Joe Budden Debates Whether Drake Is An Outsider In Hip-Hop Amid Kendrick Lamar Feud

Joe Budden discussed Kendrick Lamar’s criticism of Drake as being a “colonizer” in hip-hop during a recent appearance on the BagFuel podcast. While he didn’t come right out and agree with the take, he discussed the merits of Lamar’s argument. On his viral diss track, “Not Like Us,” Lamar raps: “You run to Atlanta when you need a few dollars / No, you not a colleague, you a f*ckin’ colonizer.”

“Culture is where Kendrick was shifting his conversation: how do you dress? Who’s your barber? Are you a good dad? Can you dance? Your slaps? What’s your hood? Did you have a nickname growing up? Sh*t like that is what Kendrick was leaning into to,” he said. “Those people, I believe, created hip-hop.”

From there, Budden took issue with Drake buying 2Pac’s iconic ring and wearing Cam’ron’s pink fur coat while performing with Dipset at The Apollo. Lamar had brought up the ring while performing at The Pop Out – Ken & Friends in Los Angeles, last month. “Even if that’s not your intent, you gotta know how that comes off,” Budden said. “I’ve never been around Drake and Kendrick, but to hear Kendrick say, ‘You run to Atlanta when you need a check balance…’ It’s like, ‘Oh, you noticed that too.’ ‘Cause I noticed that. I get what you trying to say. And you probably the only person that could say it, and it be effective and impactful.”

Reportedly, he instructed his DJ to play Kendrick Lamar’s hit track “Not Like Us,” prompting some tension among attendees. In various clips making their rounds online, he’s seen getting punched in the face, prompting his crew to jump in. Kemp continued, also mocking Ross relentlessly for what she saw as his failed attempt to fight back. This doesn’t necessarily come as a surprise, considering the nature of their relationship these days. Nonetheless, some viewers think she should have at least an inkling of sympathy for her former partner. Fortunately, he doesn’t appear to be too fazed by the shocking incident, based on some of his latest social media posts.

As footage of the fight circulated earlier today, he took to his Instagram Story to send a brief message to his followers. “Vancouver was fun, til next time,” he wrote. He also took to the comments section of The Shade Room to joke that he thought his attackers were simply “bottle service boys,” making light of the bizarre incident. Rick Ross Breaks His Silence On Vancouver Brawl After Drake Seemingly Co-Signs It

Reportedly, the hitmaker was confronted by several alleged Drake supporters, leaving him with no choice but to fight back. The brawl reportedly took place at the Ignite Music Festival last night (June 30), and footage of it is now making its rounds on social media.

It’s rumored to have all begun when Ross had his DJ play Kendrick Lamar’s iconic Drake diss track, “Not Like Us,” at the event. This clearly prompted a fair bit of tension and eventually resulted in him getting punched in the face. After that, several others jumped in. At the time of writing, it’s unclear if anybody was seriously injured in the fight. It’s also unconfirmed whether or not the men who went after Ross were in any way affiliated with Drake.

Drake Likes Video Of Rick Ross’ Altercation On IG

It appears, however, that Drake has caught wind of the shocking incident. He reportedly liked a video of the attack on Instagram, and while this doesn’t prove that he co-signs the behavior, it certainly seems to suggest it. After all, the two of them wound up going back and forth online amid Drake’s lyrical battle with Kendrick Lamar. Drizzy even got a diss track directed at him, “Champagne Moments,” in which Ross accuses him of getting a nose job and much more.

Drake has yet to make a statement on the viral altercation, but Ross recently took to The Shade Room with a brief message. “I thought they were bottle service boys ha!” he said. Drake Is Actively Embracing The ’69 God’ Nickname Kendrick Lamar Gave Him On His ‘Not Like Us’ Diss

Kendrick Lamar’s Drake diss “Not Like Us” is an undeniable hit, but Drake appears to be taking it in stride. In fact, he seems to be embracing a nickname that Kendrick gave him on the track, when he referred to him as “a 69 god.”

A video shared on Instagram by photographer Astral shows Drake taking his turn at a bowling alley, and the name he chose for display on the score screen is “69god.”

This comes days after Keke Palmer expressed confusion about the lyric, saying in a video on Instagram, “Now this is no shade, no tea, but I have a question, OK? ‘Cause I know the rap kids, they do a lot of little clever lines, especially somebody like Kendrick. But I really am curious of what’s so bad about being a 69 god? I guess what I’m saying is, far as I knew, 69 was something that just made you a reciprocal, right? So if you’re a 69 god, you know, what’s so bad about that? I must be missing something. We’ll see, boo.”

Per Genius, there are a number of possible interpretations of the lyric. One has to do with the “phonetic similarities between ’69’ and ’16-eyeing,’” regarding allegations of grooming and pedophilia. The lyric could also be drawing a connection to Tekashi 69.

Just as a reminder, Ross had his own issue with Drake. This incident happened in Vancouver for the Ignite Music Festival.

Rick Ross Was Punched In The Face After Playing Kendrick Lamar’s Drake Diss ‘Not Like Us’ In Canada

Rick Ross has made it clear he was on Kendrick Lamar’s side in his feud against Drake. When he was in Canada this past weekend, he paid for it.

At the end of Ross’ set at the Ignite Music Festival in Vancouver on Sunday (June 30), he played Lamar’s Drake diss track “Not Like Us.” A video shows Ross, shortly after leaving the stage, as the song is still playing. He was confronted by a group who were apparently angered by Ross playing the song in Drake’s home country. The situation became physical when one of the men punched Ross in the face, which started a brawl between them and Ross’ associates.

The brawl lasted for minutes, and by the end of it, one of Ross’ associates was unconscious and had to be carried away.

Previously, Drake dissed Ross on “Push Ups.” Ross ended up clapping back by suggesting on his song “Champagne Moments” that Drake got a nose job.

The two then apparently had an exchange in the DMs, and Ross later advised Drake to not respond to Lamar’s “Euphoria,” saying, “I know we not friends, but let me give you this advice because you ain’t got nobody around you, you ain’t got no real n****s around you. Let me put it like that: ain’t no real n****s. Stop. Don’t respond. Don’t respond. You ain’t even peep when the intro came on with that Teddy Pendergrass, that was that Black vibe. Don’t do it. Don’t go write an 8-minute verse.”

Taraji P Henson Channels Kendrick Lamar To Parody “Not Like Us” During BET Awards

Taraji P Henson performed a parody of Kendrick Lamar’s hit song, “Not Like Us,” to open the 2024 BET Awards on Sunday night. In doing so, she rocked a similar outfit to what he wore for The Pop Out – Ken & Friends concert in Los Angeles, earlier this month. She also changed the lyrics to “it’s about us.”

Fans on social media had mixed responses to the bit. “This is super corny but that song is hot,” one user wrote on X (formerly Twitter). Another remarked: “As proven this track took off because of the beat lol.” Elsewhere during Henson’s opening monologue, she made reference to Donald Trump’s recent comments on “Black jobs” during the first presidential debate for the 2024 election. “[This is] a show packed full of all-stars with Black jobs. Whatever that means,” she said. “But clearly we know there’s a difference – thanks for the info, but we already knew it.”

Drake Embraces Kendrick Lamar’s “69 God” Nickname On Bowling Outing

Drake and Kendrick Lamar’s viral lyrical battle continues to be a hot topic of debate, and lately, it appears as though Drizzy has opted to make the best of the undoubtedly tough situation. After the two of them went back and forth with several scathing disses, the general consensus was that Kendrick came out on top. This is due in part to his explosive track “Not Like Us.” In it, he accuses Drake and other members of his OVO crew of being “certified pedophiles,” and more.

In the song, Kendrick also repeatedly calls Drake a “69 god.” It seems like he wasn’t too offended by this, however. Over the weekend, the hitmaker was spotted out bowling with some friends, and using this as his player name. It remains unclear exactly what Kendrick meant by the lyric, though of course, social media users have plenty of theories.

Drake Makes Light Of Kendrick Lamar Beef With “Not Like Us” Reference

Last week, for example, Keke Palmer hopped online to question what the nickname is supposed to suggest. She argued that if it was a reference to the rapper’s bedroom habits, it should actually be taken as a compliment. Her remarks sparked a debate among fans, with many agreeing with her or sharing their own interpretations of the line. Some also believe it could be a reference to fellow artist 6ix9ine, who’s dealt with his own fair share of sexual predator allegations in the past.

Either way, it’s clear that Drake is unfazed by the shady nickname, and has even gone so far as to embrace it. What do you think of Drake seemingly making light of Kendrick Lamar’s “69 god” jab during a recent bowling excursion? Are you surprised or not? What do you think Kendrick meant by the nickname?
