Kanye West Has Fans In A State Of Blissful Skepticism Following Retirement Announcement

Kanye West recently told Rich The Kid that he was retiring from music. Overall, this announcement came out of nowhere. After all, Kanye is supposedly working on Vultures 2 with Ty Dolla $ign. However, with no release date in sight, Ye’s announcement came across like some sort of admission of defeat. Or perhaps he was simply feeling the frustrations of writer’s block. Whatever the case may be, the news was certainly a shock to the music world.

Just a few moments after Rich The Kid shared Kanye’s texts, the artist revealed the tracklist to his album dropping on July 19th. Near the end of the tracklist there is a song with Kanye called “Plain Jane.” Subsequently, there were murmurs that this could have been some sort of marketing tactic. Furthermore, Consequence came out and revealed that he too will be dropping a Ye collab, very soon. As you can imagine, this elicited a whole lot of skepticism from the internet.

In a series of tweets, fans expressed how they don’t believe the legendary artist. “Rappers don’t retire,” one fan remarked. “No way bros retiring after releasing the worst album in his discography,” said another. Many other comments echoed those exact same sentiments. Others reflected on his legacy. “I honestly am not sure if I even believe this but if it’s true, it’s worth saying that Kanye is one of my favorite artists EVER, despite how washed he has been the past few years,” one fan acknowledged. “His music has had such a great impact on me and is the reason I’m a hip-hop fan today.”

Steve Harvey Catches Heat For Megan Thee Stallion Feet Question On “Celebrity Family Feud”

Steve Harvey has been the host of Family Feud and the Celebrity offshoot for many years now. Overall, he has proven to be the perfect host of the show. There have been numerous viral moments over the years, and it’s a show that continues to attract huge stars. In fact, during the most recent episode, Megan Thee Stallion and her family were guests. It was a highly-anticipated episode and for good reason. After all, fans out there do love themselves some Meg.

Having said that, it does appear as though her episode is starting to get a bit of criticism online. This is due to one of the survey questions that was asked at the top of the show. “Name something you’ve done to your mates feet,” Steve Harvey asked. Megan did not skip a beat as she rang in first and got the number one answer with “rubbed them.” However, fans could not help but think of Meg’s traumatic past in which she was shot in the foot by Tory Lanez. This subsequently led to some heat directed at both Steve Harvey and the show’s producers.

That said, fans were impressed with how she didn’t skip a beat despite the nature of the question. “I love how Megan don’t let bullshit get to her,” a commenter added. In the end, Meg’s family won the showdown.

Drake Loses $300K After Betting On Canada In Copa America Game

The bad breaks continue for Drake. The bumps and bruises the rapper has taken in the music world have been well documented. In the sports world, however, he hasn’t fared much better. The 6 God bet $500K on the Dallas Mavericks in the NBA Finals, and lost. He lost another $500K on the Edmonton Oilers in the Stanley Cup. The Drake curse was already working overtime in 2024, and it’s struck again. The rapper lost another staggering amount of money on July 9.

Drake made his confidence in the Canadian soccer team clear the day before. He posted a betting stub on his Instagram Story, confirming that he’d taken betting odds of 9.6-to-1 that his team would triumph over Argentina in the Copa America game. He put down $300K, with potential winnings amounting to $2.88 million. Drake also couldn’t resist poking fun at Argentina’s star, Lionel Messi. “This could get Messi,” he wrote over his ticket. One would assume he wasn’t in a joking mood after Canada lost to Argentina by a score of 2-0.

Drake Has Lost Multiple Sports Bets In 2024

Drake has been an avid supporter of Canadian soccer for years. He included footage of soccer being played in the music video for “Started from the Bottom” in 2013. More recently, the rapper hyped up the FIFA World Cup 2026, which will be held in his hometown of Toronto. “Canada as a whole, we have an incredible melting pot,” he told FIFA President Gianni Infantino. “But in Toronto, there are just so many different cultural experiences. So when the world comes, it’s going to be beautiful.” He also claimed that there was “no passion like football passion.”

The Drake curse has been difficult for the rapper to shed in recent years. The storybook run that the Toronto Raptors had in 2019 quelled some of the criticisms surrounding Drake, but the severe losses he’s taken on major sporting events in 2024 has brought the “curse” talk back with a vengeance. It doesn’t help that Kendrick Lamar accused the rapper of having gambling problems on his scathing “Meet the Grahams” diss. “You got gamblin’ problems, drinkin’ problems, pill-poppin’ and spendin’ problems,” Lamar raps. “Bad with money.”

Moses Sumney Takes Things To The ‘Gold Coast’ While Announcing Their EP ‘Sophcore’

Moses Sumney is slated to star in the upcoming horror film, MaXXXine. But don’t think for a second that the multidisciplinary has forgotten about their musical background.

Yesterday (July 9), Moses treated supporters to another dose of their forthcoming EP, Sophcore (due out on August 2). Following “Vintage,” their latest single, “Gold Coast,” is a fresh exploration into the genre-blending of dance, ambient, and indie music.

As Moses sings about a sun kissed love, the lyrics video provides a serene backdrop to cover the listener in his blissful emotions. “Met you in Accra / Front/back bar / Dance on you and you dance on me
Yes or no, well, your hips don’t lie / Talk in tongues, testify / Sunrise skin, color of clay / Bump all night, and we sleep all day,” sings Moses.

“Gold Coast” is the initiation of a steamy romance you never expected to wash up on your heart’s shore. In a statement, Moses shared the inspiration behind the upcoming body of work. “’Sophcore’ explores the meeting points between sensuality and intuition,” they said. “Esotericism and populism, Deep feeling and fun. Eminem Unveils Official Tracklist For “The Death Of Slim Shady”

The wait is almost over. Eminem has pulled out all the bells and whistles in the build up to his new album, The Death of Slim Shady. The album’s release date is almost upon us, though, so there’s little left to do then let the music speak for itself. Now we have a tracklist. Eminem dropped the song titles on July 9th, confirming the inclusion of lead singles “Houdini” and “Tobey.” The biggest delight, though, is how long the album is. Em is not skimping out on the content.

The Death of Slim Shady will be 19 tracks long. This makes it longer than Kamikaze and Recovery, and more in line with the deluxe editions of more recent albums. There also seems to be song titles that are direct sequels to Eminem classics, or riffs on earlier song ideas. “Guilty Conscience 2” is obviously an extension of the classic Dr. Dre collab from 1999. Given that Dre is heavily involved with The Death of Slim Shady, it’s safe to assume he will return for a couple verses. “Brand New Dance” also calls back to “Square Dance” from Em’s 2002 classic The Eminem Show.

The Features On Eminem’s Album Are Hidden

There’s strong demonic imagery littered throughout the tracklist. The final trailer for the album sees a woman give birth to a demonic infant, so it’s definitely on brand. The Death of Slim Shady will include songs called “Lucifer” and “Antichrist” back to back on the album, as well as “Bad One.” Other titles suggest a more frenetic, angry energy like “Fuel” or “Road Rage.” This also makes sense, given how Slim is the embodiment of all of Eminem’s worst tendencies. “Houdini” was a clear throwback to the rapper’s heyday, so it should fit in with the rest of the songs here.

The more reflective songs titles come later in the tracklist. “Temporary” suggests a transient angle that falls out of the Slim purview and more into older, contemplative Em. The same goes for the final song on the album, “Somebody Save Me.” It’s worth noting that the only features listed on the album are Big Sean and BabyTron, who appear on the already-released “Tobey.” Based on the collaborations that have been teased in the lead up to The Death of Slim Shady, it looks as though the other features will be hidden until the album drops on July 12.

DeMar DeRozan Addresses Cameo In Kendrick Lamar’s “Not Like Us” Video

DeMar DeRozan is team Kendrick Lamar. It was clear from the moment he appeared on stage during Lamar’s “Pop Out” show. He danced alongside Russell Westbrook while Lamar performed the ubiquitous “Not Like Us” five times in a row. If DeRozan’s allegiance wasn’t clear enough, he appeared in the music video for the song as well. He sided with his Compton brethren, which didn’t take much explaining. That being said, the NBA superstar shed light on his decision during a recent interview.

DeMar DeRozan went on FOX 40 Sports to discuss his involvement in the music video. He made it clear that he has nothing against Drake, but he was always going to align with K. Dot when it came time for a battle. “Love Drake, always can play him,” he told the reporter. When it came to Kendrick Lamar, though, there was a different level of loyalty. “Kendrick been a friend of mine. Damn near family,” DeRozan stated. “We both from the same city. Grew up damn near in the same neighborhood, it’s always been there.”

DeMar DeRozan Considers Kendrick Lamar To Be Family

DeRozan also conceded that the closeness of his friendship with Lamar may not have been common knowledge prior to the battle. “It hasn’t always been publicized,” he noted. “But that’s basically family.” DeMar DeRozan occupies an even more interesting role in the Drake vs. Kendrick Lamar battle than it initially seems. He was drafted by the Toronto Raptors and spent a decade playing for the team that Drake is a global ambassador for. The All-Star even appeared in comedy sketch with Drake (and Will Ferrell) during the 2016 ESPYS.

The Toronto connection, coupled with the Compton origins, made DeMar DeRozan a prime point of reference for Kendrick Lamar during the battle. Consequently, the rapper mentions DeRozan on the second verse of “Not Like Us.” “I’m glad DeRoz’ came home, y’all didn’t deserve him neither,” K. Dot raps. “From Alondra down to Central, n**ga better not speak on Serena.” While it’s hard to imagine a friendship between Drake and DeRozan anytime soon, at least the latter showed love during his interview.

Andre 3000 Claims Pimp C Hated His “Int’l Players Anthem” Verse

Andre 3000 has too many classic verses to count. That being said, his turn on “Int’l Players Anthem” might be one of his most celebrated. It’s quotable, eccentric, and it all plays out before the drums to the main instrumental kick in. It distinguishes Andre’s verse from the other rappers on the song, aka Big Boi and UGK. As beloved as the verse and the song is today, though, Pimp C was not happy when he first heard it. The things that make it unique are the very things that rubbed the UGK rapper the wrong way.

Andre 3000 shared this anecdote during his recent appearance on The Shop. He recounted the making of the song, and his unorthodox choice to remove the drums from his verse. He sent the verse back with just the sample, and Pimp C was livid. “Pimp was so mad at me,” Andre 3000 recalled. “Because they sent the beat and I wrote my verse, put my words down and I took the beat out for me to rap.” Pimp C wasn’t disappointed with the bars, but he felt like the song had been changed without his permission. “Pimp was like, ‘Fuck this muthaf*cka, man! This n**ga done goddamn took my beat out,” Andre said. “Who the f*ck he think he is?!’ He was really mad at the choice that I had made to take the beat [out].”

Andre 3000 Claimed Pimp C Disliked The Beat Change

Fortunately, cooler heads prevailed. Andre 3000 told The Shop hosts that others made the case for keeping the verse the way it is. “I don’t know if it was Bun [B] or somebody,” the rapper called. “They were like, ‘Nah, but you don’t understand, when that beat drop, though, it sets it off.’ So it’s almost like a set-up. So it worked, and once he got that, he was like, ‘Okay, okay.’” The gamble paid off. “Int’l Players Anthem” peaked at number 70 on the Billboard Hot 100. It was UGK’s first and only entry on the charts, and remains their most successful single.

While The Shop episode marks the first time Andre 3000 has shared the Pimp C story, a similar anecdote was shared by A&R Jeff Sledge during a 2016 appearance on the A Waste of Time podcast. The change in Sledge’s version was that it was him, not Bun B, who urged Pimp C to keep Andre’s verse without the beat. “Let’s rock it like that,” the A&R recalls saying. “Because when Andre doing acapella and then when the beat drops, that’s when your verse drops. And then your verse is gonna lift the record up because now the beat is rocking and your verse is kicking.” Whoever made the call, we’re thankful.

DJ Quik Admits He Cried During Kendrick Lamar’s “Pop Out” Show

DJ Quik is a Hall of Fame artist. He’s a G-funk pioneer and a production wizard. He’s also a proud Los Angeles native. Quik was absolutely blown away by Kendrick Lamar’s “Pop Out” concert on Juneteenth, despite not being present. He praised K. Dot during a recent interview with AllHipHop. He also admitted, though, that watching the “Pop Out” show was a bittersweet experience. So bittersweet, in fact, that he claims that he actually cried while it was happening.

DJ Quik’s absence was not by design. The rapper would have attended, but he was on tour with fellow West Coast stars Problem and Snoop Dogg. The trio tried to chart a flight back to LA to attend, but Quik said that it proved to be a logistical nightmare. “Snoop tried to fly us back for the Pop Out,” he told the outlet. “He tried to charter a jet and it didn’t work out logistically because we would have missed our show… But we sat there steaming. I was steaming.” The reason Quick was steaming was two-fold. One, he was missing the “Pop Out” show. Two, and perhaps most ironically, he was stranded in Canada, the home of Kendrick’s enemy: Drake.

DJ Quik Was Forced To Watch The Show In Canada

These two things in tandem proved to be too much for DJ Quik. He shed tears of happiness over what Lamar did, but also tears of sadness given his circumstances. “I was knee deep in Canada when all that unity happened,” he noted. “I cried myself to sleep that night in the dumb-a*s Hilton hotel looking at you guys… started hating. What did I tell you?” Quik wasn’t the only who regretted missing the show, though. Snoop Dogg, who appeared on Lamar’s classic album To Pimp a Butterfly, raved about the concert on social media.

“Sending a big shout out to K. Dot and all the homies from the West that stood together unified,” he told his followers. The IG video was recorded in the same Canada hotel that a bereft DJ Quik fell asleep in the day prior. Still, Snoop kept it positive. “That was beautiful,” he asserted. “That was fun to watch. Beautiful to see all my peoples come together. And K. Dot – you are the King of the West.” A sentiment that DJ Quik would likely agree with.

André 3000 And Sexyy Red Confess To Running Off Of ‘Hater Fuel’ In A Teaser Clip Of ‘The Shop’

The next episode of LeBron James‘ unscripted show, The Shop, is nearly here. Each episode sets to match unlikely pairs for a deeply introspective chat about life, business, and more. For the forthcoming video, the seemingly unlikely duo is André 3000 and Sexyy Red.

However, in the teaser clip of the episode shared online today (July 9), André 3000 and Sexyy Red revealed they have a lot more in common than others may think. Outside of the obvious (being rappers), both confessed to being motivated by negative remarks and public ridicule.

“Like, they still don’t believe in me,” said Sexyy Red. “So, I just be like, ‘Imma just show you I am.’ Like he said, ‘They don’t understand.’ We really came from nothing, and then we be making a big achievements. That’s something for us. But they just be like, ‘You ain’t doing nothing.’”

“Use it for fuel,” added André. “Hater fuel is the best sh*t man. It’s free energy.”

“I like when they talk about me,” chimed Sexyy.

André echoed Sexyy’s response. “That make me go, it makes me go in. I love when someone doubt you.”

“Because now I’m finna show you something,” closed Sexyy.

The full episode is scheduled to be shared to The Shop’s official YouTube channel on July 11. Find more information here.
