Ralo Unleashes “97 Months” Project Ft. Jadakiss & More

We’re still counting down the days until Ralo comes home. Since 2018, the rapper’s remained behind bars related to drug trafficking charges. However, he hasn’t allowed his incarceration to slow down his musical output. The rapper returned to the fold this weekend with the official release of 97 Months. His new mixtape boasts 9 songs in total with several high-profile features. Jadakiss appears on the previously released “Street Honors,” while Rowdy Rebel joins him on “Prison Everyday.” Additional features include rising Atlanta rapper Hunxho, Rotimi, and De’rez De’Shon.

Ralo announced the project’s release earlier this month along with a photo of his daughter. He said that he wasn’t able to touch his daughter in the past five years since his arrest but he explained that he found a new sense of purpose as a rapper. “I never called myself a rapper due to the lame shit that goes on in the industry, but I can now honesty say I’m thankful for the rap game, because it helped me take care of my daughter and more my entire bid,” he explained in the statement.

Ralo Drops 97 Months

The rapper was formally sentenced to 8 years in prison in 2022 for his alleged role in the criminal conspiracy and drug trafficking case. However, he received credit for time served and still hopes that this chapter of his life will be put in the past sooner rather than later. “He was recommended 1 year ankle monitor after the halfway house approve his home address; which will bring him home to us late next year, but our goal is for him to complete his GED or RDAP Drug program so we can get another year off his sentence,” a post on his Instagram page.

Ralo received significant support from the hip-hop community during his incarceration. While plenty of rappers have shouted him out on wax, Lil Baby, for instance, gifted him $50K. Outside of Atlanta, Ralo earned support from Drake, Meek Mill, Killer Mike, and more who signed an open letter to Joe Biden advocating for his release. We’re excited for Ralo to come home and return to his career. Check out his new mixtape, 97 Months, above and sound off with your thoughts in the comments.

Summer Walker Shares Birthday Post: “She’s 27 & RICH!”

Summer Walker has a lot to be thankful for these days. The R&B star gave birth to healthy twins months ago and is already gearing up for her next project. This week, she celebrated her birthday with a hilarious post reflecting on all she’s accomplished in such a short time.

On Wednesday, she took to Instagram to wish herself a happy 27th birthday. “She’s 27 & RICH,” Walker started out the post that featured several images of herself. In each, Walker sports a pink silk night outfit with balloons decorating her home. She even invited rising rapper Sexxy Redd and Sukihana to join in on her pajama party. The ladies appeared to be enjoying themselves, prompting Walker to add a few words of reflection. “I can’t believe all I’ve accomplished being so young. 3 beautiful healthy kids, rich in love, rich in wealth, rich in knowledge, rich in spirit, & most importantly rich in happiness,” she added.

Summer Walker Is Now A Grammy Nominee

The Grammy award winner is preparing for her “Clear 2: Soft Life” mixtape. The EP is the follow-up to her 2019 four-track EP “Clear” Some details remain unknown but she did confirm it will be released on May 19th. Walker has not dropped a full body of work since 2021’s “Still Over It.” That album received rave reviews, spawning hits “Ex For a Reason,” “Toxic,” and “No Love.” She took a break to expand her family with her boyfriend rapper LVRD Pharoh. It appears they’ve broken up, but Walker still is in a great place. “Still Over It” documented part of her breakup with producer London on the Track. They share a two-year-old daughter.

It’s unclear how else Walker plans to turn up for her birthday. Given her documented battle with social anxiety, a slumber party with close friends seems right up her alley. Earlier this week, she tweeted a series of photos. She also revealed that one of her earlier singles, “Karma” is now platinum. “One of the best birthday gifts is karma,” she wrote. Despite her relationship woes that have invaded the blogs in recent years, Summer Walker looks like she’s in a great space.

J. Stalin Drops Long-Awaited Sequel, “Prenuptial Agreement 2”

J. Stalin has finally released a follow-up to his 2010 mixtape, Prenuptial Agreement, 13 years later. The Bay Area rapper shared Prenuptial Agreement 2 on Friday.

The new project features guest appearances from Philthy Rich, Jackboy, Jane Handcock, and more. As for producers, Stalin teamed up with Juneonnabeat and The Mekanix, among others.

The original mixtape was a pivotal moment in popularizing mob music from the Bay Area.

“Mob music is sinister basses and sinister snares,” Stalin has explained, as noted by Audible Treats. “It’s all in the drums and snares and it’s real bassy. It’s a distinctive sound, created by producers like DJ Duo, Ant Banks, Mike D, and Rick Rock. When the first Prenup came out, hyphy was what was popping in the Bay Area. Mob rappers like me, we made some hyphy tracks, but hyphy was kid-like to us. When we did hyphy, we mixed it with mob sounds and harder lyrics. Mob was our version of what drill is now. Prenup brought the Bay sound back to mob music. Hyphy wasn’t as popular by 2010, and everyone was saying, ‘What are we gonna do now, how is the sound gonna be now?’ When I dropped Prenuptial Agreement, the whole city knew: ‘this is the new sound.’”

DC The Don Opens Up His “SACRED HEART (+)” On New Mixtape

DC The Don just released his most recent mixtape, SACRED HEART (+) on all streaming platforms. While the project originally dropped during Christmastime in 2022 exclusively on SoundCloud, DC decided to feed a larger set of fans. Moreover, the 15-track project is an energetic, buzzing, and cohesive display of alternative hip-hop.

Furthermore, the Milwaukee, Wisconsin native plays with a lot of different sounds on this record. Of course, hip-hop runs quite strongly throughout it, whether it be through energetic verses or the percussion style. On the other hand, there’s also quite a bit of digital influence on this mixtape, calling back to genres like hyperpop, digicore, and more. Also, there’s a strong undercurrent of rock in many forms, whether emo, alternative, or otherwise. Overall, DC’s sound defies genre categorization, because him and so many others carve out their own lanes.

For those of you who already heard SACRED HEART (+), there is some unfortunate news. One of the album’s tracks, “SO SICK,” did not make it onto streaming services like Spotify. While this might disappoint some fans, sample clearance issues came into play. However, the new streaming release includes three tracks featured on the albums deluxe version. Moreover, these are “RUNWAY!”, “BREAK IN HALF,” and “BROTHERS.”

Meanwhile, these stylistic influences already came through on DC’s previous album, MY OWN WORST ENEMY. Although SACRED HEART (+) might have a deeper story behind it, MY OWN WORST ENEMY definitely has that going for it. On the project, the 23-year-old tackles his alter ego and the two warring sides of him that his creative artistry might suggest.

Still, what did you think of DC The Don’s latest mixtape, SACRED HEART (+)? Whatever the case, let us know in the comments and peep the tracklist for the project down below. New York’s MIKE Drops New Album, “Beware Of The Monkey”

MIKE continues to be a shining star amongst the underground hip-hop scene.

Making music since 2015, he’s one of the leaders in the wave of abstract artists rapping over looped, sample-heavy production.

On Wednesday (December 21), the New York emcee officially dropped his latest offering, Beware of the Monkey.

The project contains 13 tracks, including its three priorly-released singles from earlier this year, “nuthin i can do is wrng,” “What Do I Do?” and “Stop Worry!”

Additionally, guest appearances come from Jadasea, Klein, King Carter and Jamaican dancehall singer, Sister Nancy.

The latter is a feature on the aforementioned “Stop Worry!” and is particularly known for her 1982 hit, “Bam Bam.”

The single finds MIKE getting introspective when reflecting on his vices and his increase in popularity. “Grab a cup and let my face drown, accompanied with trees / Stu-Stuttering away, cause the company to leave / Just need something I could break down, budge against the heat / Buckle up, we ’bout to change routes, never changing speed,” he raps explicitly in the opening verse.

Furthermore, Beware of the Monkey continues the New York rapper’s trend of dropping a new project on a yearly basis since at least 2017. It serves as the follow-up to his masterpiece from June of last year, Disco!

He subsequently made an appearance on The Alchemist‘s EP, This Thing Of Ours 2. MIKE serves as the sole feature on the second track, “Lossless.” Altogether, the short project boasts other features from the likes of Vince Staples, MAVI and Bruiser Brigade.

The duo linked up just a few weeks earlier for last month’s three-song EP, One More Time with fellow New York rapper, Wiki.

Along with the fresh album release, also came another new music video for one of the tracks, “No Curse Lifted (rivers of love).”

Despite having an otherwise quiet year outside of the singles, the new album arrives just in time to further complicate your year-end lists.

He certainly doesn’t let his fans down, as the new album further cements him as one of underground rap’s best storytellers.

Finally, make sure to stream Beware of the Monkey on Spotify or Apple Music soon. Let us know your top three songs in the comments afterwards.

The Compton native’s HERE 2 STAY arrives correspondingly in celebration of his birthday, a press release notes. Throughout the various tracks, “Wallie’s heartfelt delivery and introspective lyricism” undoubtedly enchant his listeners.

Furthermore, “Life Is What You Make It” is quickly emerging as a fan favourite upon the project’s debut. The song finds him specifically reflecting on the pain of personal tragedy as his career continues to soar to new heights.

“Feel like I’m beefin’ with God ‘cause he done took all my friends,” the California-born singer croons. “And when it ain’t making sense just know you still got to strive, I know we dying to live,” Wallie continues.

The “Watch Me” hitmaker’s latest work follows his GOLDEN CHILD release, previously spearheaded by his “03 Flow” single. Finding success via radio support and co-signs from PnB Rock, it was a tribute to 03 Greedo.

NoCap Releases New Mixtape, “The Main Bird”

Even when industry business gets in the way, it’s always great to see an artist deliver to fans despite the hiccups. NoCap did just that and released The Main Bird, a seven-track mixtape. Moreover, it was originally going to contain 16 songs, but ran into sample clearance issues. While those get sorted out, the Alabama rapper’s dropped more introspective melodic cuts and a few bangers to even his style out. Also, the track comes just days after his melodic feature on Monaleo’s “Miss U Already.”

While the 24-year-old is known to often get into those tuneful styles, he balances it out with some heat. Moreover, he recruited Rob49 and Rylo Rodriguez for some guest verses on the album. Rob delivers some aggressive energy over the Wheezy-produced “How It’s Going.” Meanwhile, Rylo dials things back on “Tight End” with some auto-tuned croons. However, NoCap remains the star of the show, and he kept up fast momentum after this year’s Mr. Crawford with the single “DNA.”

Although NoCap’s continued to build that success, it’s also resulted in some cut ties. He beefed with NBA YoungBoy recently via Instagram shots after YoungBoy wrote he doesn’t mess with him anymore. Later, NoCap called YB a “hater.”

“Let me know what I owe you,” he wrote in a message to the Louisiana rapper. “I don’t recall you giving s**t. I took the blame for why we don’t do music because I was trying to keep your hater card clean. But nah we really don’t do music because he probably scared I’ll be bigger on some baby s**t.” If The Main Bird and KnowCap are any indication, it looks like he’ll continue to make his own mark.

What did you think of this mixtape? Are you looking forward to KnowCap? Let us know in the comments. If you still haven’t tuned in, you can find The Main Bird by NoCap on your preferred streaming service.
