2024 is off to a great start musically speaking. After an up-and-down to slow 2023, it is looking like this is the year we fest once again. Throughout the month of January the mainstream, the tweeners, and the unheralded talents have all been bringing some incredible material. One of the names contributing heavily to this explosive month is Bryson Tiller. The Kentucky R&B singer is doing some exciting things over in the Soundcloud realm if you have not been paying attention. The way he is doing this is by his weekly drop schedule called Tiller Tuesdays.

This is a way for dedicated music fans to use more avenues to find new material. January 9 was the the day of inaugural single to kick this off. “Lost Intro” got fans buzzing on the platform as it has over 280,000 streams in just a couple of weeks. Tiller Tuesdays is a separate set from the SLUM TILLER volumes he has also been releasing. However, he did use one of his Tuesdays to get out the third installment in that series.

JT Unveils New Single, Its Cover Art, & Release Date

At the beginning of January, JT, of the femcee rap duo City Girls, hinted at a single on her Twitter account. “Sideways is a song not a verse & in 2024 I want to go from ‘JT has good verses!’ to ‘JT make good songs !!’” It is always exciting to hear artists want to constantly improve and change the narrative around them. Many people had a lot of negative things to say about RAW, the City Girls’ most recent full-length. Low first-week sales in the single digits dug the hole deeper for them to crawl out of.

However, one bright spot from that record was JT’s solo song “No Bars.” A high-octane banger that was all gas and no brakes. In addition to that, fans were eager to hear what she could do as a solo artist. Especially with an R&B snippet that surfaced and some karaoke raps as well. It seems that the proclamation we referred to at the beginning is going to be the start of this new era for JT.

“Sideways” is indeed the name of a confirmed single as JT announced she would drop it this week. It will hit streaming services this Friday, February 2 and plenty are happy about this. Actress Skai Jackson comments, “It’s time sister ” Lori Harvey writes, “FINALLY!!!! ” Kali Uchis even chimes in, “
yeaaaaa !!!” With all of this build-up, we will see how she delivers on the promise she made to herself and the fans.

NBA YoungBoy is easily one of the most popular artists of this generation. Overall, he has had a lot of success when it comes to capturing the attention of the youth. Although it has been hard for him to do well on Spotify and Apple Music, he has certainly been nothing short of dominant on YouTube. Moreover, he is a prolific artist who has been able to keep up his momentum by dropping a steady stream of new music. However, in recent months, some fans have found themselves at odds with their previous tastes.

One of the biggest knocks against YoungBoy over the years has been that he sounds the same on every track. Ultimately, this is a critique that a lot of artists have been hit with over the years. That said, with each new YoungBoy snippet, it appears as though fans are growing tired, and are clamoring for something new. For instance, Akademiks shared a new NBA YoungBoy snippet on Sunday night, and it was met with a pretty tepid response. In fact, most were negative with their thoughts.

As you can see in the comments section above, there was a harsh reception to this new joint. “People starting to catch on to the lil baby effect every song the same and it’s garbage,” one person wrote. “Boy been making the same song for 10 yrs straight,” said another. Clearly not everyone is feeling this direction. However, there is always time to change and evolve. Hopefully, that is what YoungBoy does.

Eminem may have just dropped a new song “Doomsday Pt. 2” with Lyrical Lemonade dissing Benzino and Coi Leray, but he recently hinted that he’s not done. Moreover, ahead of the Detroit Lions’ playoff game against the San Francisco 49ers, which will determine who will go to the Super Bowl this year, he gave a call to Shade 45‘s DJ Whoo Kid to talk about the occasion. Of course, the radio host couldn’t help but ask Marshall Mathers (or Slim Shady… we don’t know who was speaking) about what else he has in store for the year. To that, he said that he’s “working on a little something,” which once again reignited Stans everywhere’s excitement for a new album.

However, this is all speculative at press time, and artists say stuff like this all the time to keep fans engaged. In addition, Eminem is so legendary in the game that he doesn’t have to drop a project ever again… in fact, haters are begging him to do just that. But one thing he definitely doesn’t play with is his beloved Lions, who might make the Super Bowl for the first time in franchise history. The Detroit native expressed wishes to go to Nevada if they make it, spoke on Shade 45‘s 20-year anniversary in 2024, and threatened Lions coach Ben Johnson with a diss track if he leaves.

Still, that wasn’t the funniest thing that Marshall Mathers -– no, this was definitely Slim Shady -– did to show his love for his football team. In it, you can see Eminem flipping off a gaggle of San Francisco fans looking in his direction: two hands up, thumbs out, and middle fingers high in the sky. We can’t wait to see how long it takes for an underground NFL-loving rapper from the D to use this as cover art.

Following the 2022 release of his album Where The Shooters Be, the Michigan-born performer unveiled various singles. He unleashed “Got Me Hot” back in September, and later came through with “Major Leagues” just ahead of the new year.

He even shared a romantic track called “With My Boo” a few months ago, which would surely make a great addition to listeners’ Valentine’s Day playlists. Earlier this week, he dropped off yet another single. This time, he’s gone back to his roots to diss his ops on “32 Bars.”

The track sees SleazyWorld Go spit menacing bars about taking down the competition over a simple lively beat. So far, his boastful rhymes have listeners impressed, and they seem to want to hear more. His comments section is flooded with demands for him to drop another full-length project, though it remains unclear if or when he plans to do so.

He did recently hop on Instagram to tease an accompanying music video for “32 Bars,” however. He shared a short black-and-white clip from what appears to be the music video, telling fans to let him know if they want to see the rest. “Yall want the music video to this ? Kanye West Clears IG Ahead Of “Vultures” Release, Fans Wonder What He’s Planning

It goes without saying that fans are growing impatient amid the wait for Kanye West’s upcoming project with Ty Dolla Sign, Vultures. He was previously scheduled to drop in December, but alas, it’s seen various delays since. It’s now supposed to drop in three different volumes, the first of which arrives in February, or so Ye says. The second volume of Vultures is said to drop in March, and the third in April.

As fans continue to speculate about the arrival, what features they can expect, and more, Ye has updated his Instagram page, leaving them curious. He deleted all of his scandalous Bianca Censori photos, along with everything else. On top of deleting his photos, he also unfollowed everybody.

This latest update has some fans wondering if this was meant as some kind of hint, as artists frequently wipe their pages clean ahead of major releases. Others are concerned that it indicates the project will be delayed once again. “This means he’s about to delay the album for the 5th time or something big is about to happen,” one writes. “YE is cooking something up fs,” another says. “Vultures about to be added to his ‘albums never dropped by Kanye’ collection,” somebody else worries. Of course, it’s also possible that he simply cleared his page for a fresh start, meaning that all of the speculation has been for nothing. Regardless, it continues.

It looks like supporters will just have to wait to find out what Ye’s up to. In the meantime, he unveiled a spooky Vultures trailer last week, giving them a taste of what’s to come. Teezo Touchdown Scores Big On Our New “R&B Season” Playlist Update: Stream

While it’s not the most stacked one in our history, this R&B Season playlist update still contains some of the best music to have dropped this week. Leading the way is the star-studded Lyrical Lemonade album All Is Yellow, put together by Cole Bennett and all the supporting artists. One of the most soulful and tender cuts on the project is the excellent “Hummingbird,” which reunites a compelling and eclectic cast. Teezo Touchdown, SahBabii, and UMI come together with a lot of chemistry over some acoustic guitar flutters and harmonious background vocals. Not only that, but it also finds each musician slightly out of their comfort zone thanks to the unexpected nature of this collab, although Teezo is certainly cozy with surprises and fusions.

Next on our R&B Season playlist update is Rhyan Douglas’ new single “Conversations,” which kicks off with woozy and swirling vocal samples. Eventually, it falls into the sultry and snap-led R&B rhythm that we’ve grown to love from the genre, complete with high-pitched, ethereal croons. Eventually, vocal processing, soft piano, and dynamic range from Douglas fleshes out the song a little bit more, yet it doesn’t lose its atmosphere. In fact, it’s impressive and surprising that the record never swells or explodes percussively, yet you can still feel a strong momentum as you’re closing it out.

Meanwhile, back to projects on our R&B Season playlist, we have a new four-track EP (Blended) from Emotional Oranges and Nonso Amadi. It’s a light, breezy, and easy-going bite-sized treat of dancehall, Afrobeat, and soul fusions, of which “Simple Things” is a particular highlight. Again, we have guitars leading the way melodically and chord-wise, whereas all vocalists can show off their range and runs in this lovey-dovey narrative. While the identity of the song is a bit blurry, this treatment of different styles is also what will make it resonate for many listeners out there.

Nicki Minaj Announces New Single, “Bigfoot”

Nicki Minaj has announced the release of a new single, “Bigfoot”. The track will drop at 3 PM PST on January 28, according to a tweet from Minaj herself. Furthermore, Minaj announced the track with the inclusion of an image of Megan Thee Stallion looking unimpressed. For many fans, this signaled that the track could be a direct musical response to Megan’s recently released “Hiss”.

The beef between the two rappers absolutely exploded this week after Megan’s new track took shots at Nicki. Specifically, Megan took aim at the various connections to sex offenders that Minaj has in her life. The line “Megan’s Law” in “Hiss” refers to the sex offender registry law that Minaj’s husband fell afoul of. Kenneth Petty, who was a childhood friend of Minaj’s, served four years in prison for the attempted rape of a minor. Minaj’s response has mostly been limited to Twitter until the surprise track announcement.

However, the beef has proven divisive among rap fans. While some believe that Megan went too far, others are starting to see a disturbing trend for Minaj. The beef led some fans to take a closer look at “Roman Zolanski”, the alter ego that Minaj occasionally drops verses as. However, many fans are now only learning for the first time that Minaj has never shied from Roman’s name being a play on that of Roman Polanski. Polanski is an Oscar-winning director who is perhaps best known for pleading guilty to statutory rape of a minor. The girl was 13 at the time of the rape and had also been drugged by Polanski.

Nicki has already dipped into the Roman well at least once during this beef with Megan. “Megan’s law. For a free beat you could hit #MeganRAW,” Minaj tweeted late Friday night. Furthermore, the tweet was signed “Roman”. While the tweet could be taken several ways, one popular theory is that it refers to rumors about Megan’s ex, Pardison Fontaine. As noted on Megan’s late 2023 track “Cobra”, she allegedly walked in on her ex having unprotected sex with another woman in her bed.

The 31-year-old is back to deliver his fifth Lyrics to GO, Vol. 5. It is a series that began nearly four years ago to the day. Like almost all Kota projects, the tracklist is trim, leaving little to no room for error. But, he is up to the challenge as always and he succeeds with flying colors.

It just comes so easily for Kota. His flows never feel forced and it is like the beats have to form to his flows rather than him having to conform to the production. Not many rappers have that ability and he is a part of that crowd. Kota put out a handful of singles for this project, including the most recent, “YUMA.” The producer credits are stacked as well. Hit-Boy and Statik Selektah headline the main acts, while Dakun, Exile, and Sango fill in the cracks beautifully. This is a top-tier release of 2024 so far and it has a great chance of being on end-of-the-year lists.

Pressa And Toosii Flex Their Success On “W Hotel”

Canada and North Carolina talents have just merged to bring a perfect track for those chill late nights. Pressa and Toosii, two rappers who have been in the game for about 13 years in total are meeting for the first time. Their respective abilities have formed a new single called “W Hotel.” For both of these auto-crooners, this is the first single that they have been a part of in 2024.

For Pressa, the Toronto native, this is his first track since November of 2023. Back then, he dropped a solo cut called “Pressalicious,” another chill and dance-ready vibe. This song may make a nice comeback for the summer of 2024 because its release during the winter just did not fit the timeline. On the feature side of things, Toosii is returning after dropping “IDGAF.”
