The severe weather and rain that has poured over South Florida on Wednesday has forced local and state-wide officials to declare a state of emergency in Miami-Dade County and other surrounding South Florida counties.

Miami-Dade Mayor made her declaration first yesterday, stating, “I just declared a local state of emergency in Miami-Dade County, effective immediately, in response to the inclement weather and excessive rainfall affecting South Florida. As our departments and first responders continue working to keep residents and businesses safe, this is a necessary step to protect the health, safety and welfare of the entire community.”

In an X post made last night, Gov DeSantis said “I have declared a state of emergency for Broward, Collier, Lee, Miami-Dade, and Sarasota counties due to major flooding from Invest 90L. DEM Director Kevin Guthrie and the @FLSERT team will be on-site to coordinate the state response.”

DeSantis added, “preliminary reports indicate that the rainfall and flooding has affected and may continue to impact the operational capability of critical infrastructure, including major interstates, state and county roadways, airports, schools, and other critical infrastructure.”

Miami-Dade and much of South Florida was impacted by severe weather on Wednesday, with more than a foot of rain falling in a few hours in certain areas, triggering a rare flash flood emergency.

The EO for South Florida has also extended to Broward, Collier, Lee, and Sarasota counties.

[WATCH] Dipset’s Hell Rell Explains Why “Backpack Rap” Has Been “Wiped Out”

Screenshot 2024 06 13 at 7.54.36 AM

On a recent episode of Circle The Block Radio, Dipset soldier Hell Rell gave a very interesting and thought provoking perspective as to why “conscious” Hip Hop has been virtually “wiped out”.

Even though Rell’s points sound a bit like those of a conspiracy theorist, those who have closely observed the rap game for the past two decades can at least understand where he’s coming from.

“They got rid of that whole genre. Who’s the new Common Sense, Talib Kweli or Mos Def? You got a few of ’em that’s trying to get in, but their genre has just been totally wiped the fuck out”, Rell said beginning at around the 33 minute mark.

He added, “We always worked with that genre; we never looked down on the backpackers and the positive n-ggas. We collab’d with them. JAY-Z did songs with them. That genre kinda got wiped out ’cause I think they knew that shit was making n-ggas become more conscious.”

Though Rell’s insight has some truth to it, artists such as Tyler The Creator, Joey Bada$$, J. Cole, K. Dot and others have steered clear of the common destructive themes and Hip Hop and tackled more socially concerning topics in their music.

Kendrick Lamar And Drake Diss Tracks Sold As Cassette Tape Collectible

Kendrick and Drake’s beef has become so historic within the culture, that some bright minded entrepreneur created the idea of packaging the entire series of diss tracks between Drizzy and K.Dot on a cassette tape and selling it as a collectible item for authentic Hip Hop aficionados.

X(formerly Twitter) user @3ternalsirenity posted a pic of the attractively packaged cassette on X yesterday(June 11) complete with a $199.99 price tag, but it was discovered that Tape Head City is selling it on their website for $16 (plus shipping).

The Certified Lover Boy bombed first with “First Person Shooter” featuring J. Col last year with a subliminal shot at Kendrick, who hit back with a feature verse of his own on Metro Boomin’ and Future’s “Like That”. Drake’s second effort was “Push Ups(Drop And Gimme 50)”, which was succeeded by Dot’s “Euphoria.” Soonafter, “Family Matters,” “Taylor Made Freestyle” and “Meet The Grahams” were just prequels to Kendrick’s monstrous smash “Not Like Us”, which seemed to have ended the battle.

Drizzy’s “Taylor Made Freestyle” is no longer available online as the 6 God had to remove it from all platforms after the Tupac estate issued a cease and desist letter to the former Disney star for his unauthorized use of ‘Pac’s voice.

Thus far, the last offering from either side was Drizzy’s “The Heart Part 6.”.

[WATCH] Violence Erupts In The Crowd At Gunna’s Atlanta Concert

YSL rapper Gunna made his first hometown appearance on stage yesterday(June 11), but his return to Atlanta was overshadowed by a wild brawl that took place during his show at State Farm Arena.

Video footage from the show in Atlanta showed several people throwing wild punches very close to the stage before Gunna even took the stage. The skirmish seemed to be between two women and ended with a vicious body slam of one of the women involved.

See the front row brawl HERE

Despite the fight, Gunna managed to sell out the State Farm Arena in his first appearance on stage sice pleading out of the YSL RICO case.

The concert at State Farm was the last stop on his Bittersweet Tour, which began in early May and took the “Fuck U Mean” rapper across North America alongside support act Flo Milli.

The sold out crowd proved the support he has from fans for his latest album One of Wun, which reached No. 2 on the Billboard 200 chart.

Meanwhile, his former co-defendant, Young Thug, is currently in the midst of one of the most bizarre court cases in the state of Georgia and possibly the country. Thug’s lawyer has been held in contempt of court for not revealing to the court how he found out about the secret meeting between the Judge Granville, the prosecution and Lil Woody.

YSL Trial Update: Judge Glanville Determined To Find Out Who Told Young Thug’s Lawyer About Controversial Private Meeting

Mother of Murder Victim Testifies in YSL Rico Trial

Judge Ural Glanville has his sights set on who informed Brian Steel, Young Thug’s attorney, about the ex parte meeting with himself, the prosecution, and controversial witness Kenneth “Lil Woody” Copeland. Yesterday(June 11), Judge Granville announced a Show Cause order to everyone present for the conversation to prove that they were not the source of the leaked information or they will be held in contempt.

The meeting is scheduled to be held on June 25th.

On Monday, Steel demanded a mistrial in court after finding out about the ex parte meeting. Copeland decided not to testify, even after taking an immunity which required his testimony on the stand.

“You’re not supposed to have communication with a witness who’s been sworn,” Steel argued. “… If that’s true what this is is coercion, witness intimidation, ex parte communications that we have a constitutional right to be present for.”

“I still want to know, how did you come upon this information,” Glanville demanded. “Who told you?” Glanville held Steel in contempt of court, sentencing him to 10 weekends in jail. “You don’t get to extort the court. It doesn’t work that way,” he said. Steel also requested that he spend the jail time in the same cell as Young Thug if his appeal doesn’t go through.

The YSL/Young Thug RICO trial is the longest-running proceeding in Georgia’s history.

Benny The Butcher Says Lloyd Banks is a Rapper You ‘Don’t Play With’

Lloyd Banks Responds to Rick Ross Diss: 'I'll Never Join The Circus'

Benny the Butcher gives Lloyd Banks his flowers while he can still smell them. In a video online, The Butcher praises Banks for his career.

“That n–ga Banks one of the top n—as ever with bars,” The Butcher said. “That’s one rap n-gga n-ggas don’t play with. It’s certain rap n-ggas n-ggas don’t play with. He got a million lines, you’ll be like, ‘How the fuck I didn’t think of that?’”

In April, Lloyd Banks shared his highly anticipated studio album The Course of the Inevitable 3: Pieces of My Pain today. With features from Method Man, Vado, 38 Spesh, Tony Yayo, Dave East, and Cormega, and production from Cartune Beats, George Getson, and more, Banks yet again delivers an instant hip hop classic across 16 records. The album is accompanied by a music video for “Invisible” – watch here.

On COTI3, Banks shows his growth as a person and artist. Records like “Cliffhanger” and “Opened Gates” speak on success, self awareness, and change. On “Voices” he acknowledges his vulnerability while overcoming negativity. “Showers” and “Daddy’s Little Girl” bring bright spots to the project sharing the emotions of fatherhood. Earlier this year he shared two early records from this album with “Movie Scenes” and “101 Razors” featuring Method Man – watch that music video here. The album artwork is symbolic of growth showing an older version of his son on the cover, while the images of Banks in broken glass describe the pain he raps about.

Today In Hip Hop History: The YNW Melly Double Murder Trial Began One Year Ago

YNWMelly'sEarlyReleaseDeniedDespiteCOVID Diagnosis

On this date in 2023, the double murder trial of Jamell Demons aka YNW Melly began, with opening statements from the prosecution and the defense also given on the same day. Melly was charged and arrested for the premeditated murders in the first-degree of Anthony D’Andre Williams (YNW Sakchaser) and Christopher Jermaine Thomas Jr. (YNW Juvy).

The case goes back to October 2018, when Demons and Cortlen Malik Henry (YNW Bortlen), allegedly shot and killed their fellow crew members YNW Sakchaser and YNW Juvy in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, but later claimed that the two were murdered in a drive-by shooting. Following a grand jury indictment of Demons and Henry for the murders, Demons and Henry were arrested on February 13, 2019 and charged with the premeditated first-degree murders of Williams and Thomas. Demons pleaded not guilty.

The trial gained national notoriety not just because Melly’s most notable single was called “Murder On My Mind”, but also if Melly is convicted of these murders, he could possibly face the death penalty. Florida Governor Ron DeSantis has a new non-unanimous death sentence law, in which the jury will only need to have at least eight out of twelve jurors agree to recommend the death penalty rather than it being unanimous.

On July 22, 2023, Judge John Murphy declared a mistrial after the jury remained deadlocked on the charges, with a 9-to-3 vote in favor of convicting Demons on the lesser offenses of manslaughter.

As of June 2024, there is no verdict in the YNW Melly case. The rapper’s retrial for the double murder of his associates is currently on hold due to an appeal filed by prosecutors concerning the admissibility of a documentary film as evidence. This appeal has caused an indefinite delay in the retrial proceedings. While Melly’s defense team has requested to move forward with the discovery phase of the trial, the judge has not yet ruled on this request pending the outcome of the appeal. The case remains ongoing, and it is unclear when the retrial will resume or when a verdict will be reached.

Today In Hip Hop History: Three 6 Mafia Dropped Their Fourth LP ‘When The Smoke Clears: Sixty 6, Sixty 1’ 24 Years Ago

On this day in Hip Hop history, infamous Memphis underground legends Three 6 Mafia release their fourth studio album When the Smoke Clears: Sixty 6, Sixty 1. Ironically peaking at #6 on the Billboard 200 chart, this project brought Three 6 Mafia that much closer to penetrating the mainstream with their unique style of horrorcore Hip Hop. To follow the theme of the previous two albums, this album’s title continues on the post-apocalyptic theme that can be translated to the group’s (successful) attempt to take over the mainstream Hip Hop industry, insinuating that “when the smoke clears” Three 6 Mafia will still be around standing strong.

One of the attributes that set this album apart from anything Three 6 has put out in the past is the number of features that come with it. UGK, Insane Clown Posse, Big Gipp, Mr. Serv-On, Fiend, and Twiztid all appeared in the project. This album also toted some of Three Six Mafia’s most popular and recognizable tracks, including “Sippin’ On Some Sizzurp” and “I’m So Hi,” which both grew to be staples of underground rap history.

Commercially, this album opened the door for Three 6 Mafia to ensure their place among some of the titans of the era. Selling 1,000,000 copies in the year of its release, When The Smoke Clears allowed the group to have the following they needed for their forthcoming film Choices to be as successful as it was.

Following this album, Three 6 Mafia bloomed on the rap scene, going on to release six more highly successful albums as well as two films and an Oscar for their work on the Hustle and Flow soundtrack, making them the only rap group to receive the award.
