Slum Village Unveils Another Single Ahead Of New Album, “Request”

It’s been quite some time since listeners have heard a new album from Slum Village, but luckily, they won’t have to wait much longer. Currently, the duo is gearing up to drop their upcoming full-length project, FUN. While fans are still waiting for an official release date, it’s safe to say they can’t wait. Slum Village kicked things off with the project’s first single “Just Like You” back in April of last year, teaming up with Larry June and the Dramatics.

Now, they’re back with another, tapping Earlly Mac and UK-based hip hop group Abstract Orchestra for “Request.” The bouncy, Young RJ-produced track features a groovy bassline and plenty of sharp bars. It marks the start of yet another new musical era for the pair, who’ve been at it for almost three decades since their unofficial debut, Fan-Tas-Tic Vol. 1.

Chloe x Halle Have New Music On The Way

It’s been a busy few months for Chloe and Halle Bailey, to say the least. For one, Halle welcomed her first child Halo at the end of last year with DDG, following months of relentless pregnancy rumors. She also appeared in The Little Mermaid and The Color Purple in 2023, all while keeping her growing bump a secret from the public.

As for Chloe, she blew fans away with her debut solo album In Pieces earlier this year, and again with a supporting tour. She recently accepted the “Generation Next” award at the Urban One Honors, a strong start to the new year. Chloe was also busy defending her sister amid the aforementioned pregnancy rumors throughout the end of 2023, which was surely no easy task.

UMI Releases New Ep “Talking To The Wind” That Reflects On A Unique Time In Her Career

It has been quite some time since HNHH has talked about Seattle, Washington-bred R&B/Soul artist UMI. A lot has happened over the past year or so for the 24-year-old singer. Vulture recently put out a feature piece the day she came through with her brand-new EP, talking to the wind. It is a four-track offering that had half of its songs released months before. Those two were “happy im” and “why dont we go.” UMI is not the most active name in the space, at least in the past couple of years.

But, as we mentioned, she has gone through quite a bit of turmoil. In her particular case, it has to do with the falling out with her now-former RCA-affiliated label, Keep Cool Records. This new ep is UMI’s first release since leaving after it was her dream in high school to join it. In her conversation with Vulture, she gave her reasoning as to why it was time.

Listen To Talking To The Wind By UMI

“I wanted to leave because I knew it wasn’t serving me anymore. I didn’t feel like there was any excitement at my label for me.” However, even though the label was ahead of UMI’s schedule and it took a chunk out of her, it was the right thing for her career. “My ego definitely was like, ‘F*** you, you’re gonna drop me?’ And then I was like, UMI, you wanted to leave and you’ve been hinting at that for a while, so why are you mad?” Furthermore, she explained the meaning of the title. “The EP was made during that unknown time. When I felt lost during that process, I spent so much time outside letting the wind just touch me and heal me. The wind kept telling me, ‘UMI, just trust.’” Hear what UMI has to say with the links above.

What are your thoughts on this brand-new EP, talking to the wind, by UMI? Is this the best body of work she has ever put out, why or why not? Which tracks are you gravitating toward the most and why? Kota The Friend Spits With Ease On Upcoming Album Cut “Yuma”

Kota the Friend just has a knack for writing quick but memorable cuts. That is what he was able to do with his latest effort “Yuma.” Another thing he likes to do is travel as a lot of song titles are either named after states, cities, and landmarks. Kota’s last journey took him to the scenic West Coast state of “Oregon” for what is now the lead single to his upcoming album.

The prolific rapper hailing from Brooklyn has a long-standing series in his discography. Lyrics to GO has four entries with the most recent one dropping nearly a year ago to the day. Now, Kota will be introducing us to the fifth installment this coming Thursday, January 25. The project will feature 12 tracks and one feature/beat from the legendary Hit-Boy.

Listen To “Yuma” By Kota the Friend

Some of the names of the songs include “Milan,” “Vienna,” “Beijing,” Alabama Hills,” and “Yuma.” The latter is the second and presumably last rollout single for Lyrics to GO Vol. 5. It is another short listen with sharp lyricism. Kota details how fun it is to travel across the country to perform. He also talks about living a free life while simultaneously thinking back to the unfortunate lives his ancestors lived.

What are your thoughts on this brand-new single, “Yuma,” by Kota the Friend? Is this one of his better songs in recent memory? Will Lyrics to GO Vol. 5 be the best installment in the series, why or why not? Out of the two album singles, which one is better and why? A post shared by Ché Noir (@che_noir)

For the lead single “Junior High,” Che, Evidence, and Droog are all recalling their past back when they were young. Besides the obvious attention to detail in the writing, the same applies to the production. It is extremely blissful with fantastic soulful vocal chops and a boom-bap instrumental. There is also a great incorporation of these weird sound effects. They sound cartoonish, but they add so much character and layering that just works. Check out the song with the YouTube link above.

What are your thoughts on this brand-new track, “Junior High,” by Che Noir, Evidence, and Your Old Droog? Is this one of the best singles of the year? Will this upcoming project, The Color Chocolate Vol. 1, be one of the best EPs of the year? Which rapper had the best performance here? We would like to hear what you have to say about all of this. Hus KingPin And 9th Wonder Combine Their Talents To Become “The Supergoat”

Two standouts in the underground scene have just come together for a brand-new collaborative tape. Brooklyn, New York rapper Hus KingPin, and Winston-Salem, North Carolina producer 9th Wonder present to us The Supergoat. For Hus, this is his tenth project in less than a year. 2023 was another massively productive year for the wordsmith.

From February 7 to December 15, Hus KingPin put in his head down and hustled to get out nine tapes. Two of them were joint efforts. Bolio EPetersen saw he and M.W.P. work alongside each other. Then, SmooVth, who is also featured on this new project, joined Hus on Paid In Full. For 9th Wonder, this follows-up his gargantuan 55-song instrumental endeavor, Bladey Mae (Grandma’s Blades), which was a Christmas Day release.

Snupe Bandz Is Thankful For His New Life On “Scarred”

Young Dolph left an indelible mark on the Southern rap scene, especially in Memphis. However, that influence even trickled down into the state of Louisiana. That is where Snupe Bandz calls home. Besides making hits, Dolph was also doing what he could to put other artists on by creating his own music label.

Paper Route Empire, independently owned since 2008, has treated us to some great music outside of its late founder. Snupe is one of them for sure and he is bringing the heat with an all-new single. This is his first release since his lone record dropped in mid-October of 2022. Snupe collaborated with another fellow signee, PaperRoute Woo for Boyz N The Hood.

Listen To “Scarred” By Snupe Bandz

One thing you will come to notice about Snupe’s music is its street grittiness. “Scarred” is just that and it feels like he really went through the trials and tribulations to get to where he is now. According to his bio on Instagram, he appears to have lost his mother some time ago. While that is not the theme in particular, there could be some loose influence from that tragic event. We wish him the best going forward. But, the song is about all the grinding Snupe had to endure to make it in the rap game. In addition to the realness of the lyrics, the hook is a standout to as he raps with some great rhythm.

What are your thoughts on this brand-new single, “Scarred,” by Snupe Bandz? Is this one of his better songs? Do you think Snupe is the best rapper on the Paper Route Empire label, why or why not? Is this a sign of a new album coming soon? We would like to hear what you have to say about all of this. With that in mind, be sure to leave all of your hottest takes in the comments section below. Additionally, always keep it locked in with HNHH for all of the latest news surrounding Snupe Bandz. Finally, stay with us for the most informative song posts throughout the week.

Anycia Continues To Flourish With Latto Collab “BACK OUTSIDE”

Just days ago, DJ Akademiks found footage of Latto recording a music video for a brand-new single. Fans were hyped for it and now we have it. However, this is not a Latto song. Rising fellow Atlanta femcee Anycia takes the reigns on this cut. “BACK OUTSIDE” is the 26-year-old’s fourth collaboration single since she began releasing music to streaming in late 2022.

Anycia has worked with more underground names like MVW, Robb Bank$, and up-and-comer KARRAHBOOO. So, this is a big moment for the young artist. She possesses a deep and low-key voice that exudes confidence. You can find this similar energy on tracks like “BRB” and “SPLASH BROTHERS,” for example.

Listen To “BACK OUTSIDE” By Anycia And Latto

Latto brings her usual solid flows over a horn-backed trap beat provided by Jetsonmade. Anycia spoke with BET about how this sudden wave of success has changed her life. “The best thing that I’ve gotten out of everything is the instant confidence boost. I feel superduper more love, and it’s not even so much from the outside. It’s an internal thing.” She continues, “It’s kind of one of those things where you tell yourself you can’t do something or you have every doubt in the world that it won’t work or just thinking about all the things that will go wrong. And then you finally do it and it works.”

What are your thoughts on this brand-new single, “BACK OUTSIDE,” by Anycia and Latto? Who had the better performance on the song and why? Is Anycia going to turn herself into a star by the end of 2024? Is Latto still the best rapper from Atlanta? We would like to hear what you have to say about all of this. With that in mind, be sure to leave all of your hottest takes in the comments section below. Additionally, always keep it locked in with HNHH for all of the latest news surrounding Anycia and Latto.
