Both Meek and Ross recently spoke with Zane Lowe at Apple Music 1 about the release. Meek explained that the two get “serious” when working together. “When we get in the studio, that sh*tt gets serious. Ross getting into serious mode,” Meek said at the time. “He trying to knock that shit out and get to work. And you know me, he giving me that gas. I’m going to run jumping out that window a hundred miles an hour. But we joke all the time. You’re going to see a lot of that throughout the content and all that. And it’s organic too, Zane. We came up with this idea and we got around each other, built, vibed out and then got in the studio. It don’t matter where we’re recording at, we could be in the closet, Rose going to get this shit done.”

Doja Cat Labels “Say So” A “Cash Grab” During “Scarlet Tour” Performance

Doja Cat labeled her hit song, “Say So,” a “cash grab” during a recent performance in Denver, Colorado, on The Scarlet Tour. While dancing to the chorus, she remarked “C’mon cash grab,” to the audience as they sang along. The clip comes after Doja previously called her 2019 album, Hot Pink, on which the single is featured, as well as her 2021 effort, Planet Her, “cash grabs.”

Taking to Twitter, earlier this year, she wrote: “Planet her and hot pink were cash-grabs and yall fell for it.” In a follow-up post, she added: “Now i can go disappear somewhere and touch grass with my loved ones on an island while yall weep for mediocre pop.”

If she did release it as a “cash grab,” Doja Cat certainly succeeded with the track, “Say So.” The Recording Academy honored it with nominations in two categories at the 63rd Annual Grammy Awards for both Record of the Year and Best Pop Solo Performance. The song peaked at No. 1 on the US Billboard Hot 100. The RIAA has certified it six times platinum in the U.S. Check out Doja’s latest antics on The Scarlet Tour below.

Elliott Wilson discussed the early stages of his career as a music journalist, the current media climate, Roc Nation Brunches, and more during his latest appearance on N.O.R.E. and DJ EFN’s podcast, Drink Champs. He was joined on the show by rapper Gorilla Nems.

For starters, Wilson discussed his inspiration for seeking a career in music journalism. “Run-DMC was the inspiration,” he said. “I read The Source. And they had the music editor at The Source, Reginald C. Dennis. I wanted to be that guy. He gets all the albums before them s**ts come out, he reviews them, he controls the mics. That’s what I wanted. I wanted to control the mics.”

He also labeled Tyler “a great kid,” who “loves hip-hop.” Of the brunch as a whole, Wilson added: “The brunch was great for us because it helped us bond with Tyler to get that interview. Babyface too … So I feel like that was a major networking thing that led to a good podcast after that. So, shoutout to the brunch.” Check out the full interview on Drink Champs featuring Elliott Wilson and Gorilla Nems below.

Doja Cat Doubled Down On Her ‘Cash Grab’ Comments While Performing ‘Say So’ During A Recent ‘The Scarlet Tour’ Stop

Despite the massive social media purging Doja Cat faced online, the “Attention” rapper’s career continues to thrive. Yesterday (November 10), Doja received multiple Grammy nominations (Best Melodic Rap Performance, Best Rap Song, and Best Pop Solo Performance). Her Scarlet album has staying power on the music charts. Plus, her supporting tour with Ice Spice and Doechii is receiving rave reviews, including from Uproxx’s own Aaron Williams.

You were wrong if you thought Doja would walk back any of her past remarks. Yesterday, during The Scarlet Tour’s stop in Denver, Colorado, she doubled down on one. “C’mon cash grab,” yelled Doja to the Ball Arena crowd as they sang along to her song “Say So.”

In a series of now-deleted posts shared on her official X (formerly Twitter) page in May, Doja confessed that she wasn’t proud of some of her past bodies of work. “‘Planet Her’ and ‘Hot Pink’ were cash-grabs, and y’all fell for it. Now, I can go disappear somewhere and touch grass with my loved ones on an island while y’all weep for mediocre pop,” penned the rapper.

Although those projects led her to achieve superstar status and a Grammy Award, Doja promised to stay away from pop and focus on showcasing her rap abilities. Initial supporters weren’t pleased by her statements, but ultimately it paid off.

Speaking with Zane Lowe at Apple Music 1 about the release, Ross described it as representative of “the culture.” “It’s too good to be true and man, it just feel good, and it was too easy,” he said. “We set it off. We both know what our true gifts are, our talents are when it comes to production. So when it came to this vibe, it was really simple. It didn’t take a lot of time, but we brought the best out of each other. This was just personal. This was just me and Meek and that was just us in the studio. It wasn’t a lot of people, just the team, the private team. Meek, his team, my team, Sam Sneak, Brion, the producers, and we kept it uncut. We went straight to the vein with it. “

Lil Yachty Claims Hip Hop’s In A “Terrible Place,” Thinks Artists Play It Too Safe

During a recent event, Lil Yachty shared his thoughts on the current state of hip hop, revealing that he thinks it’s in a “terrible place.” He spoke on a panel at Rolling Stone’s Musicians on Musicians event in Brooklyn this weekend, alongside Tierra Whack and Delisa Shannon. According to him, the genre’s at such a low point because artists are afraid to take risks now, resulting in far too much repetition. For this reason, he thinks hip hop as a whole is simply boring these days.

“Hip-hop is in a terrible place,” he began. “The state of hip-hop right now is a lot of imitation. It’s a lot of quick, low-quality music being put out. It’s a lot less risk-taking, it’s a lot less originality… People are too safe now. Everyone is so safe. I rather take the risk than take the L.”

Lil Yachty On The Current State Of Hip Hop

This wasn’t the only time Lil Yachty discussed the current state of hip hop, however. During a recent episode of his A Safe Place podcast, he asked for J. Cole’s take on it. J. Cole had a similar, though slightly less negative, view of the genre nowadays. “My favorite era is what I grew up on,” he explained. “I can’t put nothing past how I feel and how I felt outside of my own… you know what I mean?”

“I try to push myself to that, but bro, I’m grown, I was listening to that when I was a kid,” he continued. “Now it’s new kids that got their new favorites. I wouldn’t feel comfortable being like, ‘Hell yeah, that s**t was in a better space!’ Because I don’t feel negatively about this space. I feel like this space is clearing the way for the next space, and the next space.” What do you think of Lil Yachty’s take on the current state of hip hop? Do you agree with him or not? Fabolous Unimpressed By Mural Of Him, Biggie, Jay-Z, And More

A new clip of a man roasting a Brooklyn mural depicting various notable hip hop artists has gone viral. In the clip, the man highlights portraits of Jay-Z, Biggie, and more, mocking them for being unrealistic. Another artist depicted in the mural is Fabolous, but the man claims the portrayal doesn’t do him any justice. “Is this really supposed to be Fabolous?” he asks, suggesting that the painting could be any number of people, including Soulja Boy.

As the clip continues to make its rounds, Fabolous chimed in earlier this week, seeming to agree with the commentary. He weighed in in the comments section of the clip, claiming that the whole thing ought to be destroyed. “Nah what block is this?” he wrote alongside a laughing emoji. “We gotta knock this wall down.”

Fabolous Roasts Unrealistic Brooklyn Mural

Several fans also replied to Fabolous’ comment, poking more fun at the mural. This isn’t the only viral conversation the artist’s chimed into as of late, however. During an interview last week, he spoke on DJ Envy’s real estate scam allegations, claiming that he himself nearly invested. He recalled a phone call with the DJ, who sold it to him as a great opportunity to make some serious cash. According to him, he wasn’t all too convinced, and he never wound up investing.

“He was tellin’ me about some real estate stuff,” he began. “I’m just a guy that gotta see things through a little bit more. I don’t just get hyped at … y’know, it be a lotta ‘get money’ — I don’t want to call it a scam or a scheme — but a lotta ‘get money’ ideas that come to you, so I just gotta see ’em through. So even with that phone call, I was like, ‘Aight,’ but I wasn’t like, ‘Sign me up, [who] do I give my money to?’ Y’know what I mean, and I didn’t really hear back from [him].” What do you think of Fabolous’ reaction to the mural of him, Jay-Z, and Biggie? Rihanna Debuts New Hair Color During Subdued Dinner In Hollywood

Rihanna was recently spotted sporting a new hairdo – long and straight in a noticeably lighter shade of brown. The new look was caught by photographers as Rihanna stepped out for dinner with friends in Hollywood. The Barbadian musical icon paired her new do with a camel coat, patterned jeans, and a simply grey hoodie. With an entourage in tow, Rihanna was seen dining at San Vincente Bungalows. We’re not permitted to post the images directly on HotNewHipHop, but if you’d like to see them, you can do so by clicking the Via link below.

However, Rihanna reportedly seemed ill at ease and was not seen overall enjoying herself. That may be due to what happened the day before, with longtime partner A$AP Rocky in court on weapons charges. In court, Rocky heard testimony from A$AP Relli about how the former threatened to kill him before firing four shots at him in 2021. Furthermore, Relli also claimed to be suffering from PTSD. If convicted, Rocky could face up to eight years in prison. He is currently free on a $500,000 bond and will return to court next week.

Is Rihanna Making A Musical Return?

Rihanna

Meanwhile, there have been rumors circulating around whether Rihanna will be making a return to music after a half-decade hiatus. Having played the Super Bowl earlier this year, sources told multiple outlets that the superstar has been considering a world tour for 2024/25. Furthermore, she has also created two albums worth of music during her time away from the industry. If a tour does happen, it would be the next big blockbuster event after a 2023 that’s seen Beyoncé, Drake, and Taylor Swift travel the world on tours of their own.

However, other reporting has disputed the claims of a tour. The Mirror reported last month that reports that Rihanna had signed at $39 million deal with Live Nation were “bogus” and that no tour dates had been set or agreed upon. Furthermore, it’s likely that the outcome of Rocky’s legal issues will also play a factor in determining whether Rihanna makes her return. All of this remains a developing story and we’ll keep you updated on any breaking stories.
