LCSPA leadership today that we will delay the LCS season for the next two weeks.”

However, that’s where the generosity towards the union stopped. Despite saying that Riot wanted to start a “productive dialogue between the LCSPA, teams, and the league,” the statement also included a public rejection of all of the demands set forth by the LCSPA. Furthermore, Riot openly threatened to cancel the entire LCS season, eliminating LCS teams from eligibility at Worlds 2023, if the work stoppage extended beyond two weeks. In short, Riot made it very clear that they were willing to dole out any punishment they saw fit if the union didn’t capitulate and surrender. As a result of these threats, the LCSPA has publicly said they have asked Riot for daily meetings to find an equitable solution. This is a developing story and we’ll have any updates here at HotNewHipHop.

Colorado Governor Offers NBA Finals Bet To Ron DeSantis

Politicians getting in on the success of sports teams within their state is nothing new. It’s free, easy, and positive press to ride the success of a hometown team, just as long as you can sell to fans that you actually care. This has led to some interesting situations in the past, when the trash talk has backfired. The Governor of Connecticut had to apologize to the Mayor of Houston after the former made comments about Houston during the Men’s Final Four.

The NBA Finals kick off on June 1, with the Western one-seed Denver Nuggets taking on the Eastern eight-seed Miami Heat. In terms of the political arena, that pits the increasingly progressive Colorado against the increasingly authoritarian Florida. One of the lynchpins of Florida’s “War on Woke” has been Governor Ron DeSantis’ ever-embarrassing war with Disney. Furthermore, it was the billion-dollar corporation that was central to the Governor of Colorado’s proposed Finals wager.

Polis Wants Disney

In a tweet on May 30, Jared Polis, the Democrat Governor of Colorado, laid out his side of a wager with his Florida counterpart. “Calling @GovRonDeSantis and @Disney on a friendly wager. If the @nuggets win the finals against the @MiamiHEAT, Disney World will move to Colorado, the ACTUAL happiest place on earth to do business, have fun, and be free! #ColoradoForAll.” Governor DeSantis has not publicly responded to the tweet. In lieu of an official response, a lot of people on Twitter appear to think that this is a genuine and somehow legally binding offer, as opposed to a slightly cringy joke.

The Nuggets are currently the heavy favorites to win the NBA Finals. FanDuel reports odds of -460 (win $1 for every $4.60 bet) for the Nuggets and +350 (win $3.50 for every $1 bet) for the Heat. Typically, state-level politicians force their opposite number to send a state dish and a picture of them in the other team’s jersey. However, DeSantis’ hatred for Disney is almost unprecedented so maybe this silly wager isn’t so jokey after all. Despite this, as mentioned, DeSantis has not publicly responded to Polis’ tweet. The NBA Finals start June 1 in Denver. Furthermore, follow all the latest sports news here at HotNewHipHop.
