J Cole Makes Surprise Appearance At Bas Show After Big Three Apology

J Cole surprised the hip-hop world on Tuesday night. The Fayetteville rapper popped up at a Bas concert in Irving Plaza to perform their joint single “Lit” alongside KQuick. It was a thrilling moment for the crowd, as Bas neglected to mention that Cole would be in attendance. He shout-outed his Dreamville boss, only to have him appear mid-song and rap his verse to screaming fans. It was also a nice moment of respite for Cole after the controversial statement he made at Dreamville Fest.

The “No Role Modelz” rapper has spent the last several weeks embroiled in a feud with Kendrick Lamar for hip-hop supremacy. Kendrick dissed him on the Future and Metro Boomin hit “Like That”, and Cole responded a few weeks later with “7 Minute Drill.” The reception to the latter track was mixed, with many feeling that Cole’s heart wasn’t into the feud. They were right. The rapper took the stage at his own fest over the weekend and issued an apology to Lamar. He dismissed “7 Minute Drill” as “lame” and vowed to take it off streaming platforms (which he has not done yet). The public fallout has been swift.

Bas & J. Cole Performed Their 2014 Song “Lit”

Cole’s apology has been called “soft” by fans. Many have lobbied to have the rapper removed from the “Big 3” conversation he started around himself, Lamar, and Drake. Fortunately, Cole has had the support of his Dreamville roster during this difficult time. Ari Lennox and Omen praised the rapper for prioritizing his mental health over diss records, and vowed to stick by him. Bas hasn’t commented directly, but he did send a tweet that many have interpreted to be about the Cole situation.

Bas posted a screenshot of a text message that emphasizes the importance of loyalty. “I’ve been told yall n****s we the only family we got,” the rapper wrote. “But n****s always want to let the kids from across the street swim in our pool until they take a s**t in it…” Bas signed to Dreamville in 2013, making him the third-longest tenured behind Cole and the aforementioned Omen. The audience at the Bas show clearly enjoyed seeing J. Cole in action, which is a positive sign for both the label and the rapper’s future as a whole.

Latto’s Top 3 Female Rappers List Has Hip-Hop Heads Asking Questions

Latto’s love for rap dates back to when the world still knew her as Alyssa Stephens, and her skills as a lyricist and performer have only grown since then. Now that she’s a dominant force thanks to her 777 LP, and has collaborations with Jennifer Lopez, Mariah Carey, and Lil Wayne, it’s nice to see that the blonde beauty has done her homework. In a recent interview, Latto spoke about her top three femcees, though her answer has left more than a few people confused.

“Who are your top three females of all time in hip-hop?” the journalist conducting asked her guest from off camera. “Dead or alive?” Latto clarified, suggesting some of her biggest inspirations might no longer be with us. “[Lil’] Kim, gotta say Kim,” the “Wheelie” artist began. “Wait, my favourite? Or like, the best?” Stephens paused again before sharing her final two picks. “Imma say [Lisa] “Left Eye” [Lopes], rest in peace. Anddd, shawty,” Latto added at the end, leading many to assume she meant Nicki Minaj.

Latto’s Top Female MCs Include Left Eye and Lil’ Kim

Based on their past drama, it’s easy to understand why the reality starlet would be reluctant to mention the Queen of Rap by name. Still, with the success of her ongoing Pink Friday 2 Tour, it’s hard not to give Minaj props for all she’s accomplishing. Elsewhere, some are questioning what qualifies Left Eye as “the best,” but seeing as Latto performed with TLC in place of the late MC at the iHeartRadio Awards recently, we get why the tribute felt important to her.

Outside of rap, Latto has been boo’d up with a mystery beau (rumoured to be 21 Savage) for some time now but refuses to share her relationship with the public. No matter what the status of her relationship is, there are still plenty of other people who want a shot at the “Big Energy” hitmaker, including Shaboozey. Read what he had to say about Latto at the link below, and check back later for more hip-hop/pop culture news updates.

YBN Nahmir Allegedly Had His Chain Snatched While Out In Compton

YBN Nahmir is an artist who has gone through a lot over the last few years. Overall, this is due to some misses in his discography, as well as a general disinterest in the style of rap that was popular the year he came out. Regardless, Nahmir has tried to continue pushing, despite all of the setbacks. Unfortunately, it seems as though things have gone from bad to worse for the artist. At least that is what one man is saying on social media right now.

In the post below from Rap Updates TV, you will find an Instagram story from an account called @jointkofflaurel. The story depicts an old video of YBN Nahmir talking about an iced-out YBN chain he had acquired. Furthermore, he explains how the chain was extremely difficult to come by. The next slide subsequently shows a man who claims to be from Compton, holding a chain that looks a lot like Nahmir’s. He then brags that the chain is actually a whole lot easier to come by, insinuating that he snatched it from the rapper.

Interestingly enough, according to HipHopDX, there are numerous fans who aren’t so sure that this is chain belongs to Nahmir. “ngl the chain they was holding didn’t look like the one nahmir was holding up sumn not adding up maybe im tweakin,” one person explained. Others simply roasted the man for trying to flex about a crime on Instagram, when authorities are likely watching. At the time of writing this, Nahmir has not commented on whether or not the man is telling the truth.

Young Thug Trial: State Witness Becomes Uncooperative During Questioning

The newest developments in the Young Thug trial over the past few weeks have further deteriorated the reputation of the trial online. During a run of stories in March one witness claimed that he was being threatened and just a few days later another claimed he was so high on the stand he might fall asleep. The defense calculated that with the extensive list of witnesses presented by the prosecution, the trial could last until 2027. The judge responded this week by dropping some people from the witness list including Lil Wayne.

Now there’s yet another issue with a state witness. Yesterday, D’Angelo White was called to the stand in order to give some context to Thug’s origins. But once they began asking questions that directly related to Thug, White became uncooperative. He repeatedly had to ask what the questions had to do with him before eventually shutting down completely. After that almost any questions he was asked he responded with “I shouldn’t be here.” Check out the full day of court proceedings below.

Witness In The Young Thug Trial Stops Answering Questions

The witness issues in the case haven’t slowed down in recent weeks. Earlier this month a female witness alleged that a Fulton County investigator sexually harassed her. Just a few days later a different investigator from the trial was caught sharing inappropriate text messages with one of the witnesses in the trial. Thug’s defense called the move an attempt to score favoritism in their testimony.

Last week, Young Thug appeared on a highly-anticipated new song. Lil Wayne dropped the track “Bless,” the lead single from his upcoming album. The song has already racked up more than a million streams on Spotify in less than a week since it dropped. What do you think of even more issues spawning from a state witness in the Young Thug RICO trial? Do you think the witness list needs to be cut down so the trial doesn’t last as long? Let us know in the comment section below.

When Will Drake Respond To Kendrick Lamar’s ‘Like That?’

Fans have been waiting for a response from Drake since Kendrick Lamar went scorched earth on his verse from Future’s Metro Boomin-produced song “Like That.” After K. Dot declared, “Motherf*ck the Big Three / It’s just big me,” plenty of hip-hop heads have looked forward to seeing how Drake approaches any potentional reply — especially since the last time he was in a full-tilt rap battle, things didn’t exactly go his way.

Increasing the anticipation was the fact that J. Cole beat Drake to the counterpunch, dropping his own response track, “7 Minute Drill,” last Friday. Unfortunately, J. Cole has since issued a retraction of his RSVP to this battle, citing his discomfort with going against someone he admires. Drake, on the other hand, has been compared to and contrasted with Kendrick Lamar ever since both began making noise on the blog circuit, so fan investment in his reply is higher than it’s ever been.

While Drake hasn’t made any overt announcements as yet, he’s hinted that he’s working on something, and now, Joe Budden has gotten involved (of course). The podcaster — who has long had his own friction with the Canadian superstar — suggested on his show that both rappers have recorded diss tracks and that they’ll release them sooner than later.

“Actually, I have it on good information that both sides went in the booth and came out,” he said. “What I’m hearin’ about both sides is that it’s nuclear. It’s up-up.” While it could just be another case of Budden blowing smoke (how’s that “girl rap wave is over” pronouncement working out, I wonder), his sources might be onto something since Drake and Kendrick have been at each others’ heads for so long.

Joe Budden Weighs The “Good” & “Bad” From J Cole’s Apology To Kendrick Lamar

Joe Budden broke down J Cole’s apology to Kendrick Lamar from the Dreamville Festival on the latest episode of his eponymous podcast. In doing so, he found “good” and “bad” to take away from the incident. The apology arrived after Cole already dissed Lamar on the outro to his new mixtape, Might Delete Later.

“I’m all for J Cole’s mental health being well,” Budden began while discussing the positives. “I said last pod that anybody who wants to bow out of this thing please feel free to because this is not for the weakhearted. It’s not. It comes with a lot more than 1000 phone calls. If you not ready to move in a different capacity, if you not ready to speak in a different capacity like I said earlier, risk some relationships, if you not ready to see n****s that you thought were friendly turn unfriendly– This is before you get to anybody laying a bar. Your lifestyle has to change.” From there, he listed his credentials in the game. He further described Cole’s decision as a “bold, mature move for hip-hop.”

As for the bad, Budden explained that had he talked to any veterans such as JAY-Z, they would’ve advised against his move. “This is totally unacceptable,” he said of the way Cole handled the entire situation. He added that Cole’s lack of energy on “7 Minute Drill” and subsequent backtracking only made “Like That” sound even harder. Check out Budden’s full comments below.

Vince Staples Explains To Joe Budden Why He Has No Interest In Drake, J. Cole & Kendrick Lamar Beef

Vince Staples is easily one of the best artists in hip-hop, and he is easily one of the most introspective when it comes to the industry at large. Overall, he has the skills to go toe-to-toe with other artists. However, he has stayed away from beef, his entire career. It can be a good quality to have, especially if you don’t want certain fans turning on you. That said, it seems like Staples has an opinion on rap beef that can only be described as both unique and nuanced. Although in simple terms, rap beef is something he doesn’t particularly care for.

We know this thanks to his recent appearance on The Joe Budden Podcast. During his call on the podcast, Vince was asked what he thought about the recent apology from J. Cole. Furthermore, he was asked what he thought about things heating up between Drake and Kendrick Lamar. As Staples explains, these are things that he doesn’t really care about. Instead, he cares more about artists getting their publishing. He says the war between labels and artists is more important than any war amongst peers.

Vince Staples Speaks

Budden began to press Staples on the topic, noting that he was being a bit too mature for his own good. However, Staples stood strong with his opinion. At the end of the day, he really doesn’t care for all of the theatrics. He even things that beef is simply a distraction from what does matter, which is artist unity. It is certainly a mature response, and it goes to show that Staples is thinking critically about these things. That said, his opinion will certainly differ from that of the average fan.

Let us know what you think of what Vince Staples had to say, in the comments section down below. Do you agree that rap beef should be overlooked in favor of more serious issues? What do you make of his comments about publishing? Additionally, stay tuned to HNHH for the latest news and updates from around the music world. Drake Flexes His Billboard Music Awards As Kendrick Lamar Feud Heats Up

Drake shared a picture of the two Billboard Music Awards that he won in 2023 for Top Rap Song and Top Rap Album on his Instagram Story, Tuesday, while fans anticipate a response to Kendrick Lamar amid their ongoing feud. In the post, Drake wrote, “@21savage wipe down,” tagging his collaborator on Her Loss and “Rich Flex,” which notched them the awards.

If the post is a flex on Kendrick Lamar, the iconic rapper likely won’t take much offense. He’s already won six Billboard Music Awards throughout his career. They include Top Rap Album, Top Rap Artist, and more. Drake still has yet to address Lamar with a diss track of his own.

The feud began when Cole referenced Lamar on his collaboration with Drake, “First Person Shooter.” He rapped: “Love when they argue the hardest MC/ Is it K. Dot? Is it Aubrey? Or me?/ We the big three like we started a league, but right now, I feel like Muhammad Ali.” In response, Lamar hopped on Future and Metro Boomin’s “Like That” to proclaim himself to be in a league of his own. “Yeah, get up with me, f–k sneak dissing/ ‘First Person Shooter,’ I hope they came with three switches,” he rapped. After two weeks of silence, Cole finally responded with “7 Minute Drill,” but has since apologized for doing so and revealed he wants to take the track off streaming services.

City Girls’ Internal Beef Proved Short-Lived As JT And Yung Miami Publicly Made Up After Their Online Spat

While it may seem like the whole rap community has beef at the moment, at least one pair of feuding friends seems to have laid their discord to rest. JT and Yung Miami, known collectively as City Girls, fell out and made up over the course of several hours yesterday after a heated back-and-forth on Twitter (never X) was reconciled by something as simple as a phone call. How novel!

The tweets have all been deleted, but The Shade Room proved useful for something, capturing screenshots of the tail end of their exchange. After one last tweet from JT popped up on the timeline arguing that she has reason to be mad, Miami expressed confusion, saying “Jatavia we just got off the phone… now we back to the internet???”

Fortunately, the issue was quickly resolved. “This tweet was BEFORE the phone conversation,” JT explained. “Don’t know why it didn’t go through. Maybe because everyone was blowing up my phone!” In response, Miami declared she was “moving on,” telling her partner-in-rhyme, “I love you.” JT’s reply? “I love you more. I actually love you the most!”

Now THAT’s how you handle a falling out.

While Drake and Kendrick probably won’t be doing this anytime soon, it’s nice to see that some folks still know how to act, even if fans online love to feed into the negativity.

Lil Nas X Shared His Latest ‘Nasarati 2’ Song ‘Right There’ In A Throwback Way

Before TikTok was the go-to app for new music discovery, aspiring rappers once launched their ambitions via SoundCloud, the streaming platform that was credited (or blamed, depending on how you look at it) for an entire new wave of young, unconventional rap stars. That number included Lil Nas X, who despite blowing up after willing his breakout single “Old Town Road” to unprecedented success on TikTok, made his original bid for stardom on SoundCloud with the mixtape Nasarati.

So, with a sequel, Nasarati 2, on the way, it only makes sense that he’s once again using SoundCloud to roll it out (although he’s still making use of TikTok to promote it). He previously shared the first song, “Light Again,” there, and today, he followed up with the second, “Right There.” While Nas’ past output has leaned toward pop rap, this song is more house-influenced, with a four-on-the-floor beat produced by Ojivolta. Lyrically, the song is a club come-on in which Nas reminds his romantic interest that he’s got a busy schedule, limited time, and just one life to live.

Nas took a little break from music after completing his Long Live Montero tour last year, but made his comeback this January with the controversial “J Christ” video. After fending off criticisms of mocking Christianity — after being demeaned nearly his entire career by Christians who objected to his sexuality — he pondered “Where Do We Go Now?” before announcing that he’s coming full-circle with the release of Nasarati 2.
