Without a shadow of a doubt, Common is one of the most technically-sound writers we have in hip-hop history. His wordplay, flows, and tremendous storytelling are all of the skills that separate him from most of the competition. It is part of the reason why fans of the genre as so thrilled to be receiving his new album with producer Pete Rock, The Auditorium Vol. 1, on July 12. The 15-track collaborative effort has four incredible singles out from it right now and it is looking like it will be a top-tier LP for 2024. In the meantime, though, Common is creating more buzz for their album by providing a freestyle over Kendrick Lamar’s “Not Like Us”.
The future rap song of the year has the everyone around the genre in a chokehold right now. It is everywhere and thanks to its viral music video, it is looking like it will be around well after these next five months. With Common bringing his philosophical bars to the West Coast anthem, what could possibly go wrong? Well, it turns out a lot did, unfortunately. Fans did praise the Chicago veteran’s overall performance, but there were also a few skeptics out there.

Most of the complaints centered around the fact that the words felt recited and ones that might belong to another song. Others were even claiming that Common rapped some of these bars at the Roots Picnic from last month. He did in fact hit the stage in Philadelphia and the joints he did play were made with Pete Rock, according to Billboard. Additionally, Com’s flows are pretty off compared to the tempo of the instrumental on “Not Like Us” and the hype man in the back seemed to know all of the adlibs. Maybe this was Common’s intent, especially with the album coming in just four days.

Miami’s mercenary ratchet rap duo City Girls may be defunct, but the show apparently goes on. JT, one-half of City Girls along with partner-in-rhyme Yung Miami, is proceeding as a solo artist, with a new album, City Cinderella, in the works, led by singles like “Sideways” and “Okay.” It’s slated for release on July 19, and just in time to capitalize, she’s revealed the dates for her upcoming City Cinderella tour, which kicks off a month later in Kansas City, Missouri.

On his Instagram Story today (July 9), Rich The Kid shared what is allegedly a screenshot of a text message conversation between Kanye West and himself. In it, West writes, “I am retiring from professional music. Not sure what else to do.”

Jonathan Majors is someone who has been front and center in headlines over the last year or so. Following his recent conviction, Majors has been looking to land his feet back in Hollywood. JT is on a roll, and she will continue to be soon as she presents her second-ever solo tour named after her debut mixtape, City Cinderella. The Miami, Florida rapper is embarking on a month-long trek across the United States with things kicking off on August 20. She will begin her journey in Kansas City, Missouri and cap things off on September 22 in Los Angeles, California. Other markets JT will be tearing up will include Chicago, Washington DC, Philadelphia, New York City, Atlanta, Memphis, and more. As far as ticket sales/information goes, there are few different ways you can purchase your admission.
According to the press release, there will be three opportunities to be exact. “Venue/promoter pre-sale starts on Wednesday, Jul. 10 at 10 a.m. local… Spotify pre-sale launches Thursday, Jul. 11 at 10 a,m. local. The general public can purchase tickets for the tour beginning Friday, July 12 at 10 a.m. local time”. This is another major career milestone for JT for a couple of reasons.
For one, it is her second time hitting the road this year alone. This is coming just months after her solo debut set of dates which saw her perform at club venues only. Secondly, JT is dropping her first-ever project as a lead artist. There was a little bit of speculation as to whether or not this would be an EP with about 10 cuts. GloRilla has certainly been having her moment in 2024. Overall, she is deserving of all of this attention she is getting. Her year got off to a strong start after dropping her first hit with “Yeah Glo!”. The eventual lead single for her mixtape Ehhthang Ehhthang is perhaps the best self-confident banger so far. In addition to that, Big Glo has been receiving an extra bump from Megan Thee Stallion. Their collaboration on “Wanna Be” and being able to perform together on the latter’sHot Girl Summer Tour have all been major pluses. Finally, she has now another song trending with “TGIF”. It could be the summer rap anthem, preaching a hot night out in more ways than one. Like “Yeah Glo!”, GloRilla’s latest record has more memorable lyrics.
The ones that are making waves online right now are, “Crop top with some bikers shorts, I’m showin’ off my moose knuckle (Woo)“. That refers to the outline tight clothes create around the private region of a lady. In addition to the dance “TGIF” has spawned on TikTok, this bar has created a separate trend which Glo calls “Moose Knuckle Monday”.Ice Spice was the first major artist to hop on this wave, showing her’s off in a pink bodysuit. Glo was a close second, dropping a threesome of photos with her wearing tight black tee and beige yoga shorts.
This collage had fellow Memphis rapper NLE Choppa in a trance and it even got him to shoot his shot. According to AllHipHop, the “Camelot” MC has been keeping a close eye on her female contemporary for a little bit. In a recent interview at the BET Awards, Choppa took the time to recognize what GloRilla is doing for their city musically, but also shouted out her curvier appearance. “She’s getting a little thicker. We see you. That a** getting fat now, Glo… She must’ve been on her oats”, he said. “She ‘bout one more picture away before I’m just there with it”. Well, that time was now, and Choppa commented on the post, saying, “this the post”. All Glo could do was laugh about it, so he might have stricken out.
