Pusha T Teases A Pharrell-Produced Jay-Z Collaboration, ‘Neck And Wrist’

It is very difficult to overstate Pharrell Williams‘ impact as a producer. While he’s become one of music’s top composers on his own, much of that impact came as a member of The Neptunes with Chad Hugo. A lot of The Neptunes’ most pivotal work came with two hip-hop acts whose trajectories couldn’t be more different: Jay-Z and Clipse, who were signed to The Neptunes’ Star Trak imprint in the early 2000s. Intriguingly, those two acts have rarely crossed over or collaborated despite their shared link to Pharrell… until now.

Pusha T, who’s since found some success as a solo artist and a businessman in his own right, has been promoting his upcoming fourth studio album, peppering the past few weeks with tracks like “Diet Coke,” “Spicy Fish Diss,” and “Hear Me Clearly.” While only the first is actually from the upcoming album, Push’s next single is sure to draw plenty of attention. For the first time since 2016’s “Drug Dealers Anonymous,” Pusha pleased coke rap aficionados by teaming up with Jay-Z on “Neck And Wrist,” a new song produced by none other than their mutual friend Pharrell. As he did with “Diet Coke,” Pusha announced the single’s impending release date via Instagram after teasing the song in an interview some weeks back.

Now, if only we could get that Pharrell-produced collab between Jay-Z and Snoop Dogg

Directed by Tyler Okonma, Pharrell himself produces the new song. Tyler shared the new visual on Thursday morning (March 24) with his 9 million followers on Twitter with the YouTube link. In the visual, Tyler and Pharrell show off their unique designer drips while arguing with a love interest on the phone about going for a tricked-out Ferrari.

“Come On, Let’s Go” is the trendsetting duo’s seventh collaboration, including past hits “Keep Da O’s,” “Are We Still Friends,” and the recent “Juggernaut.” For Nigo, the new single follows a trail of new hit collaborations from Pusha T, A$AP Rocky, and Kid Cudi. And with the all-star features, Nigo’s debut album will see the return of his former rap group, The Teriyaki Boyz.

Tyler The Creator Dunked On A Fan Who Didn’t Understand Sample Credits And Implied Tyler Doesn’t Write His Own Music

A brand new Tyler The Creator freestyle was thrust into the spotlight today when a fan misinterpreted the song’s credits and tried to imply Tyler doesn’t write his own music. Though the rapper has been abundantly clear throughout his career just how involved he is in the entire process, from verses, to production, to orchestration and feature selection, one fan was upset by the list of names that preceded Tyler on the freestyle.

The “Lost And Found Freestyle 2019” features both Tyler and ASAP Rocky laying down bars alongside Nigo on a track off the hip-hop legends first album in close to 20 years, I Know Nigo! Since the song samples both “3 Kings” and “Like a Boss” by Slim Thug, along with production from The Neptunes, those names are added to the song’s credits, and then lists Tyler and Rocky after them. But all those names in front of Tyler led a fan to claim “everyone in the industry is a robot.”

“You big f*cking dummy,” Tyler wrote. “first beat is 3KINGS by slim thug which the produces had to credit the writers of the song they sampled, second half is LIKE A BOSS by slim and they credited the producers for that as well, then u have the two credits of the rappers u bozo, think first.”

Tyler has since deleted his tweet, but Complex preserved his pristine dunk, which, honestly? Seems pretty justified given the circumstances. Check out the “Lost And Found Freestyle 2019” up top, and give credit where credit is due.

Omar Apollo Drops The Smooth, Pharrell-Produced Single ‘Tamagotchi’

Omar Apollo turned some eyeballs in his direction with his 2020 debut full-length project Apolonio, and now he’s getting ready to generate even more attention with Ivory, a new album that’s set to drop in early April. Fans have actually already heard a decent portion of the album, as Apollo has now shared five singles from it. That includes the new one from today, “Tamagotchi.”

If the production style of this one sounds familiar, that because The Neptunes (Pharrell Williams and Chad Hugo) produced the song. On the smooth and sensual tune, sung in both English and Spanish, Apollo sings, “You with somebody, or are you cool? / I want your body, you want me too / I see you coming, I come for you / Need you around me, I know you do.”

Preceding “Tamagotchi” as Ivory singles are “Go Away,” “Bad Life,” “Invincible,” and “Killing Me.” Speaking of “Killing Me,” Apollo actually performed the track on The Tonight Show on March 11, the day of its release. He’s also got tour dates coming up this spring and summer.

Ivory is out 4/8 via Warner Records. Pre-order it here.
