Skrillex Collabs With Swae Lee, Chief Keef, Don Toliver, And More On “Don’t Get Too Close” Album

As if dropping one album isn’t a big enough feat for an artist, Skrillex proved that he’s coming back with a vengeance by sharing two full-length projects this weekend. On Friday (February 17), the DJ shared Quest For Fire, a 15-track effort boasting features from Missy Elliott, Porter Robinson, Dylan Brady, and more. Fans have certainly been loving it, but the next night, he surprised them with more music while performing at Madison Square Garden.

During his set at the venue, the 35-year-old unexpectedly dropped Don’t Get Too Close. The tracklist on this album is 12 titles long, and the roster of collaborators proves that Skrillex has an impressive range. PinkPantheress and Trippie Redd join him for “Way Back,” while BEAM comes through on our personal favourite, “Selecta.”

Other recording artists joining the California native on his second album of the week include Yung Lean, Bladee, Kid Cudi, and Bibi Bourelly. Fans of Chief Keef will be happy to know he also makes an appearance, showing out alongside Corbin on “Bad For Me.” Additionally, Justin Bieber, Don Toliver, and Swae Lee also did their part to help out Skrillex.

The producer has been on an impressive run as of late, surprising listeners with a pop-up on Valentine’s Day at Good Room before hosting a party later on at Le Poisson Rouge.

Nicki Minaj’s Next Album Gets Update From Epic Records’ VP Of A&R

Gather up, queens, because Nicki Minaj is back in the studio. Fly Ty, the Vice President of A&R, took to instagram to announce what has been cooking in the kitchen. He excitedly announced on his story, “just got off the phone with my sister,” followed by “this move is about to be so big for queens… we’re bringing it back to the drawing board.” The Barbie rapper dropped the compilation album Queen Radio: Volume 1 last year, featuring some of her most iconic songs over her career. “Beez In The Trap” and “Barbie Dreams” are included alongside older hits like “Super Bass” and “Starships.” Of course, the curated radio also features Minaj’s newest single, “Super Freaky Girl.”

While we are unsure of what to expect from the Trinidadian rapper, Fly seems to be alluding to a new project with Minaj. And although we have little details as to what this secret project may be, we do know that she’ll be releasing the heat as per usual. In her September 2022 interview with i-D, Minaj stated, “if I never rap again, I will still leave this Earth an icon.” She expanded, “I guess there is a little less fear now at this point in my career because I realize that my fans aren’t going anywhere. I’ve paid my dues.” Minaj has left her Barbiez in anticipation of her next grand release.

Minaj To Release A New Project Soon

Minaj’s last studio album, Queen, dropped in 2018 and was met with primarily positive reviews. Kathy Iandoli wrote for Billboard, “Queen exists to exemplify Nicki’s proven longevity, which is enough of a rarity to finally declare her as well-deserved rap royalty.” This reflection of Minaj’s impactful career as a female rapper continues to validate her ability to turn this upcoming project into gold.

Queen, which was Minaj’s fourth studio album, released 4 years after her previous drop of The Pinkprint. Now, almost 5 years after the 2018 album, Nicki is overdue for her next project. The 40-year-old rapper told i-D “I feel like whenever I’m happy, I deliver the best music. And in order for me to deliver the best music for my album – which is coming out soon – I have to tap back into the essence of hip-hop.” Stay tuned on HNHH for all of the latest updates on Nicki Minaj’s upcoming album.

The trap star comes from Dallas, Texas, and is making his voice heard with his new AMAR project.

Lance Skiiiwalker’s “Audiodidactic” Album Lands With Ab-Soul & Isaiah Rashad Features

Top Dawg Entertainment’s artists are a force to be reckoned with this New Music Friday. Previously we highlighted Zacari’s new “Motions” single in tandem with Ab-Soul. Now, we have another appearance from each of those artists on Lance Skiiiwalker’s latest project. Audiodidactic landed on DSPs at midnight, complete with 11 tracks as well as an additional guest appearance from V.C.R.

Ahead of his album’s debut, the artist dropped off “Beantown” as a single in late January. “I experienced Boston once while I was on tour, it felt like a really cool city,” he explained of that release. “Thinking about it more, I realized it was missing a love song. I haven’t heard anything about Boston in that world. The record is more about the vibes I felt there than a particular person, the girl is a metaphor.”

Image provided to HNHH by artist

While he carries most of the titles on his own, Skiiiwalker did recruit Ab-Soul to help him on “Church.” A few songs later, on “Sample Talk,” we once again hear from another TDE star, Isaiah Rashad. As mentioned earlier, V.C.R also helped his friend, specifically showing out on the eighth title, “It Was All.”

Audiodidactic marks the Chicago native’s first full-length effort since he dropped Introverted Intuition in 2016. More recently, he delivered a pair of EPs in 2021 to hold fans over until today’s album was ready. Along with that, Skiiwalker shared an accompanying visual for “Where To With You.”

Before his inevitable rise to fame, the “Lover’s Lane” artist was discovered by former TDE labelmate Kendrick Lamar. He’s previously been described as the collective’s “secret weapon” by Moosa, their president. Aside from his own releases, Lance has worked alongside names like ScHoolboy Q, Jay Rock, and Ab-Soul on their own tapes.

Stream Lance Skiiiwalker’s Audiodidactic album on Spotify or Apple Music below. Afterward, tell us your top three favourite titles in the comments, and check back later for more hip-hop release updates.

NBA YoungBoy’s Label Teases New Album “AI YoungBoy 3” On The Way

NBA YoungBoy’s label, Never Broke Again, recently teased his next album, AI YoungBoy 3 via Instagram. Moreover, they included a video of YB and his friends throwing a knife at a cardboard box. While it’s barely been a month since his last project, the Louisiana hitmaker is nothing if not prolific. In fact, there might even be multiple projects on the way. Another phrase tossed around with AI YoungBoy 3 is “Don’t try this at home,” which the label captioned their Story post with. “‘Don’t try this at home’ then AI Youngboy 3 album on the way,” the post read.

NEW ORLEANS, LA – AUGUST 25: NBA YoungBoy performs during Lil WeezyAna at Champions Square on August 25, 2018 in New Orleans, Louisiana. (Photo by Erika Goldring/Getty Images)

Furthermore, that phrase could refer to either YB’s knife-throwing skills or a recent interaction with Joe Budden. The MC and media commentator said he doesn’t believe Youngboy’s recent statements about retiring his violent lyricism and lifestyle. “I don’t believe one f***in’ word of any of that s**t,” he remarked. “I laughed every time that s**t popped up on my phone. Get the f**k outta here,” going on to call the Top rapper’s words a marketing play. After Joe’s comments, Never Broke Again’s Instagram page posted a cryptic picture of Youngboy, potentially the cover art. “Tell @joebudden ‘Don’t try this at home’ who ready?” the caption read.

Meanwhile, the 23-year-old spoke on his changing perspective on violence during a rare Billboard interview. “I think about how many lives I actually am responsible for when it comes to my music,” he expresseded at the time. “How many girls I got feeling like if you don’t go about a situation that your boyfriend’s bringing on you in his way, you’re wrong? How many people have put this s**t in their ears and actually went and hurt someone? Or how many kids felt like they needed to tote a gun and walked out the house and toted it the wrong way? Now he’s fixing to sit there and do years of his life that he can’t get back.”

Also, YB addressed a variety of topics and life changes in his interview. For example, he spoke on considering a Mormon baptism after spending time with them under house arrest in Utah. With a new album seemingly on the way, it’ll be exciting to see how his artistry changes. However, what’s most important is that YB lives the life he wants, especially if it means making a positive impact. Regardless, come back to HNHH for the latest on YoungBoy Never Broke Again and his next release.

Logic Unveils Tracklist For Upcoming Album “College Park”

The start to 2023 has been eventful for Logic. In the first few days of the year he made a big splash with two major headlines. On Jan. 1, his wife Brittney Hall announced that they were expecting a second child. Two days later (Jan. 3) on a video call, he confirmed that he had recorded an entire album over J Dilla beats. However, he followed that up by saying he decided against releasing it, and would instead rather Boldy James release his upcoming project Drug Dilla, which sees him rap over mostly Dilla beats.

On Jan. 9, Logic then announced a brand new studio album titled College Park. He accompanied this announcement with a neat anime inspired trailer. Logic would later confirm the release date of the album for February 24. A few days removed from the College Park trailer, the Maryland rapper put out its first promotional single titled “Wake Up” on Jan. 13. The track features Lucy Rose, who Logic collaborated with three times prior on “Intermission,” “Anxiety” and Thank You.” In the following weeks, he would drop his second and third singles “Highlife” (Jan. 30), which came with a music video, and “Paradise II” (Feb. 6).

Logic Joined By Big Names

It seemed like all there was left to do for College Park was finalize the official trackless. Logic did just that on Thursday (Feb. 9). The album will contain 17 tracks and include a whopping 15 feature guests, with two of them having multiple appearances throughout. Eye-opening names like RZA, Joey Bada$$, Family Guy creator Seth MacFarlane, Statik Selektah and Redman are the most notable of the bunch. Additionally, longtime collaborators like the aforementioned Lucy Rose and Big Lenbo will also be featured.

Along with College Park, Logic recently announced that he would be executively producing Juicy J’s next album. While the details are still scarce regarding the project, Logic and Juicy have built quite a friendship. In the last few years, they have worked on songs together like “1995,” “Ink Blot” and “Twisted.” Also, Logic’s voiced is used in Juicy’s producer tag. Logic has a lot on his slate coming up, but surely the most important will be College Park. Just a couple more weeks away from its release, it appears that some of hip-hop’s stars will be joining along for the 33-year-old’s eighth studio album.

Future Congratulates LeBron James

Future is looking to follow up a huge 2022 with an even bigger 2023. On Jan. 27, the Atlanta icon wrapped up his six-date U.S. “One Big Party Tour.” Throughout January, he and special guests like 21 Savage, Lil Durk and DaBaby hit major cities Houston, Atlanta, Chicago and more. Overall, this was a victory lap for Future, who charted on the Billboard Hot 100 all 52 weeks of 2022.

With all this success, it would be hard to imagine life could get any sweeter for the 39-year-old. However, the 65th annual Grammy ceremony this past Sunday did just that for him. Being nominated for three different awards, and twice in two categories, Future won Best Melodic Rap Performance for “Wait For U” with Drake. Now that he’s subsequently no longer on the road and has added to his trophy case, Pluto is ready for more.

Future Tweets

On Tuesday night (Feb. 8), Future took to Twitter to reveal to his fans that he is now “in album mode.” This tweet came directly after he proclaimed that he would be “moving different all 2023.” Moreover, the announcement came just before Future congratulated LeBron James for becoming the NBA’s all-time leading scorer. The album’s title, release date, feature list, and cover art are currently unspecified. Perhaps he may use a more rigorous process for picking the album’s title, in hopes of avoiding a lawsuit. In early January, he had to settle a suit with High Off Life, LLC, who claimed he stole their company’s name. His 2020 album of the same name was still a smash hit despite the drama, however.

With this recent news, fans can at least be assured that the process of crafting Future’s next LP has begun. An album release from Future this year would be quite a quick turnaround. This is because he dropped his critically acclaimed I NEVER LIKED YOU project just last April. The tape saw him connect with beloved collaborators like Drake, Kanye West, Gunna, Young Thug, Lil Durk and more. INLY was celebrated as one of the best LPs hip-hop had to offer all year. It will be interesting to see which direction Future will take his artistry with this next album, as it will be his 10th official studio release.

Coldxman Makes His Mark With Debut Album, “Amor Fati”

New York resident Coldxman just burst onto the scene with his debut album, Amor fati, which translates to “love of fate.” However, this project’s characteristics, vision, and displays of skill seem much more refined that many first releases out there. Of course, that’s due to Coldxman, real name Coleman Hughes, being an accomplished musician and writer before his independent rap debut. Moreover, he’s a talented trombone player and jazz soloist who’s played worldwide with the likes of the Mingus Big Band and Rihanna. Also, he played since he was 3, grew up as a passionate listener and musician, and went to Juilliard on a full scholarship to study jazz.

Moreover, Amor fati roots itself in classic boom-bap rhythms and East Coast flows, which come through clearly and vividly. For example, he’s able to switch between confidence and doubt, anger and tenderness, melodic choruses to rapid-fire verses. Also, given his accomplished background, these songs sit on a foundation of beautiful and crisp instrumentation. Whether it’s sharp drum patters, woozy guitars, colorful brass, or resonant keys, there’s a world to discover in each beat. Some of the album’s best tracks are “What Doesn’t Kill U,” “25,” and “Blasphemy.” While it’s clearly rooted in current sounds and genre styles, what brings everything together is Hughes’s perspective. Even with the quality of the beats and genre fusions, they’re crucially supported by his message.

Throughout this album, the young MC tackles systemic racism, cultural narratives that shift people against each other, and navigating it in a difficult landscape. Overall, it’s a compelling and vivid picture of a creative and thoughtful mind that’s surely got more in store. Still, what did you think of Coldxman’s debut album, Amor fati? However y, let us know in the comments and check out the project’s tracklist down below. Also, if you haven’t heard the project yet, you can find it in your preferred streaming service. Trippie Redd Teases Next Album, “Love Letter”

Trippie Redd has teased that his next album will be titled Love Letter. The 23-year-old rapper detailed his progress on the project during a new interview with Rolling Stone. News of the album comes just one month after the release of Trippie’s latest work, Mansion Musik.

“I’m trying to come up with the cover art and add a few songs for that record,” Trippie told the outlet. “So, I wanted to do this new one to do a Lil Wayne, Sorry 4 The Wait, type of deal.”

Trippie worked with Chief Keef on the previous effort, which boasts a 25-song tracklist. “I’m a big fan of Sosa. I reached out to people to be on the album that are Sosa-inspired. He invented the style of beats on this album,” Trippe said, before adding, “A lot of people don’t give him credit where it’s due.” The album features guest appearances from Future, Lil Baby, the late Juice Wrld, Travis Scott, Lil Durk, and many more, as well as Chief Keef.

Earlier in the interview, Trippie reflected on the era of rap he as well as Playboi Carti and Lil Uzi Vert came up in. He described it as one of the “best eras” of all time. Trippie released his debut mixtape, A Love Letter to You, back in 2017. The project peaked at number 64 on the Billboard 200. He later followed it up with several sequels over the years.

“The time and space we were in, at that era, was one of the best eras in music,” Trippie said. “Everyone was more open and trying to be pure. There was an open space to be creative in the music industry. Now, people are more like business partners.” He further compared it to the current era: “Now, people are more like business partners.”

Trippie Redd has yet to reveal any further details regarding Love Letter, but be on the lookout for more information in the coming months. Additionally, Revisit his latest effort, Mansion Musik, below.

Marsha Ambrosius Says She & Dr. Dre Trauma Bonded With New Album, “Casablanco”

Marsha Ambrosius says that she and Dr. Dre trauma bonded with her new album, Casablanco. Ambrosius discussed working with the legendary producer on the project at a listening session in Los Angeles, earlier this week.

“End of 2020, Dre and myself were going back and forth, shooting each other ideas,” the singer began. “And January 2021 happens and I’m pretty sure everyone got the text alert. Sorry to bring up your personal but we all saw it. It was Dr. Dre’s brain aneurysm and I remember my heart stopped and I’m calling everyone.”

She continued: “I’m like, ‘Yo fool, what happened?’ [They’re like] ‘Everything is okay. Relax, calm down. Dre is okay.’ I get a call from Dre and by February 2021, I was out working with him. So his rehab, his rehabilitation and resurgence back into wanting to make music to make people feel good was what I needed. Ultimately, what he needed. And this album was kind of our trauma bond in some way.”

Dr. Dre, who was also at the event, further explained that the album was born out of studio sessions originally meant for his own work. The pair first announced the project on social media back in December 2021.

“And the way it started out was she actually flew down to work on some songs for me,” Dre said. “And all of a sudden I’m like okay let’s work on some songs for you. Let’s work on three or four songs and all of a sudden that turned into an entire album over a two-week period.”

Marsha Ambrosius and Dr. Dre have yet to confirm an official release date for Casablanco. The two previously teamed up together for Dre’s 2015 album, Compton. Ambrosius is credited on the songs “Genocide,” “All in a Day’s Work,” “Darkside/Gone” and “Satisfaction.” They also worked on “Stronger” off of Ambrosius’ 2014 album, Friends & Lovers. Check out Dr. Dre’s initial announcement for Casablanco below.
