Kevin Gates Drops Nearly Featureless Record “The Ceremony”

Kevin Gates is one of the more interesting characters in the rap game. He is unapologetically unfiltered in interviews and it usually leads to hilarious moments. Some are more questionable than others, though. However, he is also someone who cares a lot about being a role model for the younger generation. While “Thinking with My D***” might not be a glowing representation of him, Gates is a huminatarian at heart.

Which was why at the end of last year he received a prestigious award from the New Orleans mayor for his efforts. He addresses some of those topics on tracks like “Protect Children” off his brand-new album The Ceremony. However, the main themes are about the celebration of his career, hence the title. Interestingly this is only Gates’ fourth studio album out of the many projects he has dropped in his career.

Gates relentlessly teased this tape for months and even put together a listening party for it nearly a week ago. The rollout for the album began back in May of 2023 with “Do It Again.” After that point, Kevin would put out five more singles. Benny The Butcher’s “Everybody Can’t Go” Tracklist To Feature Lil Wayne, Snoop Dogg, & More: Report

Benny The Butcher’s tracklist for his highly-anticipated new album, Everybody Can’t Go, will feature plenty of top rappers, according to HipHopDX. The project will be his first full-length release under the Def Jam imprint. The Alchemist and Hit-Boy produced all twelve of the upcoming songs.

The outlet reports that the tracklist features collaborations with Lil Wayne, Snoop Dogg, Jadakiss, Babyface Ray, and more. On the track, “Griselda Express,” he reunites with Westside Gunn and Conway The Machine.

Benny has been promoting Everybody Can’t Go for almost a year now, having announced the project back in the spring of 2023. He explained the meaning of the title while appearing on the Rap Radar Podcast back in November. “Everybody can’t go because they not cut like that,” he said at the time. “They not made like that. And you can’t dance to every song, you know what I’m saying? […] Everything is not for everybody. With new levels come new devils, and I want more. I want bigger for myself. When you make that first cut — when you clearly see, ‘these people are not for me, they don’t need to be here’ — so the people who made that, who got past that cut, they think they’re safe. And what I mean by level up, you know, is my way of thinking. And of course, my way of making music.”

Kanye West Unleashes “Vultures” Trailer: Watch

Kanye West and Ty Dolla $ign had fans intrigued when they revealed that they would be dropping a collaborative album together. This news came out at the tail end of the summer. Overall, it was believed that the Fall would bring about a new album. However, the project never came. Vultures has a lead single and it even has some snippets that came out during various listening parties. That said, the project has not been dropped. There have been a ton of delays, and fans have been getting pretty restless about it.

Well, today, Kanye has been providing fans with a whole bunch of information. For instance, he revealed that the new project would be coming out on February 9th. Furthermore, there would be two more volumes coming out on March 8th and April 5th, respectively. It is a huge deal that Ye is giving out these release dates himself. Sure, he has a propensity to be a bit over-ambitious, but this is still a bit of good news for those who still care to even hear from him these days. He also dropped a trailer to the album, directed by Jon Rafman.

In this trailer, we actually get a preview for some music with none other than Lil Durk. Overall, the production appears to be dark, and the visuals are set to match that. It still remains to be seen whether or not Ye will end up being on time with this project. After all, he has been known for causing numerous delays over the course of his career. Regardless, there are fans out there who seem to be pretty excited about this new project. Only time will tell whether or not it can live up to the hype.

Tierra Whack Unveils Debut Album, “World Wide Whack,” Coming Soon

You won’t find many MCs in the modern era that are as vibrant, versatile, or viciously sought-after as Tierra Whack. Moreover, her creative blends of hip-hop, pop, R&B, and alternative, all under a cheeky, playful, but nonetheless impactful lens, have captivated fans in the mainstream and underground alike ever since her 2018 project Whack World. However, it’s been a long time since we heard anything from the Philly MC in a long-form capacity, particularly her Rap?, Pop?, and R&B? EPs from 2021. Along with some singles and loose freestyles, this fueled the fire for fans begging for more and more, and she finally took the step to invite fans into her world once more.

Furthermore, Tierra Whack just announced her debut album, World Wide Whack, set for a March 15 release via Interscope Records. “I really took my time with this, so I hope you all enjoy it as much as I do,” she wrote on her social media platforms along with the project’s cover art. Not only that, but the “Chanel Pit” multi-hyphenate (a track which might appear on this LP) also announced her lead single for the project, “Shower Song,” which will come out this Friday (January 26). She had previously previewed this song with a cheeky Internet clip of her in the bathtub with some hot dogs… that she proceeded to eat with some mustard. Tasty!

Tierra Whack Announces World Wide Whack & “Shower Song”

Of course, fans are incredibly excited to dive into World Wide Whack, and it’s great to see one of the best hip-hop artists working today diving into a new rollout. Hopefully this incorporates the genre blends in more progressive and meaty ways compared to the potential and strong songwriting displayed on previous singles and her 2021 EPs. We can’t really predict what Tierra Whack will do here, but that is exactly what makes this a very anticipated project for 2024’s first quarter. If anything, it will hopefully and likely be a critical darling that you can bet will get consideration on mid-year and even end-of-year lists.

Playboi Carti Continues Teasing, “I Am Music,” On IG

Playboi Carti continued to tease the release of his upcoming album, I Am Music, on Instagram, on Sunday. In doing so, he shared a similar graphic featuring the title that he’s posted on social media on numerous occasions in recent weeks. The promotion comes as Carti has released single after single throughout the rollout process.

In the last couple of months, Carti has dropped a number of songs, including “EvilJ0rdan,” “Backr00ms,” “2024,” and more. Speaking with Numéro Berlin in November, Carti confirmed that he had been recording the project while spending three months in Paris.

Amazing,” he told the outlet at the time. “I was recording, in a cave, for like three months, and all the music that came out of that is just chaotic and crazy. Then, I’m in a glass house, somewhere in the hills, and the music there is just very good to the ears. And then, I’m in Atlanta and the tensions are just high and the music is biting. The project will be Carti’s first full-length effort since the release of his 2020 album, Whole Lotta Red. That project debuted atop the US Billboard 200, earning 100,000 album-equivalent units. It featured Kid Cudi, Future, and Kanye West. Slum Village Unveils Another Single Ahead Of New Album, “Request”

It’s been quite some time since listeners have heard a new album from Slum Village, but luckily, they won’t have to wait much longer. Currently, the duo is gearing up to drop their upcoming full-length project, FUN. While fans are still waiting for an official release date, it’s safe to say they can’t wait. Slum Village kicked things off with the project’s first single “Just Like You” back in April of last year, teaming up with Larry June and the Dramatics.

Now, they’re back with another, tapping Earlly Mac and UK-based hip hop group Abstract Orchestra for “Request.” The bouncy, Young RJ-produced track features a groovy bassline and plenty of sharp bars. It marks the start of yet another new musical era for the pair, who’ve been at it for almost three decades since their unofficial debut, Fan-Tas-Tic Vol. 1.

Slum Village Drops Another Single Ahead Of Fun

Slum Village’s new single isn’t the only thing fans have to be excited about these days, however. To officially mark the end of their hiatus, the duo also announced their Since 92 tour. They’ll perform a handful of shows across Europe later this year, kicking things off in April with a performance in Bern, Switzerland. The tour is set to wrap up in Paris later that month. They currently have stops scheduled in London, Manchester, Birmingham, and more. Slum Village also has various performances scheduled in the U.S. in cities like Chicago and Los Angeles, as well as a stop at NYC’s iconic Blue Note in February in honor of J Dilla’s 50th birthday.

21 Savage “American Dream” First Week Sales Are Here

21 Savage is back like he never left on his new album american dream, at least when it comes to his newest solo effort’s first-week sales. Moreover, new reports online indicate that the project sold 131K album-equivalent units in its first week, landing it at the No. 1 spot on the Billboard 200 chart. As such, fans may notice that these are the exact same sales numbers that his previous solo studio LP, i am > i was, sold in its first week over five years ago. Perhaps listeners and the media will portray this as a disappointment, but it’s more indicative of 21’s consistency quality and exposure-wise since 2018.

Furthermore, it’s nonetheless great to see that this album connected with a lot of people, both casual fans and die-hards alike. If you’ve been on hip-hop Twitter at all for the past couple of years, you know that some listeners have strong 21 Savage fatigue. This is because of his prolific features, collaborative full-lengths, and a firm adherence to the style that he’s most known for. But the “née-nah” MC still proves on this album that he can evolve, and we’ll see whether any track from it becomes a particular hit.

On that last point, it feels like american dream is much more of an album experience, similar to i am > i was. At least that tracklist had the massive hit “a lot,” whereas this new album doesn’t have that stellar standout commercially and critically… yet. After all, cuts like “redrum” could easily gain more steam as the year draws on, as the current era’s focus on virality means that release dates don’t matter when determining the hottest tracks today. Either way, 21 Savage should be very proud of what he and his team accomplished here, and these numbers show the fruits of their labor.

Meanwhile, with the Slaughter Gang boss’ biopic on the horizon (if it wasn’t just a rollout facade), this is another factor that could extend american dream‘s shelf life. No matter what you think about these numbers, one thing is for sure. It’s great to have hip-hop succeeding and impressing early in 2024, and setting up that momentum for the rest of the year. Hus KingPin And 9th Wonder Combine Their Talents To Become “The Supergoat”

Two standouts in the underground scene have just come together for a brand-new collaborative tape. Brooklyn, New York rapper Hus KingPin, and Winston-Salem, North Carolina producer 9th Wonder present to us The Supergoat. For Hus, this is his tenth project in less than a year. 2023 was another massively productive year for the wordsmith.

From February 7 to December 15, Hus KingPin put in his head down and hustled to get out nine tapes. Two of them were joint efforts. Bolio EPetersen saw he and M.W.P. work alongside each other. Then, SmooVth, who is also featured on this new project, joined Hus on Paid In Full. For 9th Wonder, this follows-up his gargantuan 55-song instrumental endeavor, Bladey Mae (Grandma’s Blades), which was a Christmas Day release.

Kevin Gates threw a lavish black-tie gala as a listening party for his upcoming album The Ceremony. Footage released online showed a sweet moment between Gates and his wife Dreka. Gates appeared in high spirits as he prepared for the industry to hear his new album. Gates married Dreka in 2015. Last year, he shared an incredibly NSFW video of her giving birth to his Instagram page.

The Ceremony is Gates’ fourth studio album and first since 2022’s Khaza. That album peaked at No. 8 on the Billboard charts. Both of Gates’ previous albums before Khaza, peaked within the top five. Elsewhere, comments made by Kevin Gates and Finesse2Tymes during a recent livestream have led to people speculating about the sexuality of the two men. The speculation primarily stems from Gates asking Finessee if he would “put his feet in the air”. Finesse responds by saying that “if I thought something wrong with you, I would put your f-cking feet in the air”. Many people have taken this as reference to a sexual act. However, it’s more likely a threat of violence. Based on common street slang, to “put your feet in the air” is to kill someone. Finesse is more likely saying that he would not struggle to end Gates if the situation demanded it.

“He literally means “kill me” knocked off yo feet. Put my feet in the air. Yall WANT men to be gay and that’s the weirdest shit to me,” one person lamented. “Y’all so strange he basically say If he ever cross him out his feet in the air as in unalive him and hold him accountable for his actions,” added another. “Clearly he said can u send me to god if i break any codes that’s why he said hold me accountable,” agreed a third.

Latto Will Appear On Usher’s Upcoming New Album

Just as sports fans are gearing up to see the two best NFL teams play in the Super Bowl next month. But music fans are arguably just excited. The Super Bowl Halftime Show is one of the biggest stages any music artist can get and this year R&B legend Usher is due to take the stage. He’s already been dropping teasers for his upcoming performance. The “Yeah!” singer is promising big things after claiming in a recent interview that he wants it to be perfect.

But the performance isn’t the only reason for Usher fans to be excited. He’s also releasing his highly-anticipated 9th studio album the same night. His last official solo album Hard II Love dropped back in 2016. He followed it up with A a collaborative project with Zaytoven two years later. The project is already off to a strong start with “Good Good” featuring 21 Savage and Summer Walker. The single has been Usher’s biggest hit in years and is still hovering on the Hot 100 months after its release. Latto has a pretty busy 2023 highlighted by her song “Put It On Da Floor.” The song got off to a decent start out of the gate but because a huge hit once Cardi B joined in for a collaboration. Together they delivered “Put It On Da Floor Again” which shot up to the top 20 of the Hot 100. The song stuck around for much of the year as well landing in the Year End Hot 100.

She also made an appearance on one of the biggest hit pop songs of the year. Latto lent a guest verse to K-pop star Jung Kook’s single “Seven.” The track debuted at number one on the Hot 100 which made her the first rapper to appear on the top spot in 2023.
