Nelly won’t have to face drug charges for his summer arrest at a casino in St. Louis. According to ABC News, the St. Louis County Prosecuting Attorney Wesley Bell shut down the case.

“We don’t belive the facts in this case warrant the issuing of charges,” Bell said.

The attorney’s office did not provide additional details into the decision to not file charges, but Nelly’s attorney Scott Rosenblum confirmed “a fair and imaprtial review of the evidence.”

Nellly was arrested on Aug. 7, 2024 in Maryland Heights, near St. Louis, according to a spokesperson for the Missouri State Highway Patrol.

The arrest reportedly went down around 4:45 a.m. so demon time as the kids say, just as Nelly was leaving the Hollywood Casino near St. Louis. Interesting. What do ya’ll think he plays if anything? Roulette? Blackjack or maybe Texas Hold’em … We gotta get the drop on that. Maybe he was just grabbing a bite to eat.

Get this, he was initially stopped by the Missouri Gaming Commission for an ID verification. A ha. So one of the most recognizable people in the entire state of Missouri was stopped to verify his ID? Huh?

During the stop, authorities miraculously discovered that Nelly had an outstanding warrant for failure to obtain car insurance, leading to his arrest. Wow. Seriously?

Here’s where it took a turn. Missouri State Highway officers conducted a search of Nelly’s vehicle and found ecstasy pills. If accurate, yikes.

So what’s the result? Nelly was also charged with drug possession. Then the “Country Grammar” rapper was taken to the Maryland Heights Police Department but was later released.

Talk about bad timing, ICYMI, Nelly is expecting a child with Ashanti. The fan favorite couple, been in an on-and-off relationship for years, but recently rekindled their romance and are preparing to welcome their first child together. Well hopefully they all figure this latest situation out.

Ashanti Calls Nelly Her “Soulmate” While Gushing Uncontrollably Over Their Relationship

In the world of celebrity couples, there’s almost always some sort of skepticism. When two high-profile people try to make it work romantically, the chances of a lasting and loving relationship are fairly rare. Usually, the two go their separate ways and sometimes things can get really messy. Luckily for musical superstars Ashanti and Nelly, things have always come across as chill and respectful even when they separated. Overall, their situation is pretty unique. They originally met just over two decades ago, split in the mid-2010’s and got back together in the 2020’s. Now, they married as of last December and how have a child together.

Given how they have circled back to each other, you could say that it’s a fairytale ending. From afar, fans have been obsessed with how much they truly seem to love one another. Anytime they share something regarding their child, a date night, or a special occasion, they flock to show their support. Because of how many people cheer them on, it was no surprise when an interviewer on ET asked them about their connection.

Ashanti spoke first and she couldn’t stop fawning over how much Nelly has meant to her. She describes both of them as “strong headed” and “strong-willed” adults, later adding, “So when two leaders come together…” That’s when the interviewer interjected and said “I call that a power couple.” Ashanti wholeheartedly agreed and went on to confidently say that she has her “soulmate” in Nelly. The rapper was absolutely touched by her words and had nothing but positive and glowing things to say about her wife and mother.

What are your thoughts on Ashanti and Nelly fawning over one another? Are they the power couple in music right now? We would like to hear what you have to say, so leave your thoughts in the comments. Nelly's Rape Case is Still Under Investigation Although Accuser Refuses to Testify

Cornell Haynes Jr., aka Nelly, was born on this date in 1974. Today, the Country Grammar rapper turns 50.

Nelly has put out timeless hits such as “Country Grammar” and “Ride Wit Me,” which became radio darlings, cementing his rightful place on the charts. Not to mention, the STL native’s technical influence is also massively underrated. He is one of the first artists to bring the sing-rapping technique into the mainstream (yes, Bone Thugs did too), which helped influence newer artists after him. It’s possible that 808s-era Kanye West and peak-T-Pain would sound different without Nelly doing the singing sound before them. Drake, Ty Dolla $ign, Kid Cudi share these same attributes as they all come from the sound the “Hot In Herre” rapper helped establish.

Nelly managed to help establish a sound and had a massive cross-over appeal. The fact that he collaborated with peak-NSYNC made him a household name. Sooner than later, kids would sport cartoon band-aids on cheeks right below the eye, imitating the St. Louis legend. When it came to fashion, he was THE guy. Apple Bottoms became a popular brand in the early 2000s, started by the rapper, and later expanded to include women’s and girls’ clothing, perfume, and accessories. The brand was also name-dropped in several popular songs, some of which included: Twista’s “Overnight Celebrity,” MC Jin’s “36-24-36,”, T-Pain’s hook on Flo-Rida’s “Low,” DaCav5’s “Tetris,” and Eminem’s “Shake That.”

The man-made us want gold grills and convinced us through representation that country music was cool. Outside of Bone Thugs-n-Harmony, the Midwest was not making sounds in mainstream rap. Although Kanye West arrived on the scene four years later, Nelly first helped bring light to an area full of potential. Artists like Chingy benefited greatly from Nelly’s success. Chingy opened up shows for Nelly at the beginning of his career, eventually putting him in front of Ludacris to sign up for DTP. St. Lunatic’s own, Murphy Lee, was also the only member of the group to earn a Gold album and single due to Nelly’s popularity.

His popularity is key to his success. With a classic album under his belt in Country Grammar, the project was certified DiamondNellyville went 6x multi-Platinum worldwide, the Sweat and Suit albums went Platinum and 3x multi-Platinum, respectively, and the Sweatsuit compilation went Gold.

On July 18 of this year, newlyweds Nelly and his wife Ashanti welcomed their first child, Kareem Kencaide.

Several St. Lunatics Want Their Names Removed From A Lawsuit Against Nelly, Saying Their Attorney Went Rogue

Just when it seemed the legal drama between Nelly and St. Lunatics couldn’t get any weirder, a new twist has entered the case. According to Billboard, three of the four members of the group listed as plaintiffs in a lawsuit filed against Nelly for back pay have demanded to have their names taken off the suit, which they say was filed against their wishes.

The lawsuit, filed in September by Ali, City Spud, Kyjuan, and Murphy Lee, alleged that Nelly never properly credited his bandmates on hit songs such as “Country Grammar,” “Steal the Show,” “Thicky Thick Girl,” and “Wrap Sumden.” According to the suit, they were entitled to royalties from those songs they never received; they supposedly waited over 20 years to file suit due to their longstanding friend with Nelly.

On Sunday, October 6, however, friction within the group was thrown into doubt when Kyjuan, Lee, and Spud joined Nelly onstage at the American Music Awards 50th Anniversary Special to perform the group’s standout songs like “Air Force Ones” and Lee’s “What Da Hook Gon Be.” Nelly even joked about it on Instagram, writing, “STL INVADES @amas …!!! An anyone who has a problem with that ‘Sue’ me…!!!”

Per Billboard, Nelly’s attorney N. Scott Rosenblum, wrote back to the lawyer who initially filed the suit, Gail M. Walton, to inform her that the three members of St. Lunatics “informed me that they did not authorize you to include them as plaintiffs… They are hereby demanding you remove their names forthwith.” Complying would leave Ali as the sole remaining plaintiff.

It’s probably just a coincidence that the suit was filed after Nelly sold half of his publishing for $50 million last July. We’re sure that has absolutely nothing to do with it.

Nelly Jokes About His Performance With St. Lunatics Despite The Fact That The Group Is Currently Suing Him

A few days ago, it was revealed that Nelly would be joining the performance lineup of the American Music Awards 50th Anniversary Special, and that he would be performing alongside Chingy, J-Kwon, and members of the St. Lunatics. Of course, those keeping up with recent Nelly news likely saw something strange there: Nelly and St. Lunatics would be performing together despite the fact that last month, it was revealed the group is suing Nelly.

Ahead of the performance, Nelly had a sense of humor about the situation, writing in an Instagram post, “STL INVADES @amas …!!! An anyone who has a problem with that ‘Sue’ me…!!! [shrugging emoji] [laughing emoji].”

Well, the show was last night, and indeed, the performance went on as planned, featuring a medley of hits that included “Air Force Ones,” “Ride Wit Me,” “Welcome To Atlanta,” “What Da Hook Gon Be,” “Right Thurr,” “Tipsy,” and “Hot In Herre.”

As for the lawsuit, St. Lunatics is suing Nelly over songwriting credits and royalties from his debut album, Country Grammar. The group (Ali, City Spud, Kyjuan, and Murphy Lee) claims they weren’t given proper credit on the album, meaning they haven’t been properly paid for the songs they say they helped co-write, including the album’s big hit, “Country Grammar.”

Nelly Is Being Sued By His Former Group, St. Lunatics, Over Unpaid Royalties From ‘Country Grammar’

Millennials are having it rough lately; in addition to dismal employment, housing, and romantic prospects all around, our nostalgic memories of our childhoods — all we have to hold onto, really — have been upended a whole bunch in recent months.

The latest upheaval: Nelly is being sued by members of his former group, St. Lunatics, over songwriting credits and royalties from his hit debut album, Country Grammar. Released in 2000 to widespread acclaim and truly breathtaking commercial success — it spent five weeks at No. 1 on the Billboard 200 — Country Grammar spawned three top-40 hits: “E.I.,” “Ride Wit Me,” and the title track. It also launched the St. Lunatics’ empire, which consisted of sneakers, energy drinks, clothing lines, and even an appearance in NBA Street Vol. 2 as playable characters.

Unfortunately, according to Ali, City Spud, Kyjuan, and Murphy Lee, Nelly did not give them fair credit on the album, keeping them from being properly paid for a number of its tracks which they say they helped co-write (the group’s sixth member, Slo Down, is not included as a plaintiff). Although various members are listed as co-writers throughout the album, they say they weren’t credited on “Country Grammar,” “Steal the Show,” “Thicky Thick Girl,” and “Wrap Sumden.”

Nelly has previously acknowledged that his friends wrote on those songs (it’s no secret that he was never the strongest lyricist in the group, and that they rallied behind him specifically to get their foot in the door as a collective). However, the lawsuit says, “Despite repeatedly promising plaintiffs that they would receive full recognition and credit… it eventually became clear that defendant Haynes had no intention of providing the plaintiffs with any such credit or recognition.”

According to Billboard, though, the case could be complicated by the St. Lunatics claiming ownership rather than infringement, as “copyright infringement lawsuits can be filed decades after an infringing song is released, disputes over copyright ownership face a stricter three-year statute of limitations.”

As for why it took the group so long to pursue legal action, they explain, “Unfortunately, plaintiffs, reasonably believing that their friend and former band member would never steal credit for writing the original compositions, did not initially pursue any legal remedies.” After retaining legal counsel and reaching out to Universal Music Publishing Group, they were referred to Nelly’s attorneys, who they say “expressly repudiated” their claims in 2021.

Nelly, of course, sold half of his catalog in 2023 for $50 million. He’s not just facing civil issues at the moment, either; he was arrested in August for possession of ecstasy.

Ashanti And Nelly Are Officially Parents As They Welcomed Their First Child Together

Ever since Ashanti and Nelly reportedly rekindled their romance last spring, fans haven’t been able to get enough of the cute couple, which rumors of a pregnancy swirling just eight months later — which Ashanti eventually confirmed. And hey, wouldn’t you know it, nine months after that, here we are: Ashanti has announced the birth of the couple’s first child together, Kareem Kenkaide Hayes, on Instagram. That makes Ashanti’s first and Nelly’s sixth.

In the post, Ashanti wrote: “Funny how life’s plans aren’t…always on time.. lol. I’ve been waiting to be a mom for a long time now but nothing could prepare me for EVERYTHING motherhood brings! This is what postpartum looks like… I’m so proud of my body for giving me my baby, baby, baby, baby, baby.” People also got a statement from a rep, which read, “Ashanti and Nelly welcomed their baby boy, Kareem Kenkaide Hayes, on July 18, 2024. The proud and happy parents are so in love with KK!” That means baby Kareem is a month old, but it makes sense that the couple would take time to adjust to parenthood before making an official announcement.

The whirlwind romance not only brought a new baby, but also marriage; in June, it was reported that the couple had privately gotten married, although they hadn’t had an official ceremony yet.

Nelly’s “Hot In Herre” Used To Diss Donald Trump During DNC: Watch

The Democratic National Convention had jokes. There were lots of puns and subtle jabs, and not so subtle jabs. All of them were at the expense of Donald Trump. Steve Kerr utilized Steph Curry’s iconic “Night Night” gesture to inform Trump that his campaign was over. A less expected diss, however, came from United Automobile Workers President Shawn Fain. Fain stepped to the stage before removing his jacket and quoting the iconic Nelly single “Hot In Herre.” He not only dropped the title of the song, but referred to the St. Louis rapper as an “American poet.”

Shawn Fain has been a long time supporter of Kamala Harris. His opposition to Donald Trump is not a surprise by any means. What was surprising was the way Fain chose to showcase his disdain. Rather than state the obvious, the UAW President decided to go the comedic route. He removed his jacket to reveal a graphic t-shirt with the text: “Trump is a scab.” The Nelly reference came about as an excuse to remove the jacket. “In the words of the great American poet Nelly,” Fain stated. “It’s getting hot in here.” The shirt (and the quote) drew raucous applause from the DNC audience.

Nelly Criticized Donald Trump’s Presidential Run In 2017

Nelly has actually given his own thoughts on Donald Trump in the past. He famously name dropped the President on his 2000 single “Rid Wit Me,” and told Page Six that he didn’t mind Trump as a celebrity. It was when Trump went into politics that the rapper had a problem. “He doesn’t surprise me as a person,” Nelly told the outlet. “He surprises me as a president because you don’t expect certain things, certain attitudes.” Nelly also lamented the fact that Trump’s politics made it undesirable for him to stay at the Trump Tower. “I’m more or less mad at him because I can’t stay at his hotels now,” the rapper quipped. “I’ve been staying there for 15 years, and now you pull this?”

Nelly has had his own problems as of late. The rapper was arrested for an outstanding traffic warrant on August 8. There were reports that he was going to be charged with possession, due to the fact that four ecstasy pills were found on his person, but he was subsequently released. Nelly bounced back and was welcomed onstage at an MGK concert a few days later. Nelly performed “Air Force Ones” and MGK took time to praise the rapper for his impact on the culture. Not a bad welcome back after a jail stint.
